Blog Cabin 2013 Awarded Hurricane Bronze Certification

Blog Cabin 2013 Fortified Home Hurricane Bronze Certification

Big news from the building industry: Blog Cabin 2013 has received the FORTIFIED Home™ Hurricane Bronze Certification from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS).

IBHS’s Hurricane Standard helps homeowners in coastal areas strengthen their houses against these powerful storms. Incorporating the FORTIFIED Standard when repairing, rebuilding or renovating a single-family home ensures the structure’s resilience and durability.

Blog Cabin 2013 achieved this stellar rating by adhering to certain building requirements. The full list of requirements is outlined on pages 3 through 5 of this disaster safety document.

We’d like to thank sponsors and supporters who contributed building materials that helped us reach this goal. And we are thrilled to be able to present the winner of the Blog Cabin 2013 Giveaway with such a solid, storm-impenetrable — not to mention beautiful — home.

Please visit the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety web site for more details on this coastal home building program.

  1. Great feature & a wonderful honor. I'm curious why they call this a Vacation home. Looks like a perfect retirement home where the grandkids would love to spend the summer with Grandma & Grandpa

  3. The build and design team have done a wonderful job on this build, as all of the bloggers have noticed and acknowledged in recognition of DIY, Andrew Roby, Dylan Eastman, the Crashers etc, and rightly so. As I followed the construction via the cabin cam during all hours I notice one person that really stood out above everyone, his name is Robbie Davis of Andrew Roby. First to arrive every morning and last to leave, when he did leave, as he spent many all nighters, as well as weekends and holidays, by himself getting things ready for shooting the episodes for TV. His work ethic and supervision is one reason why this project seemed so fluid. So this is my special shout out to Robbie on a job well done.

    • I am glad you acknowledged Robbie Davis. Do you live near the BC site?

    • No, TonyE lives closest about 2mi away.

    • I was wondering if they would have an Open House like they did for Hgtv Smart Home and charge admission to benefit an organization. I sure would love to see this home in person. I live in Greenville SC so I do not think the drive would be too far. I will just have to keep dreaming. Let us know if you find the hand pump.

  6. I love this house…it feels like home…but I would not have to put that certification to the test!!! It is nice to know it is there, just in case!:)

  7. Great news for the cabin and the new owners who will be able to relax knowing all the thought and care that went into this rebuild. Thank you DIY for paying attention to things that may not always be visible.

  8. Congratulations DIY crews, Mary, Mr. Eastman, and the Andrew Roby team on this award, a nice reward for all of your fine work. I was impressed all along as the work progressed and we saw some rework being performed when things weren't done perfectly the first time. I would feel safe staying through a minor Hurricane (100 mph or so), but anything stronger than that I would probably seek higher, less windy ground – at least for the first one I might experience there. And of course, any insurance benefit would be gravy. So, not only is this home beautiful and the location beautiful, but it comes with peace of mind for the winner that it is likely to stand for a good long time. All good newsto me because if I were to be the fantastically lucky winner of this cabin, I plan to live there full time and enjoy many years with my family and grandchildren visiting.
