On the Eve of the Virtual Home Tour

Happy Friday, folks!

We launch the virtual home tour on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Excited? I think you will be stunned by the images and exclusive video we’ve captured.

In the meantime, I thought you’d enjoy a special treat: a second cinemagraph from visual designer Jason Kisner. Yes, the home has an outdoor shower — your vote! — and it’s clad in the home’s original shingles! How cool is that?

Also, I have some exciting news to share. We will be doing giveaways in this blog throughout the run of the tour and sweeps. The Blog Cabin 2013 Gimme Gimme Giveaway starts next Friday, July 19. First product up for grabs? Coasters handcrafted by project manager Dylan Eastman from the home’s original corner posts! Check the Made+Remade blog for the exclusive how-to (just in case you don’t win them). A rendering of the side yard (giveaway August 23), signed by Yard Crashers host Matt Blashaw, and a cornhole set (giveaway September 9), designed by Blog Cabin show host Chris Grundy, will also be given away.

Keep checking this blog for more details, rules and guidelines. Cheers!

  1. Eleven hours and 40 minutes…… countdown! @ Jennie, haven't been far. Just checking in but not posting. Been camping a lot but usually am connected. Excited to see the virtual tour tomorrow!

grammagail on July 15, 2013 at 9:27 pm
    • Trying to put Jennie to bed, but need to take my own advice, grammagail. I don't think any of us can wait.

Wind Chime Girl on July 15, 2013 at 11:27 pm
    • So around what time it will be posted? I thought I could wait until midnight to see it.

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 12:32 am
  2. So does anybody think that the tour pictures or videos will reveal the identity of the sea creature that is using the spit of water next to the new dock. Is that spit revenge for disturbing his or her nesting place? Tomorrow we find out, or maybe only the lucky winners will be witness to the revealing of the identity of potentially dangerous creature that is building a nest or possibly a hiding place from which to strike out at it's dinner from.

YankeeNuke on July 15, 2013 at 11:53 pm
    • What?

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 12:44 am
    • YankeeNuke has been building on a story concerning a couple giant eels making their home by the new dock. Who knows–fried eel filet may taste like chicken? o.0 :D Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 16, 2013 at 1:31 am
    • No Kitty, with the serenity of a place like this it can only be Puff the Magic Dragon.

      540sam on July 16, 2013 at 5:11 am
    • Sam and Kitty, you both make me laugh, but it's kinda of concerning since most of these water have been somewhat undisturbed for a while, then you have the shipwrecks and the national park, pretty near by. Swimming with eels, not something I'll be looking forward too.

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 9:52 am
    • If not I guess we have to go back to Core Ness.:D

      540sam on July 16, 2013 at 1:33 pm
    • We had sasquatch and a virtual party in maine, we needed something for the 2013 blog cabin, so I created the notion that there might be some sea creature making its home next to the pier. If you have been camping, these are similar to camp fire stories________________________________> From: > To: > Subject: havanera replied to your comment on On the Eve of the Virtual > Home Tour >

YankeeNuke on July 16, 2013 at 12:51 pm
    • Thank you, you ease my pain, but I don't doubt that those shipwrecks are full of those ugly looking creatures. With the sea current, there is no telling what's in those waters, even miles in.

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 2:50 pm
  3. Hi Girls, I'm not sleepy..How about some Sweet Potato pie topped with Pecans and Whip cream. Maybe have some fresh Green Tea or Hibiscus Herb tea…We have a few hours before the Virtual tour begins..We might as well stay up and wait for the beautiful Sunrise over the Sound^_^B)<3<3^_^:D:):p

    Jennie/Florida on July 15, 2013 at 11:59 pm
    • With a menu like that, it will keep you up for sure. I love the hibiscus tea, but I use the flower. Is it the same thing?

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 12:41 am
    • JENNIE!!! i SPEAK truth! I SAW ALL THE VIDEOS, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE, WITH LAURIE! <3 Somebody believe me and check it out, top of this DIY web page. Click on VIDEOS! It's very beautiful, Tight squeeze in spaces, like kitchen; didn't use hardly any antique furniture but is pretty, nevertheless. little use of dressers drawer storage, but a sight for sore eyes! LOVE it!!!<3<3<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 16, 2013 at 1:21 am
    • Hi Kitty, I took my long awaited Tour early this morning with Laurie. So well decorated and loved it but I'm missing a lot of the Antiques and furniture I loved so much from the Original Cottage…I think the only thing that wasn't shown this morning was the Laundry and Powder room by the kitchen area.
This is truly a beautiful Cottage and I hope a Blogging Winner will get to enjoy it for years to come .^_^<3B)
You said it Kitty, storage will be a problem especially for year round Homeowners!! I still think the Cottage and surroundings is a Wonderful place for entertaining, relaxing and enjoying your Family!
I have to mention that "I'm Sooooo Happy that Matt didn't install that Single Urinal that was voted on for the Master bathroom sink" LOL ^_^:);):p:DB)<3

