DIY 3D Paper Heart Valentine

DIY 3D Paper Heart ValentineThis is one DIY Valentine that pops! As in, it pops right off the paper. I love paper folding, so I wanted to try making a three dimensional Valentine’s Day card for my sweetie. I love simple Valentine’s Day cards, so I decided not to add any further decorations, allowing the pop-up heart to be the focal point. And yes, obviously, this particular card isn’t exactly suited to be put in a flat envelope – how sad would a smushed heart be?

Folding the heart so it pops may take a few practice runs, but once you’ve mastered it, it’s a cinch. While I love these pop-up hearts on a sweet card, I also think they’d be adorable as a sweet surprise on Valentine’s Day – on your sweetie’s mirror, a few on the fridge, maybe even on the steering wheel! Anyplace you want to add a little pop of love…

Step 1

Step 2

Open GalleryDIY 3D Paper Heart ValentineI made a heart template out of card stock to make it easier on myself. The top of the heart is a little differently shaped – that’s to account for how the heart will look after you fold it. Trace a few hearts with a pencil onto your colored paper.

Step 4

Step 5

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

Open GalleryDIY 3D Paper Heart ValentineOnce your pop-up heart is all set, grab a piece of card stock. I took an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper and cut it in half, then folded each 8.5 x 5.5 inch piece in half to make two plain cards.

Step 11

Step 12
