It’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day! “Um, what?” you might say, but you should rephrase that question to “Arrrr??!” Yes, Talk Like a Pirate Day is a thing, and it’s kind of fun. I mean, who doesn’t want to hear their boss call a meeting to order with a hearty “Ahoy, matey!”? I know I do. (And if you’re reading this, boss, that’s a not-so-subtle hint.) So in celebration of this day, let’s learn how to make a pirate costume.

The popularity of pirate day has led many organizations to jump on the bandwagon … er, the ship. So how can you get involved? First, learn how to talk like a pirate. Next, visit the Talk Like a Pirate Day charity site that helps the Childhood Cancer Support organization. Then, head on over to Krispy Kreme — they’re giving away one free donut to customers who talk like a pirate and, better yet, a free dozen doughnuts if you dress like a pirate!

But if you don’t have a pirate costume and you’ve got a couple hours, start on DIYNetwork.com and make your own. Our pirate costume instructions are for a child but could easily be adapted for an adult pirate, too. If you find today that you or your child has a knack for talking like a pirate, this is a great costume idea for Halloween, too. Arrrr!
