I never gave much thought to personalized (and handmade!) wedding gifts until I received them myself.
In addition to all of the goodies that we registered for to supplement our home and new life together, we were surprised with many personal gifts, the kind of gifts you could never ask for ranging from custom workbench storage to turned bowls and hand-drawn illustrations.
While some gifts were handmade, others were ordered for us specially through vendors who live for custom requests and love the opportunity to make something unique. I mean, check out this cutting board we were given! My cousin ordered it from Richwood Creations and sent the artist our actual wedding invitation so that they could duplicate the peony illustration on our gift!
It melted my heart, and then got me thinking … if you’re especially handy with a wood burning tool, you could even try something to the same effect yourself.
I’ve given some very impersonal gifts in the past, and obviously there’s something to be said in the Miss Manners book of wedding etiquette about buying the couple the gifts they ask for, but from my experience, the thoughtful gifts that we received stand out in my mind the most, and I love them all.
