We’re Giving Away a MasterCraft NXT 20 Wakeboard Boat!

boat dock

Happy Friday!

I noticed in the comments on yesterday’s post that some of you have hinted to a boat and cash prize included in the Blog Cabin 2014 Sweepstakes. It’s true, we’ve sweetened the pot by adding even more to the winnings!

This year’s grand prize winner will receive a 2015 MasterCraft NXT 20 wakeboard boat and a $50,000 cash prize from national mortgage lender Quicken Loans. After the Cabin Comforts Giveaway is over, we’ll be hosting a Boat Vote on the blog. During the Boat Vote, you’ll get to have a say in how the 2015 MasterCraft NXT 20 wakeboard boat will be designed, by picking color combos.

Get excited, because this is first time EVER we’ve given away a boat!

  1. Happy Friday Everyone!. It's awesome. Hopefully the money will help curb the expenses on the house and the winner will actually be able to live there. And the boat, wow! Such a fun and generous bonus. And now about the house. I have a question regarding the beautiful windows. I see screens on the windows but in the up position. Should it be this way? Seems to take away from the design a bit. Any comments please?

    • ooops! My computer glitched. Didn't look like my first comment went out. Sorry about that.

Lorna on April 11, 2014 at 8:54 pm
  2. The 50K will help (some) with the winners taxes. And the boat, an absolute bonus! especially living on a lake. Zip around or go to the country club for dinner, by your own personal water taxi. Looking forward for the choosing of the colors and hopefully, careful thought will be made as for the color palette/choices. I am hoping for at least one eye popping bright color to make everyone on the lake say, it's XXX with their new boat. Not to sound greedy but are we assuming a trailer comes with that bad boy? Would like to tow to other parts of the state. Now I am really waiting for the dock and the type of dock storage for the boat. A hydraulic life too? Nothing wrong with asking for the world. We can bring the coffee server from the master bedroom down to the dock for the mornings' enjoyment (not one for hanging out around the bedroom in the morning unless wife is in good mood). The morning bass will be supper.

    • I think I would drive to the country club and save a lot of money on gas. Boats like this go very few miles on a gallon and driving it slowly damages the engines. Marine gas is nearly $6 a gallon too. ;)

    • Ditto to every ones comments. Think red people, or some version of it.

Jay Michajluk on April 11, 2014 at 10:11 pm
    • Seems that a close property already has a red one so maybe another color? Do we want to stand out in the crowd or blend in to the lake environment. I'd say "stand out" and bright orange as main color with a white tower for the toys. It can be the ultimate Creamsicle!

KMH on April 13, 2014 at 4:35 pm
    • Based on my visit to the MASTER CRAFT web site I am not so sure that they offer colors that "Blend In" (Which is probably intentional). When you are towing someone you want the other boats to see you.

A CREAMSICLE color combination works for me.

  3. Ditto to everyones comments. Could not have said it better. Thank you everyone for everything. It is going to be a contest. Get your postcards ready. Cannot wait And I thought Lego land was exciting lol.;):):D It is special to get the boat but to pick colors wow!! I too want to live in the home full time, not just to win and sell. Hope this money and insites here and there helps and God"s way

    • I've already checked the site and had fun trying out the various exterior and interior colors. Wow!

Trish on April 12, 2014 at 8:48 pm
  7. A boat? Wow! Now I really hope we get a fish prep station as part of an outdoor kitchen. Someone is going to catch some dinner!

TwoCorgis on April 12, 2014 at 1:56 am
    • Fishing is okay, I guess. But, watersports are going to be the main attraction if I win.

travelfun on April 13, 2014 at 10:32 am
    • Cleaning fish inside can stink up the whole house so an outdoor prep station would be a good idea. My only concern is whether or not an outdoor ""Fish Prep Station" would attract additional wild life (ie. Gators) to the BC on a regular basis.

  8. Love the idea of the boat but that just adds to the amount of taxes we would have to pay for the prize. We won't be able to afford the gas to go out on the lake. Hate to throw cold water on the boat but lets get real.

Joyce in NJ on April 12, 2014 at 8:01 am
    • So the boat is a deal breaker OK what about the 50K in cash want to sign off on that one also?

KenD on April 12, 2014 at 8:12 am
    • Ken,
It seems like some folks are never happy, no matter what the prize. The larger the prize, naturally there will be more taxes. Let's hope there might be someone out there who can afford to keep this home. On some of those game shows where someone wins a car, they have to sell it, just to pay the taxes. Even if it is sold, the winner always comes out ahead.

