Get Inspired for Your Next Picnic Party!

picnic birthday party

A few weeks ago, this cutie pie turned two years old, and to celebrate his birthday we gathered together for an old-fashioned picnic party. This wasn’t just any backyard bash — thoughtful details and DIY inspiration made my sweet nephew’s soiree extra special.

Typically you would think of a picnic party as a summertime fling, but with some color scheme changes, you could make this theme work for any season or occasion. Here are a few of my favorite ideas from the party.

I loved the inviting door decor with layers of gingham, seersucker and burlap. The boyish color scheme included different shades of blue, white and khaki.

This adorable garland was made by tying strips of fabric and ribbon onto twine. Easy enough.

picnic party drinks

A radio flyer wagon was the perfect vessel for grab-and-go drinks.

It doesn’t get any better than a pie and ice cream station. (For an adult-only version and more tips, check out Hannah’s post on hosting a tipsy ice cream social.)

And how cool is this DIY picture display made out of a wood pallet?

Now that you’ve seen a few of my picnic favorites, I hope you’re inspired to throw a backyard-inspired party while the weather is still nice. I bet you’ll also love the ideas from this backyard barbecue wedding shower — they’d work for any outdoor celebration, and the farmers’ market centerpiece is perfect for fall!

Yeah, it's really easy to do. You just wrap ribbon and twine around the individual slats and use cloths pins to attach pictures or whatever you want to display.
