Blog Cabin Buzz: Cabin Cam Update + Google Hangout

Apologies for the inconvenience, but occasionally the cabin cam will go offline. The connectivity on site can be unpredictable at times and we are still trying our best to fix it. I’ll keep you posted on the progress!

In the meantime, check out a brief update from Laurie and Dylan on YouTube >>

  1. Pre-thanks for fixing!

grswla on March 11, 2014 at 10:40 am
    • This has nothing to do with anything I can find on here, every time I try to write I am some where else on this thing so please bare with me. As far as the voting goes, tell me why people would want 2 office's in the same cabin? Why are they not going for the craft room? The way they have it set-up in the picture you have 3 desk areas you could put 2 computers in the same room on a different desk and still have a sewing or craft table, or any way you would want to use it. Do I sound nuts or what?

      cam1028 on March 12, 2014 at 3:52 pm
    • You may be confused. There's only one office (or craft room depending on the vote) and it's the small room behind the family room on the lower floor. There's no other.

AnniesOwn on March 12, 2014 at 3:56 pm
    • yes thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought there was another room as of they had said that , that was already an office, I didn't know it was being put to a vote for that room to be an office, now I feel dumb. oh I did figure how to work the camera thanks again as I know you will answer that one to. I think I am getting to excited, I almost feel like it's only me and a handful of people going for this instead of millions. I want this! You all are doing your work so well!!!:)

      cam1028 on March 12, 2014 at 4:11 pm
    • Sorry me again, how do you get to see with the camera? I love doing all this stuff and reading everyone else's thought's I sure hope I win this year. this is the 1st yr. I have voted or wrote on the blog:)

      cam1028 on March 12, 2014 at 3:58 pm
  2. Thanks for the fix here too. I was worried the trencher hit the power line and possibly injured someone.

mrmoogy on March 11, 2014 at 11:59 am
  3. The raised garden sounds awesome! Lots of yummy veggies! Makes me want to go out in my garden. :D

Aliecat on March 11, 2014 at 12:34 pm
    • To make it easier on the crew….getting a watering timer to water the garden without having to remember would be quite helpful. We have one for our garden. It makes it so much easier. Let the crew stay focused on this BC.

Trish on March 12, 2014 at 11:57 am
    • I like how the marigolds were planted in the garden beds to keep little critters away. :)

Is there a fourth garden bed, or is it the compost heap?

Trish on March 12, 2014 at 12:11 pm
    • There is a fourth! We left it empty so that YOU GUYS can decide what goes in!

      Laurie_March on March 12, 2014 at 12:39 pm
    • Awesome!

Will there be a way to get the water to the beds without having to think about it? Some type of timer/sensor feature? Is this why the wells are getting some special attention?

  4. Hi Laurie and Mr. Dylan, I hope You are enjoying Our beautiful Florida weather.^_^ I know we have had rain to damper the activities at times, but I'm sure it beats the Snow and cold up north of us…I Love what is happening with Our little Bungalow. You are doing a wonderful job and We Bloggers really appreciate You…Thank You for giving us this opportunity to go on this Journey with You..This is so much fun and I love everything about the process and Have since 2007 BC.."Smile"
A couple of thoughts… Will we have a chance to vote on the "color" of Shingles next P/C round and maybe that is why you haven't started roofing yet..My thoughts are, We have "really hot" summers here in Florida and the Sun really "beams" down where there is no shade. The Bungalow has no shade trees, so my thoughts are that the light colored shingles would not absorb the hot Florida sun as much as dark shingles. Maybe a shingle with medium green in it to go with the siding. Also lighter shingles would save on high Power bills for the Winner. Also I wonder if we will get gutters and downspouts this time or will you do the trench method again this BC..Thank you so much for another great Adventure and for listening to your Bloggers ^_^;):)^_^B)<3

    Jennie/Florida on March 11, 2014 at 12:47 pm
    • I doubt very much that we will be voting on shingle color if we haven't by now. They probably won't want to leave the roof protected by only the roofing felt for as long as it would take to finish the next round of voting.

