  1. I was wrong on my Savannah, GA location guess, but this location looks amazing. The house itself does not look so hot right now, but I can't wait to see how it turns out. It amazes me that they are moving it from one location to another. The lake will be a beautiful new location for the home. Can't wait to start voting on designs!!

    • As I looked at the house and property for the first time, something felt familiar. Then it hit me. The house looked like so many in the area and the property looked like the center of Florida. I was born in Lake Wales.

  3. Imagine the panoramic view of the lake from the room upstairs! We still have a lot of research to do….there are a lot of lakes around Winter Haven, FL. It will be a challenge to determine the actual relocation site for the house.

    • I totally agree RLD lots of lakes !

Sheri McNamara on November 21, 2013 at 12:44 pm
    • I've already tried the Birds eye view on the maps to find it. This is NOT going to be as easy as the last one. Hmmmmmmmmmm…..I just heard it's being MOVED……Now, this is making it even MORE difficult. I was using the street in front of the house and the empty background. OK guys…come on!!!

Trish on November 22, 2013 at 4:03 pm
    • Hi Trish….Lake Hamilton, NW shore of the lake. Look for a large, deep, vacant lot between two similarly large lots with houses on them. There are trees approx. halfway into the 999' deep lot. I'd put the address in here, but the editors are deleting mentions of specific addresses for privacy of neighbors. It is hard to argue with that. I'm 99.9% sure that is the place. The lakefront matches the brief glimpses shown in the video.

    • Here is the Zillow description of the property which I found (based on RDL's findings) before we were advised to not discuss the exact address:

Located on Lake Hamilton, this beautiful and tranquil property offers 5 acres with large oak and pine trees. Large barn/shed. Kubota tractor with mower and disc for maintaining the property. There is a shallow well and pump as well as a deep well. The property is wired for underground electric and is fenced on all sides with redwood fence across the front of the property. This is a lovely piece of land to build your dream home on. There's plenty of room for horses, great fishing and skiing on Lake Hamilton, and you can land your sea plane on the lake! Country feeling with easy access to central Florida attractions and 15 minutes from LegoLand.

    • Well, best of luck to you. Hope you win it.

      Addy243 on November 23, 2013 at 4:16 am
    • Lake Hamilton is big enough in all directions so that you shouldn't have any trouble landing your plane no matter what the wind direction!

RLDorf on November 23, 2013 at 12:30 pm
    • That was sarcasm. No sea plane, I stay boat broke.

      540sam on November 23, 2013 at 3:21 pm
    • I know….at least ownership of seaplanes is unlikely for most of us. According to one map, there is a seaplane facility on the E side of the lake….but it appears to be long-gone. Jimmy Buffett has a couple of seaplanes, maybe he will lend us one to use.

  5. Ok….the "Chain of Lakes" (Winter Haven, FL) consists of 5 lakes – Lake Mizell (62 acres), Lake Minnehaha (98 acres), Lake Osceola (157 acres), Lake Virginia (225 acres) and Lake Maitland (449 acres). See: http://www.floridalakefront.com/popular-lake-comm

RLD on November 21, 2013 at 10:46 am
    • Whoops….wrong part of the "chain"….these are in the Winter Park area….NOT Winter Haven. I've obviously got more work to do! Sorry.

RLD on November 21, 2013 at 11:13 am
    • Wrong, don't know where you are talking about. The lake they are showing looks like Lake Howard. Just one of several, but none you said. I live in Winter Haven.

    • Winter Haven's Chain of Lakes is made up of two chains, one with 16 lakes, the other with nine, none of which is included above. Those lakes are not in Winter Haven, FL.

JCT on November 21, 2013 at 5:46 pm
    • Chain of Lakes consist of 19 lakes my friend, just moved from there after living 6 years in Winter Haven.

Dana on November 21, 2013 at 7:03 pm
    • Ummm. Those lakes are not in our Chain of Lakes! The Chain of Lakes has 16 lakes: Lake Howard, Lake Cannon, Lake May, Lake Summit, Lake Eloise, Lake Winterset, Lake Mirror, Lake Shipp, Lake Hartridge, Lake Lulu, Lake Roy, Lake Jessie, Little Lake Eloise, Spring Lake, Little Lake Winterset, and Lake Idylwild. Winter Haven is a beautiful city.

    • Yup….figured that out. Wish I could delete that post. The BC site is on Lake Hamilton, NW, almost directly across from the canal to Middle Lake Hamilton.

    • Might want to check out your facts the Chain Of lakes in Winter Haven, Consists of 16 lakes, which none are the one you mentioned

Mike Miller on November 22, 2013 at 2:11 pm
    • Wow, you are so wrong! Polk County is home to over 550 lakes and the chain-of-lakes itself has a bunch. Used to be home to Cypress Gardens, now LEGOLAND. _

djslay on November 23, 2013 at 9:15 pm
    • YOU ARE SO SO SO WRONG!!!!!! THIS IS WINTER HAVEN,, NOT WINTER PARK OR WINTER GARDEN. I WAS BORN HERE AND THIS IS MY COUNTRY. LAKES ARE HOWARD, SPRING, ELBERT, BLUE, MARTHA. SILVER,,MAY, AND ON AND ON. LOOK BEFORE YOU TWEET. M. LANG, WINTER HAVEN, FLORIDA NATIVE AND PROUD OF IT !!

    • Try reading all the blogs in this thread before blogging yourself and don't 'shout'. It's rude and impolite. If you bothered to read what's written you would see the mistake was corrected several days ago.