      Jennie/Florida on July 16, 2013 at 8:59 am
    • Yeah, it was disappointing not to see all the beautiful pieces of furniture the original house had. As I watch the old videos, always said oh I wish the keep that, or oooh, I really like that. But am happy they kept the typewriter, something you have to explain to the younger generation of what is that? lol

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 9:31 am
    • Love the old typewriter too! Miss the antique furniture, particularly the chests of drawers, because I don't see storage spaces in abundance. I also miss the antique head/foot-boards. Otherwise, the cottage is delightful and somebody will be blessed to enjoy it! xD^_^:D<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 16, 2013 at 5:47 pm
    • Jennie, I wanted to jump through my 'puter an' strangle you, Girlfriend! You guys and gals were driving me nuts! I mean–am I the 1st adventuresome person to check for videos on the Video Button Link??? You all were frothing at the mouth to see the final results when I was telling you they were there already…but NO…nobody would go look! Tuesday, July 16th began on MY clock at exactly 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time and I was READY!!! Too FUNNY! You made yourself suffer several more waiting hours! Well, at least you had pie and tea. Oh well. LOL! xD:p:*B)<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 16, 2013 at 5:42 pm
    • Right you are again Kittty. Now everyone can see why they didn't have more bedrooms as some people wanted, they would have had to sacrifice other rooms to make the adjustments. It is what it is, a beautiful little cottage on the water.

      540sam on July 16, 2013 at 9:24 am
    • <3 A delightful piece of paradise. I'm missing the antiques, I guess, because I'm getting to be one, myself. I think your description, "…a beautiful little cottage on the water" is perfectomundo, 540Sam!!!
      ^_^xD^_^<3 Kitty

    • been watching Kitty, but the sound isn't working. Maybe just my 'puter.

      vicki_in_Utah on July 16, 2013 at 8:13 am
    • Yes, I had problems with the sound on the first video, and couple of the other ones, also freeze a lot.

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 9:36 am
    • If you win, that little freeze might feel handy on a really warm Summer day…in Atlantic, NC! ;) :p^_^<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 16, 2013 at 5:21 pm
    • Ah…the sound of silence! But such loveliness to behold!xD:p^_^<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 16, 2013 at 5:18 pm
    • My dear friend Kitty, You are Sooo funny LOL^_^….I was just trying to make the best out of a stressful situation.:) You know that eating some good old Southern Sweet potato Pie will take the stress away and fresh Tea will calm ones nerves o.0o.0 lol…I didn't see your "Big Find" in any comments late evening or early morning so We just decided to eat our way through the rest of the night til the morning Light^_^..I did see our Beautiful Little Cottage early this morning and was so happy the waiting is over…

I was thinking, again o.0 !!! Wouldn't it be nice if Mr. Eastman and Diy had a mystery closet for the Winner and when the Owner opened it, they would be surprised to find all hidden treasures that was left in the Cottage? Antique glass, all the glassware out of the China Cabinet, collections of the old books the Robinson Family had read over the years, all of the collectibles left in the Cottage for the new Owner!!
I would just love to have all those treasures if I were the lucky Winner^_^B)<3 Wouldn't You???:)^_^B)<3

