If I had a bigger backyard, you know I’d be building my 4-year old Bernese Mountain Dog a custom dog house. If it wasn’t one of these sleek, modern numbers that are shown in this gallery on DIY Network, It’d definitely be a dog house designed to match the main house – the perfect balance of being cute and corny. I’d start by following these instructions, and could then put to use some of my leftover matching gray vinyl siding, a few inexpensive shingles, a dog bed made using outdoor fabric, and maybe a small flagstone patio for kicks. It would be a dog’s dream pad.
If you’re thinking about building your own Fido a camp of his own, chances are that you’ll appreciate some of these ideas. Each one is completely different from the next, and it’s really fun to see all of the great designs in one place. Sneak peek alert, this is one of my favorites:

This modern dog house strikes a chord in the way that it embraces a garden; one of my favorite chicken coops boats the same organic element, a perfect space for summertime herbs in a backyard or a big picture window. My dog wouldn’t fit in this particular house (he’s 100 lbs.), but I can see it being a really great accent for a contemporarily designed home. So unique!
I love this one. The little deck? The human accessibility for cleaning? The killer waterfall edge? Lucky dog.
I like this last one a lot because the exterior treatment is something that you could install over any number of basic dog house designs. It adds a lot of detail, and I love the use of color to make a statement. Added bonus? Two entries/exits makes for a comfortable space for man’s best friend.

Ha! Barb, I love that one.
I like the last shown dog house(Green,White and Wood Color). Should have a easy dog access door, so fido can get in and out.
