How to Make a Heart Wreath

Make a heart-shaped wreath for Valentine's Day home decor.
The season of joy and merriment is quickly transitioning into the season of love, but before packing away all of those Christmas decorations, I decided to create a pretty little pine wreath that magically pairs the best of the cozy winter season with the quickly approaching Valentine’s Day holiday.

The materials for this pretty wreath are easy to come by: a single wire hanger (check your own closets before heading to the dollar store) and a strand of faux garland from your holiday decor (if you don’t have one, you can likely still find one at the craft store – just check the 75% off clearance section!).

Step 1

Open GalleryUse a hanger as a wreath base.I love an easy little project, and this fits the bill. You have a metal hanger laying around, right? Any will do.

Step 2

Open GalleryBend the wire hanger into a heart shape to form your wreath base.Bend the hanger. Pull the straight wire downward to create a “V” and then bend the hook inward, so that the hanger begins to take a heart shape. You might be tempted to unwind the wire to have more control or a bigger heart, but really, I think the manufacturer’s tightly wound wire helps to keep the whole wreath rigid.

Step 3

Open GalleryWind pine garland around the outside of the hanger.Wrap a piece of pine garland around the outer edge of the heart. The garland I used has wire running through the main strand, as well as through each offshoot. Because it was very bendy and maleable, I wrapped several individual offshoots around the hanger wire to secure it in place and disguise the wire.

If your garland does not have wire throughout, consider using a fine florist wire to attach the decoration to the heart.

Step 4

Open GalleryTrim the excess length of garland once your hanger is surrounded. When the heart is completely surrounded, you may have a long tail of garland trailing behind. Trim it off with the wire cutters. Bend the pine offshoots to flatter the intended shape of the wreath.

Step 5

Open GalleryIntertwine decorations into the heart wreath. I chose a wintery tallow berry branch.Add decorations. I chose to accent with tallow berry branches for a contrast in color.
