On the Eve of the Virtual Home Tour

Happy Friday, folks!

We launch the virtual home tour on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Excited? I think you will be stunned by the images and exclusive video we’ve captured.

In the meantime, I thought you’d enjoy a special treat: a second cinemagraph from visual designer Jason Kisner. Yes, the home has an outdoor shower — your vote! — and it’s clad in the home’s original shingles! How cool is that?

Also, I have some exciting news to share. We will be doing giveaways in this blog throughout the run of the tour and sweeps. The Blog Cabin 2013 Gimme Gimme Giveaway starts next Friday, July 19. First product up for grabs? Coasters handcrafted by project manager Dylan Eastman from the home’s original corner posts! Check the Made+Remade blog for the exclusive how-to (just in case you don’t win them). A rendering of the side yard (giveaway August 23), signed by Yard Crashers host Matt Blashaw, and a cornhole set (giveaway September 9), designed by Blog Cabin show host Chris Grundy, will also be given away.

Keep checking this blog for more details, rules and guidelines. Cheers!

  9. Just LOVE it ALL!!! Especially how the wind has the beautiful towel beating to its own drumbeat, along with the tree branch shadow rhythms' accompaniment–I can just hear that Beach Music!!! What a cool idea to have signed give-aways for us hard-working Bloggies!!! :D I can get into that! Can you all??? :D <3 Love, love the rustic shingle shower…. Anxious to confirm suspicion that DIY rightly used the REAL FRESNEL that most of us Bloggies felt was appropriate for this place! I definitely know that our concept to open up the kitchen was heard and followed~~HOORAY!!! What a Heavenly work Team!!! This BC is so sweet! I can think of Bloggies who REALLY NEED to win this place–REALLY BADLY! No, they don't complain that they're homeless and haven't found work for close to 3 years, nor will they ever tell anyone, but I know who they are and I pray for something wonderful to happen for they deserve it and a new beginning…Dear God You know.!!! Please bless them with a hope and a future, I ask, in Jesus' Name ~~ and may all my other phenomenally supportive friends understand, that I made this decision to support this family because, I believe There's some reason that I even don't understand behind it , and I'm just going to trust, love everyone equally, but I must honor this pull in my heart on behalf of who has been lain on my heart. May it turn out Your Will dear God~~Your Will alone and for the sake of Your Name Only! Amen,,,,<3<3<3 Kitty

    • Nice one Kitty & you know he will help the people you speak of.

Angelways on July 13, 2013 at 7:34 am
    • Thank you, Angelways! There are several who are in need, on this blog–I wish I could reach out likewise, to each one, but the reality is, my heart remains most burdened for the specific family/Bloggie I have mentioned. Oh, If I were wealthy and could jump in there and do for many families, I would! Even if a Bloggie wins this gorgeous place, they will have to get sufficient cash to meet the taxes and high insurance and flood and disaster/wind damage insurance bills too. I would imagine that work opportunities are scarce in that region. Perhaps education, medical arena, some labor, not sure about fishing. Pickings are slim for work…. But I really hope someone in particular wins, for they need the blessing tremendously badly—and it is not that other dear Bloggie Friends don't–or that I don't have loving compassion for them too. I've experienced the depth and breadth of what this person and family have been through and they are deeply suffering, keeping their humor as they can, staying generous towards others, not complaining, never begging, always reaching out to touch other lives, unselfishly so—yes, it is they who should win. IMHO–YES! And if I'm mistaken–I surely have been plenty of times in my lifetime… God will give the award to the correct winner.

And the new site has been selected, according to Laurie's post, a couple days ago… Wonder where that will be??? Any guesses??? I'd like Cape Cod. Historic, waterfront, easy access (well, to me :D ). Yes, many would prefer inland– lets get some ideas going?! Who's going to be closest to the actual place? Let's do it! B):D:p<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 13, 2013 at 7:56 pm
    • Kitty–You are such a thoughtful person!!! There are many people who could/would benefit from this beautiful place!!! I, myself, could…my house is falling down around me….but I pray that the person who wins this, needs it more than we do…and that they will remember all of us bloggies for the beach party…LOL.