Builder on April 12, 2014 at 10:12 am
    • That is true. Even if they have to sell they are better off than if they had not won. BUT, with the blog cabins, it is the home that we love and all wish that we can keep. We choose each item that will be incorporated into the home. We watch them remodel a building that would otherwise meet a wrecking ball. We are invested in the outcome of the home. To win, and then find out that the cost of ownership is too high to keep the home, …… even though financially we would be better off, …. the money isn't the point to these homes.
If it is just the cash pay off that a person wants, enter the HGTV DHs. They are not built as a family's forever home.

      Eugenia27 on April 12, 2014 at 5:51 pm
    • I disagree with you on the last sentence. The Dream Home is definitely a "forever home".

Builder on April 12, 2014 at 7:47 pm
    • To me they are more of a vacation getaway. This years Smart Home has ample storage. DHs never seem to have enough or any storage.Sent from my iPhone

      Eugenia27 on April 12, 2014 at 8:59 pm
    • You sir are correct.

KenD on April 12, 2014 at 10:59 pm
    • Want the cash. Would help to pay taxes

Joyce in NJ on April 12, 2014 at 1:00 pm
    • Joyce you can sell the boat valued at about $50,000 and along with the $50,000 cash prize that would be a lot of cash to go toward the taxes. there is no negative in adding the boat as a prize.

Gene on April 12, 2014 at 3:43 pm
    • That was the first thing I thought when I heard the value. That would sure help with paying the taxes. I'm more a row boat type of person anyway.

      Eugenia27 on April 12, 2014 at 5:55 pm
    • After checking out the link that RLDorf, provided, I may have to keep the boat.

      Eugenia27 on April 12, 2014 at 5:58 pm
    • You have to pay tax on the boat and the cash too so there's nowhere near $100,000 towards taxes. However the $60,000 'profit' after paying all the tax bills would certainly help with the income tax on the house. As people say it's better to have it than not.:)

Briony on April 12, 2014 at 6:07 pm
    • really you would have to pay taxes on the 100,000 *LOL* No S#@T

Gene on April 12, 2014 at 8:58 pm
    • Well I sure started something didn't I. Yes you could always sell the boat, but taxes would be due before you could sell.

Joyce in NJ on April 12, 2014 at 9:24 pm
    • The tax is due the end of the tax year in which the prize is won so must be paid by mid April 2015. You have plenty of time so sell boat or house before you have to pay the tax. All the BC's that have been sold except the Maine house were sold quickly after winning.

One smart thing to do is get several independent appraisals of the house, boat etc. to establish a FMV (Fair market value) as soon as possible. The IRS will accept the lower of either the ARV (value DIY gives the prizes for the 1099 form) or a FMV from accredited appraisers within a few weeks to a few months of the date the prize is awarded,

Sally on April 12, 2014 at 10:01 pm
    • Thanks Sally, I thought it would be due at closing. Good to know, so I could live there for several months befor I would have to worry about taxes. I am a widow woman and would love to have the security of this house, plus I just LOVE the house and its location.

  9. Good Morning bloggers, I hope everyone had a good nights sleep. I was checking out the cam a few minutes ago, and the magnolia blossom is absolutely amazing. I have visited south many times and have seen magnolia blossoms, but this one is special because it's the first one at our blog cabin. Just love it.
I am glad that we have more flamingos since Laurie is visiting. Maybe she will get Dylan to pay a bit more attention to them and not let the workers run them down.
Can't wait to see what happens next! Have a great day all and stay safe.

Jennifer Smith on April 12, 2014 at 9:00 am
    • If you are a golf fan, you will see lots of those fabulous Magnolia trees blooming at the Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA. Yesterday, those big pink flowers were amazing. That has got to be the most magnificent golf course in the world. :)

Builder on April 12, 2014 at 10:06 am
    • Love the MASTERS.

You will also see BIRDIES, EAGLES, and perhaps the rare DOUBLE EAGLE but none of our beloved CRANES (or TIGER's come to think of it).

    • I am only a fan of Mini golf. But, my daughter does love to play, but watching tries her patients – LOL. I may take a look to see if I can see a few blooms.

Jennifer Smith on April 12, 2014 at 2:53 pm
    • Just like Jordan Spieth said in the interview after Saturday's round, " Patience is the key to the game". I golfed for many, many years, and the ones who usually win, are the golfers who have patience. The others just get mad, and throw clubs, or have a temper tantrum when they hit a bad shot. One good thing about golf, "If you hit a bad shot, it is no one else's fault, but your own."

Also, there are tons of azaleas on the course, too. Simply beautiful yesterday.

      Go Bubba, or Jordan. :)