      Jennie/Florida on July 16, 2013 at 6:39 pm
    • LOL! LOL! Jennie I could almost picture you, and YankeeNuke, 540sam, Havanera, Vicki, Tisha, who else was up after midnight, chompin' at the bit, getting hungry for your sweet potato pie and tea, with ya'll all posting blog notes back and forth about WHEN were you going to finally see the reveal? I was so frantic, running up and down MY keyboard, trying to figure out HOW to get one of you's attention that YES–you could already see everything! It was hillarious on my end: could I generate a mini pop on your computers? Could I make my face camera thingy work and appear on your screans–then you'd really be jumping up, alarmed ot of your wits. All I wanted was to help you all fulfill what you all wanted to do: see the dadgone videos! And I had to go to sleep with this sunken lonely feeling that only I, this lonely bloggie had actually seen the reveal just after midnight…so lonesome I could cry… and no Hank Williams with me to help me sing so either.:S=/o.0 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 17, 2013 at 12:00 am
    • Totally separate response about your closet idea. It is brilliant! Needed, Jennie, you're so right. I would have preferred using headboards, at least in guest bedroom. Dressers are really needed still. I would have loved to see the big wooded oval bread kneading bowl, plus several kitchen/dining items and china. I, like you, am ecstatic that Matt didn't use that awful urinal faucet for the master bath. The bath is lovely and spa-like. I don't dislike it–in fact it is quit beautiful–but it is totally contemporary. I really thought, when they gave us a claw-foot tub to vote upon, that sent a message that the ambiance was to remain antique beach get-away…Yes, Jennie, I so miss the antiques, those wonderful books, The old kitchen utensils… Your big closet idea is great!!! I do love the coffee and dinner tables, but feel the dinner table needed to add two more settings and that means 4 additional chairs.Hope both couches open into beds! Beautiful BC again and superb coordination and cohesive work! Bravo to ENTIRE TEAM!!! xDxD<3<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 17, 2013 at 12:27 am
    • Did anyone think it was strange that the porch swing outside master bedroom faced the wall instead of the view?? just saying, lol

coolsmiley on July 19, 2013 at 1:47 pm
    • If it was turned the other way it would bang the wall or window behind it and the rider's knees on the rail in front of it. That goes on EBay as soon as I move in.

Ishmael on July 20, 2013 at 2:29 am
    • LOL, I love those swings, just why didn't they install it on the other porch?? Put a wicker chair on the MB porch !!

coolsmiley on July 20, 2013 at 3:38 pm
  5. On sensory overload here, been watching the new vids since 3am. I can't believe how much was reclaimed from the old place, I know many of you were concerned about that, but it is everywhere and so tastefully done, from the reclaimed deck from the dock on the ceiling of the sun room to the neat storage drawers under the bed, wine cabnet, sliding doors, etc it's just everywhere. I also noticed the eleminated the 2 false beams in the L/R, I guess they read our blogs after all. And don't forget the fresnel light.

    540sam on July 16, 2013 at 5:17 am
  6. Does anyone know what the winner will have to pay in taxes on this property and house?

Deborah on July 16, 2013 at 6:20 am
    • I think it's 39.6%fed plus your local taxes on the total amount of value, from what I understand.

      540sam on July 16, 2013 at 7:43 am
  7. I got up at 5am MST and clicked on videos….and guess what the new videos for the BC are up and running. They are great. I love the inside.

    vicki_in_Utah on July 16, 2013 at 8:08 am
    • Omgoodness!!! I love, love, love this blog cabin!!! So beautiful, relaxing! Thanks to all, who put so much into it! I love the repurposed! I'll watch the videos a 1000 more times! Ok, more than that!!

  8. Now that's what I'm talking about… an outdoor shower to keep from tracking sand into that beautiful home. LOVE IT… and can't wait until 9am YIPPEEEEEE!

    mickeysgirl26 on July 16, 2013 at 8:52 am
  9. Lol, has anyone seen the fly yet? I actually thought it was on my screen! I was shooing it away! Bahahahaha!

Jtrox on July 16, 2013 at 8:56 am
    • Hi, WCG, I'm glad that you've been getting a good soaking rain!! I'm starting to dry out, which is good. I'm up early on this Virtual Tour day–headache–but I am waiting…. I'm so excited! You may be right, we're gonna bog down this site….but it will be so worth it!!

TishaStanley on July 16, 2013 at 9:50 am
    • Sorry about that…Anyway, Yes, I did see the fly…LOL thought it was my imagination…

At the very least I will really enjoy looking at the tour, pictures and video. Congratulations to all who worked so hard on this years home. It isdefinitely something to be proud of.

Susan on July 16, 2013 at 8:57 am
    • Susan, I don't know how old you are, but if you're over 62 you could do a reverse mortgage, that way you could keep it. Can you imagine all the beautiful family holidays and even summer get togethers???
It might be just the thing to bring my family together, have a few who have become dissatisfied with family life and it might help. I know I'm dreaming, but don't wake me up :-)

nanwes on July 16, 2013 at 9:03 am
    • sounds good but when times up on those reverse mortgages where u gonna go? :) or if you leave a spouse behind , then they're out in the cold!?
