  1. Soooooo. Anyone received an email from DIY yet? It has to be a blogger who wins the coasters. Maybe an 'old timer', maybe a 'newbie' with their first blog. Do tell please. :) :DxD

  2. Good Saturday morning to All, I have a very busy day ahead but wanted to drop in and wish Everyone a Happy Day… I did make a nice pot of fresh Coffee and made homemade Walnut waffles with cranberry syrup and fresh whipped cream topping, Hashbrowns with Bell pepper/Onion. Breakfast is served under the Pergola this morning…..Enjoy
Today is my Granddaughter's 12 th birthday.. She is a big horse lover and goes to the Ranch 3 days a week to feed, groom and ride her favorite horse.. So we're having Her party at the Ranch and all the children will get to ride horses and pony carts…The Party might get cut short due to the "daily" afternoon storms with torrential rains…Wish us luck^_^B)B)<3

    • Hi Sam,
The Birthday Party went great until it was time to open the Gifts, a big lightening strike came down close by, too close for comfort, it jarred the outdoor kitchen and Gazebo, so that ended the party pretty quickly and it started drizzling rain after the strike..
A tornado was sited 10 miles north of us during the horse riding but the weather was nice and Sunny where we were. The owner did alert us….We were so glad to get though the Horse riding, Great food and a De-lish B/Cake decorated with a hay barn and horses and a goat…. So cute… We rushed to cleanup and saved the Best for last!!^_^<3 Gifts, We Had to rush through the best part, but my sweet G/D was very Happy with everything and had a great time…We all ran for our cars before we got soaked..and the Ranch owner was gathering up her pack of horses and they were running to their Barn so they wouldn't get wet, lol There was 10 horses running down the muddy road toward the barn…What a wild sound!!! They were so beautiful and very well behaved and so patient with the children…Nice Day Sam, even with the rain^_^B)<3

    • I'm so glad the weather held for the party. It sounds like a good time was had by all, anyway children aren't as concerned with weather as much as we are.:)

But it is worth it to me as long as Diy continues to treat Us with the Blog Cabin adventures ^_^

    • My husband wanted to change our Dish account to save some money. NO WAY!!!! I would have lost DIY. It is worth it to me to pay more and get my DIY fix.

I have to add that when I told him I'd loose DIY he never brought it up again. He knows how much it means to me.
I love my favorite spouse. That is why he is my favorite. :)

I agree with you on giving the new owner a DVD on what they made about history of the home. I think it would be something interesting to see where the cottage started to where it is now. I think sending the winner there is great too so they can see it all first hand, but just not the same at all as to seeing the before and after photos. Just saying I think it would be a nice house warming gift for the winner.
As for the water pump, when they show the video on how the pump was fixed they show it place in middle of yellow flowers near a tree over by the outdoor kitchen area. But when you look at the pictures you only see a bird bath there, so I wonder if they moved it again? Wasn't there some yellow flowers behind the grapevines too? http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/blog_cabin/player/0

    home_girl on July 27, 2013 at 10:37 am
    • Homegirl, I had a dream last night about THAT PUMP. I dreamed that Laurie and Chris were hiding it from us in some shrubbery and giggling about it, going to make us hunt for it. I woke up laughing. What a silly dream.

Wind Chime Girl on July 27, 2013 at 4:59 pm
    • Hi Rhonda, good to see you! The reason I suggested the Video as a house warming gift for the New Owner, is because so many who enter to win don't Blog and don't know what's really involved…They just know to enter to win the Blog Cabin…So just in case the winner is one of those who entered to win and know little about the BC, I thought that video would catch them up to date on this Beautiful Cabin and learn how it all came to life..The Robinson's had a very interesting history behind them and I would love to have a copy of the Video if I won, so I could show it to my Family and Friends. It would give them an Idea of what the Blog Cabin is really all about and how I got hooked and why "I spend Sooooo much time on my computer viewing DIY "Blog Cabin" LOL<3<3<3B)<3
I wish Laurie would reconsider my suggestion…The Winner could still blog on the thread with us if they wanted, but if they chose not to, they would have the Robinson's History in the Video for keepsake and for their next generation to have….Priceless information and History to share..<3<3<3

      Jennie/Florida on July 28, 2013 at 8:49 pm
    • Jennie I was thinking along though same lines. I think the new owner weather the winner or the one buying home from the winner would enjoy all that information. I know I would, but then I like knowing the history on the homes I get or live in.
Good Luck everyone and sweet dreams!

  5. looked at it all – very very pretty – calm – serene – LOVE the dining table! & love the swing outside the master bedrooom on the porch. has anyone seen the road that leads to this beautiful home. I looked & looked for a place for the car to get to the house. Is it a paved road? How far is it from the city of New Bern? Looked at New Bern on google & it showed 2 rivers there, So is that the ocean or one of the river inlets? I appreciate anyone that can give me any info. thanks

joplays on July 27, 2013 at 4:11 pm
    • If you look at the front views of the cabin in the TOUR, pan just a little right and you will se 3 or 4 trees on the right of the cabin, the driveway is between them and the tree line on the right of them, it leads out to Rt 70. Cabin location is in Atlantic NC not New Bern.

