How to Make Sparkly Swizzle Sticks in 5 Minutes or Less

Around the holidays, is there anything you love more than an easy how-to? These sparkly swizzle sticks were so easy and added such a punch to our holiday bar decor, that I’m now thinking of sparkling up every pencil, pen, and eyeliner I own in the hopes that mundane tasks will become more festive.

In any case, try these for your next gathering. They’ll take 5 minutes to make and they’ll have your guests oohing and ahhing for the whole evening.

We’ve teamed up with our friends over at’s Design Happens to throw a holiday party, and you’re invited! Follow along as we craft the party decor, set the holiday table and cook up the menu. Along the way, you’ll get the step-by-step instructions and tips to throw a great party in your home. Catch up on all the posts here.

First, you’ll want to cut your dowel rods. I put them in the highball glasses we were planning on using and then measured about 3 inches above the rim to leave plenty of room for the tinsel. To cut the rods, I just used a wire cutter. You could wear a glove or put a towel over your hand for safety.

Next, cut  your wire garland into 4″ pieces.

The wire-based garland makes this project soooo simple. All that’s left is to make a little dot with your hot glue gun about 212″ from the top of the dowel rod. This will keep the tinsel from shifting down when handled.

After that, just wrap the tinsel around the stick and be sure to tuck down the end so the sharp part of the wire isn’t exposed.

Dress up your cocktails and enjoy! The signature cocktail for our holiday party was the Pleasant Evening. Check out the cocktail recipe on HGTV’s Design Happens.
