Blog Cabin 2014 Location: Clue One

A special note from Mary: I’d like to thank you for being such a fun and supportive audience. It’s been my pleasure to blog with you over the past five years. It is now time for me to move on to new adventures. Although I must bid you farewell, I leave you in the capable hands of HGTV.com editor Kayla, who will be keeping you updated on the latest Blog Cabin developments. Kayla loves furniture with a history, her cat, D’Artagnan, and crafting with lots of glitter. If you read HGTV’s Design Happens blog, then I’m sure you recognize her — check out her posts here. Now, let’s hear from Kayla for her very first post!

Wow — talk about a warm introduction! Hi, everyone. I’m so happy to join the Blog Cabin community and interact with you all about the soon-to-be stunning home you’re going to get to know inside and out. I’ve always had a view of the Smoky Mountains from my window, so I’ve loved seeing past homes get a taste of mountain life, too. When it comes to location, I’ll always have a soft spot for Blog Cabin 2009‘s Asheville, N.C. surroundings. Design-wise, I find myself going back to the vintage-chic, waterfront home from 2011. I just want to cozy up with a glass of wine in that great room. Before we dive into this year’s home, let’s reminisce and get to know each other. From the first home in Kinzel Springs, Tenn. to this year’s Atlantic, N.C. residence, what’s your favorite Blog Cabin?

Blog Cabin 2014 Location: Clue One

Now, let’s get right down to business. Thinking caps on. Here’s your first clue to uncover the location of Blog Cabin 2014. Take a look at the water, wildlife, foliage … what are they telling you? My lips are sealed, but I’m ready to see those comments!

Check back Monday for clue number two.

  1. I liked the first 3 BC that had their own show, and not part of the "Crashers" shows and were new builds. I agree with LLColeman about the hosts, they were great. But I really like Chris Grundy and glad he has been the host of the last 2 and looks like he will be for 2014 too. Since I have never been in the South I haven't a clue where the picture was taken.

  3. Kayla's first clue has certainly had my mind spinning. I've been leaning towards a SC location, but then reading bloggers stating this might be a lake or river in the photo above got me thinking of the little coastal town of Southport, NC, south of Wilmington. It has the most striking vistas of the Cape Fear River, and Bald Head Island is right across from this pretty little town, sitting in the Atlantic Ocean, certainly smaller but kind of like the Outer Banks which are across from the Atlantic home.
The Nicholas Sparks movie Safe Haven was filmed in Southport, so the town residents are use to film crews. Could this little coastal town be the running for the next BC location http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05v9AaOoAJ0

    • wow indeed looks as if this could be our location

twoTERRIERs on November 17, 2013 at 11:55 am
    • I wish we knew for sure Two! I was on team SC pretty firmly Friday & Saturday, but today I'm open to the idea of other possibilities. Perhaps there are some other bloggers thinking of a certain Lake or River the BC might have a sweeping vista of, that could post a link? I like discovering and learning about new places from bloggers.

    • Oh what a pretty place.

      vicki_in_Utah on November 17, 2013 at 12:08 pm
    • Bald Head Island which is directly across from Southport, NC to borrow a phrase from comedian Adam Sandler, "Ain't to shabby"

    • "Check back Monday for clue number two." Do you think that's a promise? Or a possibility? What if we check back on Monday…and nothing turns up?

Kayla wouldn't do that to us, would she? I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight with all the uncertainty.

    • Hi Vicki– the comment about the next clue will be on Monday came from the last line under the clue #1 picture. It states "come back Monday for clue #2. Thank goodness for that because I'm ready to be in 2014 Blog Cabin! I'm semi-new to this wonderful group of bloggers. I leaped into the 21st century and bought a laptop part way into the 2013 BC and the bloggers were and still are very patient as they helped me work my way into a fun and very diverse group.Blessings to everyone.<3xD xxxooo

  5. I have noticed that not too many bloggers have had 2010 (Bethel NY) or 2012 (Waldoboro Main) as favorites. I liked the garage and basement of 2010, but not the kitchen and of course not the WC..LOL.. 2012 lost my vote when they got rid of the powder room, and no way to get to the basement from inside the house. But they were fun to watch and blog about.

    vicki_in_Utah on November 17, 2013 at 1:36 pm
    • Don't forget that front entry. I was trying to picture my mother, using her walker, crossing the street and trying to get to the front porch (that was not covered – IN MAINE!!!!)
Sorry, the land was beautiful as are the people but the house just didn't work. it was like a bunch of city folk were creating something that a city person would like and they did not consider what is NEEDED in a rural area.

