When I travel to a new city or country, I buy a map from that area to remind me of my adventure (my favorite find so far is a delicate Gloucestershire map from 1833). Collecting maps as memories is a way to satisfy wanderlust when I’m not traveling. However, my map collection of varying sizes and colors started stacking up at home unused and unexplored. As I sat in my room suffering from restless heart syndrome, I discovered a cure — at least a cure until the the next adventure— maps, globes and other travel-inspired décor adorning my walls and my home. Discover how you can bring travel into your home from classic maps to easy-to-make DIY weekend projects.
The Classic Map
Vintage framed maps hanging on the wall are timely and bring a sense of adventure to any room.
These spheres can be whimsical and fun or classy and elegant, depending on their style and the space.
This trend may be over-the-top, but if it’s done right, murals can beautifully enhance a space. I mean, look at that little aviator’s room!