RLDorf on March 11, 2014 at 2:09 pm
    • Yes RLDorf, I have to agree with you, I think it's too late for shingle votes but you can't blame a blogger for trying ^_^ Just Wishful thinking on my part ^_^B) Have a good evening:)

      Jennie/Florida on March 11, 2014 at 9:56 pm
    • Speaking of roofing…does anyone think all or part of the roof may be in standing seam metal?

Ralebird on March 12, 2014 at 2:27 am
    • Ralebird,

I like the look of a metal roof on a traditional cabin. However, based on the sketches shown to select EXTERIOR COLOR I am expecting a standard roof in charcoal (Similar to the neighbor on the left as you view the BC from the lake).

MAOW on March 12, 2014 at 9:13 am
    • Well it looks like we are not going to have the craft room I was really hoping we would get it in. you could still put an office in there and have plenty of room. Oh well not to be, I want it any way! I hope we don't vote on that , I think there are plenty of outside stuff we can vote on … I hope. Are ya all getting sick of me yet? heehee.

      cam1028 on March 16, 2014 at 2:31 pm
    • The room that's up for office or craft room is very small. It was the front porch of the original house. It's about 6 x 7 ft. There's no room for it to be both office and craft room. Personally, I see no real reason for a home office but others do. I work from home and do most of my designs and plans on my tablet. Craft room/small spare bedroom would be my preference to give more versatility. However, the voters say differently and I'm sure DIY will give the house a great office space. :)

Sally on March 16, 2014 at 2:56 pm
    • I too was hoping for a craft room. Maybe they will have it set up to where you can make it a craft room if you win it. I am sure it will have cabinets for storage and you can use the desk top to do your designs. I think it can be a versatile area.

      CheleRS3 on March 17, 2014 at 8:53 pm
    • Metal roofs come in many colors!

mrslakehamilton on March 26, 2014 at 10:24 am
    • But they don't come in red and white bundles!

Ralebird on March 26, 2014 at 1:31 pm
  5. Noticed a trailer in the back yard wtih equipment from K-Ron, Inc. The build and repair Arbors, Pergolas and Trellises They are out of Lakeland, FL They also do porches, steps replace windows, etc.

Jay Michajluk on March 11, 2014 at 1:02 pm
    • Front porch maybe?

Clive on March 11, 2014 at 1:23 pm
  6. I hope Matt B. gets there and trims that sapling off the magnolia tree, it's getting big; taking away what the main trunk should use.

    Denise_D_ on March 11, 2014 at 1:09 pm
  7. Any chance of the CAMERA being moved INSIDE since nothing is happening OUTSIDE on our side of the house?

MAOW on March 11, 2014 at 1:21 pm
    • No they haven't in the past for us to see. There would be no surprise when you watch the shows.

      Denise_D_ on March 11, 2014 at 1:32 pm
    • Denise,

Maybe it's just me but I watched the 2013 BC marathon on Sunday and during the last 3 minutes of each show I was still surprised at how great everything looked together even though I had seen the first 27 minutes of the crew working on a space.

For me, they can shut off the camera right before the reveal and I'll still be happy. It's not like I am not going to watch the show because I saw something on the Blog Camera. Actually I am probably more likely to watch if I have an idea of what is going on.

MAOW on March 11, 2014 at 2:45 pm
    • I don't want to be contrary but when they did the BC in Woodstock, NY they had a camera inside, if I am remember correctly. Even with that being inside it was still a surprise when finally done-LOL!
I can't wait to see how they finish this home-it will be a beauty I am sure!

ruffybc on March 13, 2014 at 12:09 pm
    • Sorry. I have never seen the camera move either. My hope is we get still pics like before the cam for the front of the house and maybe the front acreage to give viewers a sense of the property and Spanish moss (for those who do not know) of what it looks like up close entwined in the trees. Seems like they will wait until front porch and chimney are done before that happens??