      Eugenia27 on November 17, 2013 at 4:34 pm
    • With all the bad weather they have in Maine it just seem odd not to have a covered carport or garage next to the house, so you could bring in grocery's from the car, with out being in the weather, or having to cross the road.

      vicki_in_Utah on November 17, 2013 at 6:10 pm
    • The walk way was not smooth either. Mom and her walker and oxygen tank would have had a difficult time. Especially in winter!! Also the way the door opened into the home, there was no wind brake. I did like the inlay in the floor but we bloggers voted for that.

      Eugenia27 on November 17, 2013 at 8:01 pm
  6. If the next Blog Cabin location happens to be on a Florida lakefront it shouldn't be too difficult to narrow it down. After all, how many lakes can there be in Florida? ^_^

DBCoop on November 17, 2013 at 1:44 pm
    • Coop you are so funny!! There are quite a few lakes in Florida and I have already been on Google Earth checking them out!! So far, I cannot locate the location of the next BC but will continue on my search until Monday's clue. Maybe we might be going in another direction…….B)

      jchristie24 on November 17, 2013 at 2:02 pm
    • Don't stay up all night on Google Earth, jchristie, otherwise when Kayla posts the next location clue you might be asleep at the wheel. Especially when you consider that there are approximately 5,420 lakes listed for the state of Florida!

DBCoop on November 17, 2013 at 5:17 pm
    • Oh my goodness!

      vicki_in_Utah on November 17, 2013 at 6:08 pm
    • Ohh believe me Coop, I will not be burning the midnight candle by any means. I need my 8-12.hours every dY but it sure is fun looking at all the facinating scenery that we have here in FL. Kinda a way if cheating to see the sights but sure doesn't take as long to get there!!

      jchristie24 on November 18, 2013 at 12:55 am
    • Have you not heard of Lakeland ?? There are plenty of lakes in Florida, most of them are rather small compared to the larger lakes around the Country !!

  7. Hi Kayla
Don't forget we get cranky when our blog isn't updated in a fashionable manner. lol I'm thinking in the same area of N.C. next door to the past blog cabin.:)

MaryPA on November 17, 2013 at 2:12 pm
    • Hi MaryPA – Don't worry! I won't leave you hanging! :)

  8. South Carolina, Georgia or California

Elizabeth on November 17, 2013 at 2:55 pm
    • I have never seen those plants in Calif. So maybe S. Carolina or Georgia.

  9. Oh My, what a beautiful sunny 75 degree day here in Atlantic Beach NC. I only recently discovered Blog Cabin, and started following the blog after construction was complete. But after reviewing all of the others, BC 2013 is still my favorite. My guess for the BC 2014 is somewhere in the SC Low Country. I hope to participate in this one, but will need some help from Kayla….

  10. Hello to all, so glad to be starting on BC2014. I would have to say BC2013 has been my favorite since this was my first year blogging and I really fell for that gorgeous home, again congrats to Mari and family. I learned a lot this past year reading clues and following these fantastic bloggers. I will miss you Mary, you were wonderful. Welcome Kayla, I've been reading your blogs. As for the clue, I believe that is a banana palm on the left of the picture(we have many of them here in Florida).I'm not too sure about the birds yet. The dock may just be old and left to rot on its own. I'm hoping if it is in the south that it's salt water because there too many gators in fresh water around here .^_^ Looking forward to Monday(that's a first,Haha)for clue #2xD
