blog cabin 2014

You might have noticed all of the action on the Cabin Cam the past few days. That’s because DIY Network host Anitra Mecadon is at Blog Cabin 2014 shooting her hit show Mega Dens. She’s taking a break this week to answer some of your questions during a G+ Hangout.

Join us tomorrow April 23, 2014 at 3 p.m. ET while we chat live at Blog Cabin 2014 with Anitra and Chris Grundy. If you’ve got a question for Anitra or Chris, ask in the comments below and it might get answered.

In case you missed last week’s G+ chat with Jason Cameron and Chris Grundy, watch it here.

  1. What areas are Anitra and Mega Dens working on?

Gene on April 22, 2014 at 3:56 pm
    • Almost certainly the media room as usual for the BC. ^_^

AnniesOwn on April 24, 2014 at 2:25 pm
    • She said yesterday in the G+ Hangout they have the media room and the office. The private retreat/reading room upstairs could have also been a possible option for them.

  2. Anitra,

What impact did the BLOOGERS selection of TIGER STRAND BAMBOO FLOORING have on the design of the spaces you were assigned? Any specific examples would help.

What selection made by the BLOOGERS vote had the single biggest impact on the design of the space you were assigned?

MAOW on April 22, 2014 at 4:00 pm
  3. it would be easier to ask questions if we knew which Spaces? She could possibly be working on the Family Room, Office, and or Upstairs private retreat.

  4. As you know the Citrus industry is a vert important part of the History of Polk County. The original home is a 1920's historic bungalow originally built for the first elected president of the Citrus Growers Association.
    1) How did the fact that the original bungalow is a historic building impact the design in your area of the home?
    2) Were you able to incorporate original or reproduction Citrus related advertising, e.g. Orange/Citrus Crate Labels and artwork from the period?

    • Very good question

  5. Anitra,
Hi! Will you be putting a bar and/or wet bar in the media room and what size TV will we have?

Boo on April 22, 2014 at 4:52 pm
    • I'm hoping for A projection TV in the family room over the fire place, there are only 2 windows in that room that would need blackout shades.

Gene on April 22, 2014 at 5:49 pm
    • Is the fireplace in the family room going to be wood or gas burning

Gene on April 22, 2014 at 6:20 pm
    • Likely gas like the fire pit.
      So many bloggers complained about wood burning, they must not be aware of cat converters and soot re-burners. Your diesel pickup or car, 'especially' 2007 and newer have them, some of the older ones have them too. javascript:insertSmileyReply("B)");

    • I haven't heard anyone say yet that it will be a gas fire pit. It most likely will be but I'm still hoping for wood burning, a gas fire is so boring to sit around and who wants to toast Marshmallows over that :(
THINK WOOD BURNING FIRE PIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Gene on April 26, 2014 at 1:07 pm
    • Think stinky smoke and wood particulate matter that gets in your lungs and the lungs of all those folks who live near you. Wood burning is not green nor is it environmentally friendly.

loving grandma on April 27, 2014 at 9:29 am
    • Wood as it happens is very green. With catalytic converters and re-burners it does less harm than GAS whether LP or Natural through depletion of a natural source.

Each year in Florida it is a good idea to prune your oaks and pines. Not to mention citrus trees to allow storm winds a passage. Would you have your arborist haul this wonderful source of heat as well as many other uses to the landfill ?

It will take many years in the landfill for this wasted wood to decompose while it fills the water table with various chemicals and the air with methane. Or perhaps he will sell that same wood to your neighbors for home heat.

Do you grill out? If you use coals or compressed chips your cooking with wood. Maybe we should tell those in the cold north who only have wood to heat their homes and cook meals to go without.

  6. Thanks for the update! I hope to learn a lot tomorrow from Anitra and Chris, but I don't have any questions at this time.

  7. I have got to say that I want everything that is in the second round of choices for comforts. A lot of hard decisions, but it is so fun. I like everyone else is wondering what areas you will be working on? There are so many areas that you could touch and make look great. Can't wait to see what you do.

I noticed that they are starting to get the front steps ready to set up and poured. I also noticed a lot of red brick pavers. Is the patio going to be this color and made out of these. I also noticed a couple of trailers filled with stuff down by the lake. Is this stuff for the dock that is going to be built?

I hope that you all are enjoying a great week and the beautiful weather. Be safe and God Bless.

  8. More of a comment, but do those two look like they're having too much fun or what?!

DBCoop on April 22, 2014 at 7:49 pm
    • Yes they do look like they are having too much fun.

Is it just me or does Grundy (Dressed in YELLOW w/BIG GLASSES) look like a MINION from the movie DESPICABLE ME?:p Those MINIONS make me laugh as much as Grundy does.

  9. Is that a custom piece of art for the BC? Can't wait to see more!

Downonthefarm on April 22, 2014 at 8:18 pm
    • Yes, that is the custom piece created for BC 2013.

MAOW on April 22, 2014 at 8:26 pm
  10. who wants to see Grundy in the kiddy pool as mentioned in the previous G + Hangout

Gene on April 22, 2014 at 8:19 pm
    • I'd rather see Grundy in a Hot Tub built into the Patio but yes, a kiddy pool would be funny. :)

MAOW on April 22, 2014 at 8:30 pm
    • So long as Grundy has the yellow rain gear on
