Last Toolsday we posted a photo of what looked like a wire basket, but it wasn’t a wire basket, it was something else. Some people thought it was a type of animal cage, others thought it was used to protect plants from birds, and someone even guessed it was Marge Simpson’s hair net. But, a good many of you knew it was a Victorian-era hoop skirt bustle. They were commonly used in the late 1800s to provide Victorian-era big booty.
