  4. Mary, I am so surprised and thrilled to be the recipient of the very first Gimme, Gimme Giveaway prize! I promise you I will always treasure this gift from the original 1892 cabin! Thank you so much for your many kindnesses, and also a big thank you to Mr. Eastman for taking the time to craft this wonderful reminder of early NC history.
Blogger friends, I have been overwhelmed reading all your congratulations and best wishes. Your posts remind me of what is most special and important about this site. While I will always fondly remember watching the original cabin being lifted, then sadly dismantled, the wonderful new home reconstructed, the landscaping and incredible views of the sound, and finally the gorgeous interior revealed, that is not what I will remember most. While I will always love the unexpected and delightful Gimme prize, it is not what I will cherish most about the 2013 Blog Cabin. The daily sharing of ideas, dreams, hopes (and sometimes very heartbreaking moments), the voting, arguing and caring about each other – Blogger Friends YOU are what I will remember and cherish most about BC 2013. A heartfelt thanks and good luck every bloggie in the next 'Gimme' and may a blogger win the dream!

    • Sandy, I am away from technology for a while, but am able to check in here briefly tonight and I saw you won the 1st GGGiveaway. Good for you! I'm so happy a blogger (especially one I know!) won something so special. I think this GGG was meant to thank all you bloggies for everything you've done in the past years to make BC such a beautiful place and that is a great idea from DIY.
I'm especially tickled for you that you have the very first piece of this years BC.
Good luck in the sweepstakes and – Cheers to you Sandy!

    • Windee…missing you…intending to call, but have misplaced your phone #. Am in Maine for 1 more week. Don't know if you've been on blog and followed all that's been happening. Computer w/ your email also crashed, so I have lost my address book, including your email. The power cord blew with a literal flash of big spark, burned my nightgown hem (thankfully nothing else) and the wire severed in half! It was plugged to a power strip thing, but the computer itself fried. :( I have a new laptop and am starting from scratch. Sorry!!! <3 :$:$:$:S<3 Kitty

    • Kitty, Kitty, Kitty,
Hi Kitty! Missing you too. Hope your having a great time in Maine! If you drive by the 2012 blog cabin blow it a kiss from me. lol. I'm still in love with that place, slowly getting over it. Almost there. :)
So sorry to hear about your computer. Thank God you are ok and your nightgown bore the brunt of it instead of you! Wonder what happened to the power cord? Sounds like it over heated? Wow, that seems odd. Could it have been it was not the right cord that went with the system which caused it to over heat?
I have your number and will give you a call, but not while your on vacation. I will let you truly relax .I have not been on the blog much, only stuck my head in a few times but did see SID won the coasters…Yay, was happy to hear that news! Checked to see if Mel approved of the landscaping and seems she likes it. The cabin came out nice and will be a lovely retreat for one lucky family! Hope all is well with you and yours and will talk to you soon. Have a GREAT TiME and enjoy every minute of your vacation!<3 Windee ;) B):D

    • Thanks Windee! Lots has actually happened , I think, since we talked. i don't know if you've followed what I've written in the blog, but I've been pretty open–had to be–we had some bad stuff . Weren't sure we'd make it to Maine, since our daughter has had a roller-coaster ride with severe illness and hospitalizations for mental breakdown and major problems., especially since she frequently quits taking her medicines. Thankfully, she decided to take meds so Gary and i could get away this trip! The big spark conundrum with my other laptop powercord was frightening! Thank God there was no fire–especially on my nightgown with me in it! :S The wire was actually relatively new–a replacement. and it did seem warm, but all the model and code #s matched the order, and my grandson, who built the computer said it was the correct cord but, like you, i wonder if it was over heated. There was no hole burned in my gown, just a black charcoal-like marking! Gary and I drove by the Waldoboro BC, Windee, and It looks so lonely and forlorn…. hey dropped the sale price unfurnished to $625,000. The entire situation is sad… Glad I didn't get burned from the power cord thing that could have been dangerous! Take care and we'll be home next Saturday! <3 Kitty

    • Kitty,
I haven't been following the blogs. So sorry to hear your daughter hasn't been well. Sounds like this is a much needed vacation for you and Gary! So glad you got to go! I hope your daughter will continue to take her medications as prescribed. Sometimes when the patient is feeling well they think they don't need to take medication, not realizing the reason they feel well is because of the medication! Good Luck, that isn't an easy place to be for your daughter or you or Gary.
In thinking about replacement parts, I know the replacement cord for my phone was not as good as the one it came with even though the cord was recommended. If I were you,I think I would contact the company to let them know what happened, so they are aware the replacement didn't support the product. If you do that let me know how you made out.
Too bad about the BC, that could have been a productive dandelion farm with all blog hands on deck. Lots of great ideas from the name to the cultivation of the land, There were No shortage of good ideas from bloggers….lol just saying.
Enjoy your stay and have a safe trip home. Talk to you soon…. Hello to all….<3 Windee :)

  8. OK! I'm really getting excited about this cabin! Does anyone know how much acreage this cabin sits on? Also, what if the winner were to purchase the cabin for a $1.00? Wouldn't you just have to pay the tax gains when you sold the cabin? IDK?

Michelle on July 31, 2013 at 5:53 pm
    • (1) 3 acres. (2) The IRS and the county/state tax assessors office would challenge fraud re their lost revenues.

Lindingo on August 1, 2013 at 3:05 pm
    • I read 3.5 acres and pretty sure county, sate and IRS would challenge as well!

  9. What an exquisite site. I love this part of the NC coast. And the Blog Cabin is one exceedingly livable home. Would love to have this Blog Cabin and a small condo in Raleigh for hurricane season. Does anyone in NC know how much regular home insurance and flood insurance would run for the BC? Is there a difference in insurance cost if one lives in the BC fulltime or only uses it as a vacation home? Here's a link to NC flood maps. http://www.ncfloodmaps.com/

ChicagoBirder on July 31, 2013 at 6:21 pm
    • Where on the map is the BC?

      Eugenia27 on July 31, 2013 at 7:42 pm
    • Eugenia, I think, looking at the flood map, that Moorhead City is probably the tip at the bottom of "CR". New Bern is Northwest of Mororhead City at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse Rivers. This entire area is spectatular. I'd love to go back there. This is an amazing spot for the BC. Someone is going to be very happy.

ChicagoBirder on July 31, 2013 at 8:27 pm
    • New construction and renovations like BC have hurricane strength construction and roofs and are raised to updated likely storm surge levels. Additionally, it's prudent to have an automated generator as BC has. BC incorporated storm planning. I'd love BC to be mine, though I'd be somewhere else for a Category 2 or greater storm. Here's some historic NC hurricane history. http://www.ncgenweb.us/hyde/maps/HURICANE.HTM

ChicagoBirder on July 31, 2013 at 9:10 pm
    • If you go by your hurricane history. you can just imagine the old cabin going through all of them since 1885 and you can see how that was constructed. Although storms are nothing to be trifled with I'm sure that the new construction is considerably stronger than the old. On your flood map the cabin is located on Core sound in Atlantic NC not New Bern.

    • Ah, thank you for the correct location!  I'm going from memory, is that the sound just south west of Cape Hatteras NS where the ferry is?  This is a fantastic re-build.  Extremely livable new floor plan.  Will be a wonderful vacation home for someone.