TishaStanley on July 14, 2013 at 9:13 am
    • Tisha you and Havanera are right and we have SO many in real need of a home that isn't falling apart–or a home even! When it comes to the point, the way our economy has been mismanaged, IMHO, the system has put more people into dire circumstances, more small businesses to the point where they cannot afford to hire the help they really need, and there are more families hungry and hurting. The standard for winning the gorgeous Blog Cabin or other Scripps Network homes is so high, because the home cost itself is high, so the tax and monetary transfer costs are too huge for most people and sale is the only solution…. Scripps' TV Networks uses these beautiful homes as sets for their TV shows, so they make their income from building and giving each home away. I personally believe the only background checking they do is a general, criminal type one, for they would not want to later be be discovered that they had placed a criminal abuser next door to a neighborhood family with children. That makes sense. I do believe that the Scripps Group is compassionate and isn't specifically trying to weed out lower income folks. The dilemma remains, no matter what. My home needs lots of major repairs, but I am provided for and, while I would love to win this BC beauty, I can think of MANY Bloggies I would jump around for joy like a kangaroo, if they won. I KNOW many Bloggies really NEED a new home! This would be an answer to prayer for them. I would SO rejoice WITH them, including YOU BOTH!!! I did specifically mention one Bloggie for whom I am very burdened. That person is an example of cross-country AMERICAN SPIRIT. Educated–and because of it, has lost a job, with this government. Family split up because can no more afford housing. There is some remedial help, ironically for the more poor in our land. Not them ~~ if one doesn't fit in the little square boxes, too bad, so sad, no help, bye-bye-you tried, so sad, just wait, one day, maybe later, things will change, but now, just hang and be, one day, you'll be noticed, and just maybe an employee, have a home again, just in time to start being a moneyless retiree… By then, too old to be hired over a new crop of grads, more sore 'cause the body begins to show its age, lost time cause one wasn't able to work while one could, cause the economy was so messed with, that one was stuck by default in the mismanaged decisions made by others, that got one caught in this crazy spiral to begin with. Sorry, everyone, There are, no doubt many of you Bloggies caught in this same situation I'm trying to describe, but I personally know the tale of one, who has been caught in this economic quicksand for over 3 years. It is just a matter of opinion on my part and doesn't mean that I love any of you guys and gals less. Homeless for over 3 years and family split speaks to me.. I Just want a dear Bloggie to win and root for ALL of you–and may you be able to make your win profitable!!!. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 14, 2013 at 5:06 pm
    • Kitty, you hit the nail on the head with that little square boxes comment. And the sad truth is that the people that are abusing the system, are doing so because they know the system in/out but for those that really need the help but is not familiar on how it works; you get kicked to the road. Nothing is more painful that needing the help and be turned down everywhere you go because you don't fit in that old measurement system. What's driving a lot of families now days into poverty or middle class families loose that status, is very different than years ago.

havanera on July 14, 2013 at 9:02 pm
    • My passion, Havanera! I cry and cringe for the tears and pain of those falling through the cracks of our society…. Like you said, some people know what to say and do–even lie to get extra aid, when they can do something about their plight. Others are really TRYING but turned down, whether from prejudice of they're "too old" or the little square boxes… Oooo! really get worked up on that, because I know people who want to contribute what they can to the world but aren't allowed…grrrr! It IS worse than years ago, I think. And why are we supposed to always separate ourselves by ethnic group in America? Wouldn't it bring us better as ONE Nation if we stopped dividing us by having to list our ethnic background? When I say mine is Brazilian, they say, but you don't look it. And I say, what does an American supposed to look like? Divide. Divide. Not positive. We are people made by God for a good purpose and created equal. Then treat us equal. Animals with different color spots get treated better often here, than people with different shades of skin or hair curl. Ah. Let a round peg fit in the square DIY hole win BC this time? Please?!!!xD:p^_^<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on July 14, 2013 at 10:19 pm
    • Grinch doesn't like one who believes all are created equal by God. I must have struck a nerve. Sorry! It's OK. God knows… I just expressed my own personal opinion, because I hope, bottom line, a Bloggie will have an equal chance—and will be the winner this time. :D Many Blessings!^_^<3 Kitty

    • Hey girls & guys, there is a troll coming through here giving the thumbs down, don't let it get to you, just consider the source.
And havanera, glad to have you here. I told you before you would be welcome. See there?
P.S. I've seen some entries from a "jimmy". I think it would be best to ignore all that.

