One of my first jobs was in a record store as a kid. And one of my first tasks in the store was to box up all the vinyl records and get the shelves ready to welcome these new-fangled, futuristic things called CDs. It’s hard to believe that CDs are now yesterday’s news, and though they’re still in stores, so many of us are listening to digital music, or using cloud streaming services like Spotify or Pandora to rock out. I have sooo many CDs in storage, so I started thinking about fun projects you could make with those old jewel cases. In the Getting Rid of Tech Clutter episode of Smart, Simple, Solved, I show you all kinds of ways to get rid of the old gadgets that are taking up space in your closets and drawers, and offer a few other tips for upcycling those old cases and CDs. This project takes seconds — you could have a nifty planter in the time it takes to listen to “Freebird.”
Note: This planter is adorable, and I love that you can see through it. It will have some holes in it though, so make sure you’ve got it in a large enough saucer to catch dirt and water, or use it outside.
