Where’s It Headed? Check Out the Winter Haven Lot

Blog Cabin 2014 Location

For just one minute, let’s pretend there isn’t a winter storm advisory headed my way and instead I’m sitting in an Adirondack chair on the future lawn of Blog Cabin 2014 staring at this view. Is anyone with me?

I know you all are dying to know when our lovely bungalow will be moved, and all I can say is … soon! I promise to keep you updated as I learn details. In the meantime, here’s a peek of the Winter Haven, Fla. lot overlooking Lake Hamilton where the home is headed. The clues all make sense now, don’t they?

  4. Hi Kayla and thank you again for another awesome update! The lot is so beautiful with all the trees further back, but I would so love to see a screened in gazeebo as close to the water as possible and nearby the dock (hopefully one will be put in! ).

I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving and please stay safe in that nasty storm! <3 Jill

  7. Crossing fingers and toes that we get to see the house rolling down the road. That will make a really awesome show. Guessing you won't be crossing any major highways???? Can't wait!!!

    • Don't get too impatient, Ashtabulannie. We don't want the house movers exceeding the speed limit with our Blog Cabin in tow!

Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see what challenges they encounter, and just where they'll place the house on that lakeside lot.

  8. I just heard that an EF 2 Tornado hit Atlantic Beach, NC last night. I hope that Mari and Ken are OK, and that their Blog Cabin 2013 was not damaged. It was certainly constructed well to withstand high winds. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone – be safe out there!

    • Hello Two,
Thank you for your concern. We´re OK. We haven´t gotten to the cabin yet but I believe it is fine,
      Have a great Thanksgiving!
      Mari.

    • Glad all ok at the cabin, Mari ! I was thinking about it and you when I heard the notice. Would have been so disappointed if it was damaged. I know it was constructed for hurricanes, but tornadoes are something different. Please let us know if you are going to live there and hopefully pictures too.
Thinking of those that were victims. blessings to all, Nan <3<3<3<3

    • Thank you Nan…it was saved this time…I am just sad for those who were affected. Ken and I are planning to make it our primary home so we'll keep y'all posted.

    • This is even starting out with good omens Mari.

      540sam on December 1, 2013 at 4:00 am
    • Mari, it is fine. It didn't strike anywhere near there. It did, however, destroy Moms condos in Atlantic Beach, sadly. I have been here since Wednesday morning trying to save a few things and dodging the police to do so. Building is condemned.

    • Oh, Lulubelle13, I'm so sorry to hear this. I didn't know anything about the bad weather.
Gosh, I feel like jumping in the truck and heading out to help you.
Please let us know how this turns out for you and if there is anything we can do to help.
      Blessings on your family's safety.

    • You are very kind. I am finishing up today and my older brother finally showed up via a shame game and has most of the salvageable furniture on its way back to Raleigh. I am finishing up here today (been here since Wednesday) and have some gal pals meeting me this evening to get everything unpacked and sorted for cleaning and proper storage. It was a hot mess up there and a crazy gauntlet to get to and from the condos. Gosh I will miss that full on ocean view she had and enjoyed for 32 years. But so sad my 78 year old Mom has lost her Happy Place. She will have free run of mine of course, but I look at Cape Lookout past a transformer. And there is the possibility that I may lose mine too, although it is fine, because with 2/3 of the condos condemned, the homeowners may vote to sell the land. It is the biggest underdeveloped stretch of beach on the island, very low density, and we love it here.I pray and ask you to that they will be rebuilt and that Mom can keep her view.

      Lulubelle13 on November 30, 2013 at 2:30 pm
    • You are lucky to have such good friends. And I know about sometimes having to shame a brother into action. Your family will be in our prayers.

    • So sorry to hear about the damage to your mother's condo, but glad she is oK. I hope it can be repaired. We spend a couple weeks each summer renting in the area and love it, but have had to evacuate a couple times. Scary. Wishing you and your Mom the best.

      Vagrammie3 on November 30, 2013 at 10:06 pm
    • I'm so sorry to read of your condo situation and that of your mom. I thank God for keeping your mom out of harms way. My blessings to you all and I will definitely keep you all in my prayers. Love to you and your mom. XXXOOO<3

    • Thanks Laurie! I am just glad Mom wasn't here. There is a heavy cabinet in the middle of her bed! No one died in this tornado, but had it been summer someone surely would have. At the end of the day, that is what matters.

      Lulubelle13 on November 30, 2013 at 2:34 pm
    • Hi Laurie,
Any possibility tjat you could put in a word to Kayla for LuluBelle so that her request to unblock her home IP address gets a response?
      Thank you,
      Mari.

Macusina on December 9, 2013 at 5:02 pm
    • Aw, Lulu, I am so sorry about the condo :( …wish I was closer to help out…what are the authorities doing to help the victims? So many have been affected…the good thing is that there were no casualties…and praise God your Mom wasn't there.

Macusina on December 1, 2013 at 12:01 am
    • I saw that too this morning on the news and was wondering the same thing!:S

Debbie on November 27, 2013 at 1:39 pm
    • Atlantic Beach is about 40 miles from Atlantic so, hopefully, the 2013BC is fine. It was built to withstand that sort of storm so all should be well. :)

AnniesOwn on November 27, 2013 at 1:47 pm
    • Nothing is really built to withstand tornados. Moms condo has been hit by many a hurricane over the years. But just like that, poof, a tornado takes it out.

      Lulubelle13 on November 30, 2013 at 12:17 am
    • Yes, Lulubelle13, where I live in Texas we know about tornadoes. They come up suddenly & with little warning and NOTHING in their path is safe. All anyone can do is take immediate cover. It is so sad that an area prone to hurricanes can still be taken out with a twister.
Again, let us know what we can do to help.

    • Well, I've found out many insurance companies won't cover the area…

Macusina on December 1, 2013 at 12:09 am
    • Isn't there a Federal insurance Program?

    • I don't think Mari and Ken are at the BC until after the Holidays. Am I correct?

Straybird on November 27, 2013 at 7:22 pm
    • Hi all,
We´re still in California. Heard about the storm but I believe the cabin is fine…keeping my fingers crossed.
Have a wonderful blessed Thanksgiving and stay tuned. :)
      Love,
      Mari.

  9. It looks like a great challenge and I can't wait to see it finished. Are you going to lift it up like the NC cabin in case of hurricanes? I didn't understand why you didn't put roll down storm shutters on it, so the owners wouldn't have to keep pounding plywood into the walls when a storm comes. One of these times a senior will win it and it would be nice to have a big walk in shower with a seat and non-obvious hand holds. I certainly could see myself living in Fl, especially in the winter. Nice choice of location

  10. When they move the house I'm sure they'll repurpose the old iron furnace that's presently in the basement.

My idea would be to see if it's possible to convert it into an outdoor pizza oven for the deck or another outdoor kitchen (similar to last year). We haven't had an outdoor pizza oven since the awesome one they built for the 2008 lake house. As were're back to a lakeside setting maybe we can go with a pizza oven again. :) xD:p

Clive on November 27, 2013 at 1:54 pm
    • I hope you are right. That furnace is beautiful and a pizza oven would the best.