      540sam on July 27, 2013 at 4:55 pm
    • It's about 60 miles from New Bern. Google maps 448 Seashore Dr., Atlantic, NC. That will help you see where things are.;)

The water hand-pump was, originally, under the pecan trees among the daffodils (yellow flowers). That's what they show in the video. Dylan in the Q7A said it would be renovated and could be used for a dog bowl filler or a foot washing spigot near the outdoor shower. However, it's not visible in any images of the finished shower or nearby. Laurie March, House Counselor for DIY, has neatly sidestepped all questions about it's location so we can only hope it's still there somewhere.:);)

    • I viewed the doggie water resovoir and IT WAS NOT the water pump!:)

coolsmiley on July 27, 2013 at 9:45 pm
    • AnniesOwn http://www.diynetwork.com/blog-cabin/blog-cabin-2
this picture #43 shows water pump beside the cottage before they moved things around for the re-build.
Then the Video of the rebuilding the pump shows that it was moved under pecan tree among the daffodils.

      home_girl on July 27, 2013 at 11:13 pm
    • Thanks for correcting me on the original position of the hand pump. :$ The photo of it under the pecans isn't where it was finally moved to. I'm sure that was just for the photo shoot. It wasn't there during the construction and the daffodils were over by April.

Dylan said it would be situated near the shower, probably close to it's original position in photo #43 but it's certainly well hidden.;) I'm wondering whether the water supply is there but they hadn't put the pump back when the photos were taken, or maybe they are keeping it stored for safety. It would be easy to remove as a 'souvenir' by someone. They store things after the photo shoot so nothing that can be removed easily is left outside unattended.

    • sounds plausible!

coolsmiley on July 28, 2013 at 12:49 pm
    • Joplays, nice to see you back on the blog! I think several bloggers are being confused by the New Bern, NC link at the top of the page. The BC is located in Atlantic, NC AKA Crystal Coast, SOBX and part of Carteret County.
I use to travel to New Bern for a job I had several years ago every other month, so I feel like I know the drive and area very well. You spotted the Neuse and Trent Rivers. New Bern is inner-coastal, west of where the BC is located, and would probably be a good spot to evacuate to in case of a hurricane threatening the Blog Cabin. It's a charming town, and has a very famous author that lives there : Nicholas Sparks. He's written many books that have been made into blockbuster movies like the Notebook, Message in a Bottle, Nights in Rodanthe, The Lucky One, etc…. He writes about the NC Outer Banks (OBX), the amazing sunsets and the beauty of it's undeveloped two National Seashores. I've brought this up before on the blog about the OBX and Crystal Coast being very romantic, they are places that have certainly inspired Mr. Sparks to write some wonderful stories.

    • WOW Be still my heart…"the notebook" I wonder if he's here on the blog in avatar form :)

  7. I'm so excited about getting to tune in for the first BC show tomorrow @ 9:30pm on DIY !!
Josh & Grundy create the great room which is a space so beautiful and serene it could be on the cover of a Coastal magazine.
I'll also admit to initially rushing through the pictures of the BC without reading the captions. When I went back and read that Jason had planted Wax Myrtle I was thrilled. I don't think there is a more wonderfully fragrant evergreen shrub than Wax Myrtle and they mature into a wonderful hedge shrub.
As new bloggers are and will be joining us on the blog I wanted to put up another link to a nice weekend trip the winner might enjoy taking from the BC. Atlantic, NC being centrally located on the NC coast is a wonderful starting point to so many cool, historical, and unique vacation destinations. Visiting Nags Head Woods Preserve & Jockey's Ridge State Park would be just one of MANY must-go-see-attractions

  8. Have they said what the value of the prize is yet? It looks like there's a huge variation in property values in this county. We would be selling it so I hope it's a high value. Need the money more than a new house right now. Too many bills and not enough cash makes life hard.

    surewinner1 on July 28, 2013 at 1:44 pm
    • Amen brother/sista! I've heard evals range from 500k to 750k but remember they want federal taxes on the prize pretty quickly!! Also I don't know if they assist you in the sale!

coolsmiley on July 28, 2013 at 2:36 pm
    • There is no assistance with this Sweepstakes. Here, you enter to win the Blog Cabin and that is what you get if you win.

      Eugenia27 on July 28, 2013 at 7:10 pm
    • Eugenia27, I didn't know that. I figured out there were no vehicles (boat or car) and no cash.
After loving BC all these months I hoped to enter the drawing to win it, put our place here on the market and move out there. But after learning about the immediate & extraordinary tax payment, there is no way. (Also, I'm pretty sure selling our "shack-in the woods" + what little cash we could scrounge up would not have been close anyway)
That's when I began to ponder a cash alternative as a backup.
Rats, my BC bubble has burst all the way around.
I guess I won't be entering to win, just cheering everyone else on. But at least I had a little input on its outcome.
That's okay because I'm sure that the lucky person has a better plan than we do.
SO, entries begin tomorrow and good luck to you & everyone.

    • So sorry to burst your BC bubble…I thought u knew, now u understand why I say that could have been u getting sponsorship through Marc Cuban, I am in the same boat , that's why I am always trying to think of new ways to make a plan but the older u get seems the harder it is!! The value they released is lower than anticipated ( $462K) if that helps at all! Shows u how hard real estate has been hit IMHO if they bought the property for $500k!! God Help America!