KMH on March 11, 2014 at 1:38 pm
    • KMH,

Sorry to hear that you can not get the CAMERA to move. Moving the CAMERA around to focus on activity can be great fun. Have you tried to contact TrueLook to get assistance using the Blog CAMERA?

MAOW on March 11, 2014 at 2:48 pm
    • I think KMH was talking about moving the location/vantage poing of the camera.

RLDorf on March 11, 2014 at 3:37 pm
    • Thx. Yes, the location.

KMH on March 11, 2014 at 4:51 pm
    • KMH

Oh.. My bad. Hopefully they will move the CAMERA to the FRONT for a while.

MAOW on March 11, 2014 at 4:54 pm
    • They may when one of the two yard landscapes is worked on, but not until then I'm expecting.

      Denise_D_ on March 11, 2014 at 5:22 pm
    • I also have that issue. I have never been able to get it to move very far and if it focuses-it is extreme movement:<( I find it very frustrating. Clive and others have tried to help me-but I guess I am hopeless or it is my computer-yes, must be the computer-can't be me! lol! I still keep trying and looking in. o.0

ruffybc on March 13, 2014 at 12:12 pm
    • Blog Cabin 2010 was the last one with an indoor camera. When Dylan took over the general contractor/designer role in 2011 the cameras stayed outside. However, we've had two cameras, front & back, before. I'm sure, when things get a little more advanced, there will be some more videos and still pics of the interior and other sides of the exterior, just not he finished project until they reveal all in July. :)

Sally on March 11, 2014 at 1:53 pm
    • Sally,

Thanks for the insight. Two cameras, front and back, would be nice. :)

MAOW on March 11, 2014 at 2:23 pm
    • Any chance…..slim to none! Besides, there is still plenty to be done outside that we would not want to miss.

RLDorf on March 11, 2014 at 2:10 pm
    • RLDorf,

You are probably correct but it doesn't hurt to ask. I was encouraged by Sally's response that at one point there was an indoor camera and the possibility of two outside cameras.

I am looking forward to see what will be done outside but wonder how long it will actually take to finish the outside. ROOF SHINGLES should take a day. The 2013 BC had the PORCH DETAILS, YARD, TRELLISES, PLANTS, and PATH finished in a day (7 hours). The 2013 BC also had 2 or 3 days for the STONE PATIO, OUTDOOR KITCHEN, FIRE PIT, and SHELTER. Finishing the EXTERIOR SIDING will also take some time.

Unless some unexpected outdoor feature (Pool, Garage, Huge Driveway, Guest House, etc.) is added I fear there will be many days with little of no outdoor activity to watch (Expect for the Alligators and Birds (Which are great)).

MAOW on March 11, 2014 at 2:38 pm
    • My husband sent them an email and the camera company said that there are no plans for more than the one camera at blog cabin. That doesn't mean they won't move it though. Just thought you would like to know.

Jennifer Smith on March 11, 2014 at 6:12 pm
    • Jennifer,

Thanks for sharing. Let's hope that the CAMERA is moved once most of the work "Out Back" is completed.

  8. Cam off line

    • Denise,

It looks like it is back up. Happy viewing. :p

  9. What a gorgeous day it is at our cabin. Wish I could be there, but we have made it to 50 (of course we have a huge storm tomorrow coming). I am going nuts waiting to see anything else happen. I know I should be patient, but that isn't in my nature. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they will either start the siding or the roof soon. Have a good day, and those in the line of the storm, stay safe.

Jennifer Smith on March 11, 2014 at 3:06 pm
  10. Pink is on the magnolia tree . Looking wrong way for view of our home or view of the lake witch is also pleasant. Wish we could swim in it but I will let gators have it. enjoying everything but sometimes when I blog it does not print for some reason but I still enjoy everything. I enjoy reading blogs and learning all new things but esp. watching home grow cannot wait till finished. I love it. will continue blogging showing up or not and watching home grow. I did see Dylan's pixs as usual excellent taste. Will love where they get put. one of blogs got off. you guys are all super!

    :) :DxD
