Go Behind the Scenes: Winner Drawing

Today, I am so proud to present a special video that highlights the process of gathering entries, both mail-in and online, and randomly drawing the name of the giveaway winner. Thanks goes out to HGTV.com senior editor Liz Gray and DIYNetwork.com visual designer Jason Kisner for creating this online presentation. Enjoy … and please return to this blog on Friday, October 11, 2013, at 9 a.m. ET to read the winner announcement.

1. I wasn't called on the day the winner was selected so I'm not the winner. BUT my HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2013 BLOG CABIN WINNER!!!! Hope you have many wonderful years here!

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 5:31 pm
2. I'm not sure what to infer from this video. Could be a mail in entry this year. Could have been the real phone call but can't believe they can get eligibility requirements completed that fast. Remember, Laurie told us that giving a house away isn't as easy as it seems.

jazzygirl9 on October 8, 2013 at 5:35 pm
• DIY must call the person they draw first in order to get permission to check their eligibility. It can't be done secretly as that's illegal for some things like SSN and tax status plus conflict of interest clauses and residency status. DIY must get the names of all kin and their place of work. Can't do that without permission in the short time frame. No super sleuths can do it either. That was, for sure, the winner being contacted. By Friday, all being well with the winners eligibility, their name will be announced. Good luck to them, whoever they are. I hope, sincerely, they get good, independent, professional advice on how to handle this ASAP and are able to enjoy this wonderful gift. :D <3

3. Assuming the winner has been notified, join me for a virtual gathering on the dock for a congratulatory toast to the winner of the 2013 Blog Cabin! Any time you get there is fine but you've got to be gone by sunrise. No exceptions!

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 5:59 pm
• Well, I don't know about you but I could use a glass of wine!

Eden1875 on October 8, 2013 at 6:07 pm

StormyWV on October 8, 2013 at 6:18 pm

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 6:56 pm

StormyWV on October 8, 2013 at 7:08 pm

StormyWV on October 8, 2013 at 6:18 pm

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 6:59 pm
• We may not all be gone by morning with all of that. The winner may come home to a dock full of bloggers. Lol

StormyWV on October 8, 2013 at 7:06 pm
• Not a problem. Since this is a virtual event, the winner may want to join us, just not tell us she's the winner.

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 7:17 pm
• Girl it is like your reading my mind

StormyWV on October 8, 2013 at 7:21 pm
• I am. Sending unlimited pitchers of the following: Bahama Mama, Sex on the Beach, Daiquiri, Jungle Juice, Margarita, Mai Tai, Pina Colada, Apple Martini, Long Island Ice Tea, Mojito, kegs of beer, along with unlimited bottles of water and fruit juice. Want to make sure everyone has a great final night at the Blog Cabin. Warning: Not responsible for anyone who abuses these virtual drinks and falls into the water.

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 7:42 pm
• Lessie the Piña Coladas is really good especially with that pineapple slice. Thanks I will share and not drink the whole pitcher. I brought some shrimp and crab dip with me for everyone and a box of Kleenex for the goodbye tears. This is bittersweet as there will never be another BC like this.
PS it's a shame it can't be a time share for all the Bloggers to spend some time here. Peace be with you all. ????

Straybird on October 8, 2013 at 9:00 pm
• So glad you're enjoying the Pina Coladas, Straybird. Love your shrimp and crab dip! No need for a box of Kleenex. For those who need to cry, let the tears freely flow. It's part of the healing process.

Bittersweet? Never, DIY homes improve every year. This location is a winner, but I'm sure there are other locations we'll fall in love with. As for bloggers spending time at the cabin, not possible because some, like me, would never leave.

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 10:46 pm
• Thanks and cheers to you, Lessie, you plan some great parties!!!<3:D

Sheri McNamara on October 8, 2013 at 10:57 pm

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 11:08 pm
• I've been enjoying the Mai Tais a little too much. I see three of everything, so that means there are two extra Blog Cabins! I'll take the one in the middle! ;-)

• I'll take the third one, Two! Just gotta find it. LOL!

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 11:09 pm

StormyWV on October 8, 2013 at 8:05 pm

twoTERRIERs on October 8, 2013 at 7:42 pm
• Good. You're an official greeter! Make sure everyone is having a great time, please. For those who need to shed tears, no problem. They can cry as they stroll the beach, but they can't use the outdoor shower. Visiting the Blog Cabin is definitely off limits. Otherwise, here's hoping everyone has a great time!

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 7:47 pm
• funny, just thinking, maybe diy is really going to surprise us this time:):)

• Wow, that's what I call a surprise TT. Can't wait to see if it's true.

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 11:11 pm
• God works in mysterious way. In the meantime Lessie, I'll take a mojito; stay away with that moon shine, I have enough with the colombian firewater.

Holidaygal on October 10, 2013 at 4:02 pm
• Everyone loves your lemonade Holidaygal. You must give us the recipe. :)

Lessie on October 10, 2013 at 7:51 pm
• Ready to Celebrate have on my water wings, just in case I fall into the water!! Drinking some yummy Lemonade using Meyers Lemons or the family secret recipe of lemonade whiskey!!
Ready y'all for lemonade receipe….
4 or 5 Meyer Lemons = 1 cup of juice
¾ cup sugar
5 cups water
Use a vegetable peeler or paring knife to trim several 1/2 inch wide strips of zest from each Meyer lemon. Set the zest aside and halve the lemons. Ps Roll each lemon over your cutting board, pressing down as you do. This will help them to release their juice.
Juice the Meyer lemons placing juice into a glass pitcher, scoop out any stray seeds with a slotted spoon.
Bring 5 cups of water and 3/4 cup of sugar to a boil; Once the sugar is completely dissolved, remove from heat to cool..
Pour the water and sugar mixture when cool into the pitcher that has the lemon juice.
Put the lemon zest into the pitcher
Refrigerate until cold. serve with ice.
Enjoy
Now the whiskey lemonade that is a family secret…become a family member and I will share ;-)

Holidaygal on October 10, 2013 at 9:32 pm
• I'm trying this recipe. As for the family secret, don't you remember me from the last family reunion? I was the one under the big tree out back talking to Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary. :)

MarleneD on October 8, 2013 at 8:28 pm
• It's ok to pitch a fit Marlene, as long as you do it in the privacy of your home. When you're ready to move forward, greet the winner as you would want to be greeted if you were the winner. Your feelings are real and so are hers. Both should be acknowledged.

Lessie on October 8, 2013 at 9:01 pm