DannyF on November 24, 2013 at 12:54 pm
    • Honey, I grew up on the "chain of lakes" in Winter Haven. There are more than 100 lakes in the area and 100 of them are connected by canels…thus the chain. Cypress Gardens (aka Legoland) resides on Lake Eloise which is probably the biggest lake on the chain. We use to boat out there from Lake Cannon and watch the ski show.

Susan on November 24, 2013 at 3:30 pm
    • The chain of lakes you mentioned is the winter park chain of lakes. Winter Haven is about 40 miles away and home to Cypress Gardens and LegoLand

Richard on December 9, 2013 at 9:40 am
    • Recheck the locations of the lakes mentioned. They aren't in Winter Haven, Florida.
There are 16 canal connected lakes in Winter Haven.
Visit the Chamber of Commerce website and watch the pictures change on the home page…one of them mentions the 11 lakes. http://winterhavenchamber.com

    • The 2014 Blog Cabin site is fantastic and I look forward to see its transformation. I absolutely love all fruit. My birthmark is an orange so I totally love oranges. I can eat half a dozen at a time.

Janice on November 21, 2013 at 6:28 pm
    • The house might be orange. The furniture might be orange. orange appliances. Orange rugs. An orange chandelier w/ oranges dangling. I'm sure they'll have a nice big fruit basket on the table w/ oranges in it. Can't get enough vitamin C !

  7. Wow…ummm. anxious to see the outcome of this one. Looks like a nice neighborhood. I see lots of hidden treasures b.c. can use, hope the area is kid friendly

cynthia ussery on November 21, 2013 at 10:50 am
    • Cynthia, Winter Haven is very kid friendly, We are the home to Legoland Florida, Bok Tower Gardens & Fantasy of Flight and just minutes from several theme parks such as The Disney Parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom & Downtown Disney), Universal Studios, Sea World & Busch Gardens. We also have parks, nature trails, watersports, fishing & much more. Centrally located in the state, it is just a short drive to go to the areas best beaches. I have lived in Winter Haven my whole life and love it. I'm so glad that DIY is doing the Blog Cabin here.

Steph on November 21, 2013 at 8:47 pm
    • Actually, Bok Tower Gardens is in Lake Wales. There's also Captain Fred's Airboat Rides, conveniently located across the lake in Lake Hamilton. Right off of 27 on Crump Road.

Allyson on November 21, 2013 at 8:52 pm
    • Yes, I know but it's only a short drive from WH. I can actually see it from my house in WH. I have never tried Captain Fred's Airboat Rides out but I have seen the signs on 27. There are so many activities to do in our area, I think that we are quite lucky.

Steph on November 22, 2013 at 1:27 pm
    • Wow. Didn't know, sounds like a great vacation place

cynthia ussery on November 25, 2013 at 4:26 pm
  8. I'm reasonably confident that I can locate the lot where the house will be "planted"…but it will take some time on-line examining aerial maps of the shorelines. The intro video shows about 3 seconds of view from the lake. With some luck, I'll be reporting back by Monday.

RLD on November 21, 2013 at 11:00 am
    • Forget my "Monday" overly-optimistic estimate for finding the location. There are 20+ lakes in the Winter Haven part of the "chain". This will take some time!

Bob on November 21, 2013 at 4:44 pm
    • Took a shortcut and found the Scripps Network press release they sent out this morning…saying that the new site is on Lake Hamilton. I checked sat photos of the lake and found what appears to be the site:
2090 W. Lake Hamilton Drive, Winter Haven, FL 33881. The lot and waterfront seem to match the glimpses in the video. I tried looking at Polk Co. building permits, but came up dry.

As for having a job….retired cop.

RLD on November 21, 2013 at 4:48 pm
    • Agreed, I came to the same location after reading the Scripps release and looking at the pictures. Google shows some 4-5 acre lots in that area too.:)

SID on November 22, 2013 at 11:26 am
    • My pleasure…..though the "Editors Note" inserted above the blog thread late yesterday indicates that DIY isn't so happy that I gave the site an address. I'm surprised that the blog moderators haven't already deleted the entries by now. Scripps Network takes the blame for enabling my find…they named the lake in their press release. I'd still be zooming in on shorelines today without that head-start! My first attempted shortcut was to search Polk County building permits…but I couldn't find an easy way to do that without a plat number.

RLD on November 22, 2013 at 12:28 pm
    • Yikes! None of us intended in the least to be naughty! I guess the Network didn't realize how ingenious bloggers can be in following even the tiniest of clues. I remember last year the exact google address of the 2013 house was discovered by industrious bloggers very early in the season. None of us has ever realized that early location discussion is in any way privileged or would be disrespectful of the privacy of neighbors. :$ Researching property records and listings is after all only accessing public information records that are by law available to anyone. :(

    • Kayla, I was sure you wouldn't be mean….Moving a house….oh man! This is MORE difficult. A few minutes from Winter Haven? Did I hear this correctly?

Trish on November 22, 2013 at 4:05 pm
    • Hi Kayla, I am curious regarding historical designation of these early homes. Is this particular house included on a historical register? Is there a move to conserve/restore/catalog these early century homes at the county or state level? Those stick build bungalows of the Lakes area are some of the first communities built in Florida. (Other than swanky Palm Beach-Flagler retreats for the rich). Love to learn more about any community developments which strive to preserve these architectural pieces of early Florida History.
