Go Behind the Scenes: Winner Drawing

Today, I am so proud to present a special video that highlights the process of gathering entries, both mail-in and online, and randomly drawing the name of the giveaway winner. Thanks goes out to HGTV.com senior editor Liz Gray and DIYNetwork.com visual designer Jason Kisner for creating this online presentation. Enjoy … and please return to this blog on Friday, October 11, 2013, at 9 a.m. ET to read the winner announcement.

  1. Looks like some of the mailed entries were larger than others. Does that affect anything? They make it look like the entries are batched, each batch is numbered, then they pull a batch number's ping pong ball and the winner from that batch. I pile of 18M entry forms would be huge. Wish I could mail in 3000 postcards.

  3. All this time I thought you could only enter via email. What is the address I can enter with snail mail? I've tried every year you've held this. It looked like a snail mail won, it that correct. Once again, please give me the address to enter by snail mail.

    • Bill,
Looks like you did not read the rules very closely, The rules were very clear in that you could enter twice a day electronically AND via snail mail
Some people on this blog have said that they mailed anywhere from 100 to 200 postcard entries in addition to their electronic entries. I believe that the winner of the Blog Cabin 2013 stated that she has been entering each Blog Cabin contest since 2007 via electronically twice a day with her morning coffee.
Here is a copy of their rules of snail mail: "…by mail, by hand printing your name, complete address, phone number (including area code) and date of birth either on a postcard or on a separate piece of paper no larger than 8½ x 11 inches, and mailing the postcard or paper in an envelope with the proper postage affixed to: "HGTV "NAME OF CONTEST" Giveaway, PO Box 52591, Knoxville, TN 37950". Entrants using US mail may enter as often as they wish."

  7. Well, guess I'll have to find somewhere else to raise my Great Grandson. This would have been the perfect place for him. As a special needs child (3 1/2 years old) I felt that maybe The Man up above had us in His plans. Oh well, maybe next time. Congratulations to the winner. Hope you have a wonderful life in your new home!! Enjoy!
