Freedom Phones: 4th of July Earbuds

4th of July earbuds!

Grab your sparklers and get ready for the fireworks — Fourth of July is around the corner! I decided to get festive by wrapping my headphones with red, white and blue embroidery thread, so I can enjoy my tunes and be patriotic at the same time. Ever the multi-tasker. This is a ridiculously easy DIY project to do — you could have the whole thing done in less time thank it takes for Will Smith to save the planet in Independence Day, and you have the added bonus of creating a tangle-free pair of headphones in the process (not to mention how adorable they are — people are stopping me left and right to compliment them!).

Step 1

 Open GalleryGather your materials

Gather all your materials. You can choose any colors you like, but of course here, we’re going 4th of July themed!

Step 2

Open GalleryTie your thread on to the earbudKnot your first color just under the earbud.

Step 3

Open GalleryStart wrappingYo yo, it’s time to start (w)rapping. Keep the thread nice and tight as you go.

Step 4

Open GalleryStart your next color when readyWhen you’re ready to move on to the next color, cut the thread, and knot the next color just underneath it. Make sure your first color has a little bit of thread hanging off.

Step 5

Open GalleryWrap the excess of color 1 under color 2Now as you continue to wrap the cord with the next color, make sure you wrap that little bit of leftover thread underneath. That will ensure it doesn’t unravel.

Step 6

Open GalleryFinish off both earbuds down to the YKeep going until you reach the “Y” of the headphones, then knot the last color to keep it in place. Then move on to the next earbud and repeat!

Step 7

 Open GalleryStart from the bottom...

Now start at the bottom and work your way up to the “Y” from there. You can leave the Y uncovered as we did here (it works with our red, WHITE and blue theme) or you could wrap the Y in a color to cover it up.

Step 8

 Open GalleryDone!Baby, you’re a firework.
