Wine Cork Wreath Painted With Metallics and Glitter

painted wine cork wreath

I love to think of new ways to use wine corks in a crafty way. Over the summer, I spray painted some wine corks gold, and I just loved the sculptural quality of the corks. So when it was time to make a wreath for the holidays, I knew I wanted to use metallic spray paints and corks.

Here are the materials I used:

• Krylon metallic spray paint in Chrome, Copper and Gold
• Krylon glitter blast paint in Lucky Green and Cherry Bomb
• Spray paint nozzle attachment*
• Drop cloth
• Wine corks
• Flat board wreath form
• Glue gun
• Wire edged ribbon

* This inexpensive attachment evenly sprays paint and can be reused for other projects.

And here’s how I made it:

1. Divide wine corks into equal batches, one batch for each paint color you are using. Place the spray paint nozzle attachment on a paint can. Spray one batch of corks. Repeat for each color of paint you are using. The metallic paints will adhere well and will only need a few coats on each side. However, plan for four coats or more (each side) for the glitter blast paint.

2. Once the corks are dry to the touch (about 30 minutes), turn them and cover the remaining unpainted portions. Let corks dry completely overnight.

3. Using a glue gun, affix corks, circular ends down, to the wreath form. For a more random look, you can also apply the corks to each other on the outside of the wreath form.

4. Create a bow from wire ribbon in a coordinating fabric. Glue the bow to the corks. Use another piece of the ribbon to hang the wreath.