    • Thanks Wind Chime Girl for taking your stand! Don't know if it's a "Jimmy" or another, but like I said, God knows and when newer folks, like Havanera get hit I not likeeee at all! I'm an ol' 62 yr old retiree and I'm not here to win any popularity contests. I say what I mean and mean what I say. Thank you hugs going out your way and special good luck wishes too! :D B)^_^<3 Kitty

    • Thank you Wind Chime Girl, and all of you that gave me such a warm welcome. Sorry, I didn't reply to those messages last week, I'm getting ready to go back to college, and after so many years, what a turbulence. But I'm happy to be here with you'll.
Wind Chime Girl, I thought I saw you and Eugenia27 @ the DH' I do miss BEE, she also a kind soul.

havanera on July 16, 2013 at 12:26 am
    • havanera, I'm so glad you have staked a claim here with us. Don't worry about not replying, many times we can't get back for a while and I'm one of them, so don't be offended at any of us for not replying soon – or at all. Sometime I can't get back for weeks.
You go back to school and get that degree, there are others here that have done, like Tisha for example, and Trish?
I looked at the DH, but never commented, Eugenia may have. I never felt comfortable until I came to the BC blog.

Wind Chime Girl on July 16, 2013 at 9:53 pm
    • I, also visited the DH Blog–but never felt at home there. This always has been a special place, with some great people. We have, many of us, and I can genuinely say it–we're like family! I also, like the ambiance of the Blog Cabin concept, even though the prize is smaller, no cash comes with it, nor a car. Those would be wonderful, especially the cash would go a ways to help towards the advance taxes…but the BC has something emotional that tugs at my heart. I really like the team part of the show! It's amazing to see people come together and work cohesively to build and design something so beautiful, and not be undermining other designers work but the together one for all and all for one spirit–that is what I admire here, don't you? xD^_^<3 Kitty

    • Hi Kitty,
One again DIY has done a nice job!. Like the size of this house as it isn't too large. .What a beautiful home and property for one lucky family to enjoy! (Hope a blogger wins it.) Would have been nice if it came with a cash gift to help with the taxes. Maybe they will keep that in mind for the next one? Enjoyed your heartfelt posts. Hope all is well with you and yours.

    • You nailed it Kitty. DH & SH were over the top, BC is a home. The people here are friendly and can talk over issues without getting beat up. It is wonderful to be a part of it even knowing I'll never win it, it just feels good.
I've only been able to check out a tiny bit of the reveal, been busy, been raining! (no internet service), so I can stretch it all out and really pour over the videos.

Wind Chime Girl on July 17, 2013 at 11:03 am
    • Blessing to all of you for caring, for your selfishness. People need to understand that this is a reality in our current times. Most people have economical needs and some are going through pretty rough situations. But support, instead of criticism, means a lot; they're already having a hard time.
During the 2013 Dream Home, we heard of several of families going through the same situation as the family above; the difference was that on the blog, other people started to criticize them for telling their problems. I got so discussed by it, I started firing back. I, myself went through a situation like that after being in a pretty good place. The truth is that you never know when it can happen to you, and it happens so fast that is hard to see it coming, and your life as you know it, flushed down the toilet. The worst part that it starts a domino effect that emotionally, and mentally brakes you and enables you. Words like hope or faith might be in your vocabulary but lifeless in your heart.

havanera on July 14, 2013 at 1:01 pm
    • By the way, this is exactly the reason why I commented last week on the blog; that Scripps Network, really needs to let God choose the winner and stop manipulating the giveaway. The background check, and other rules are proofs that they're looking for a good story and for someone that will satisfy the sponsors.

Poverty, homelessness and hungry children is a harsh reality in this country. It might not be a good story but as we say in Spanish (we need to stop covering the sun with one finger), and take steps towards a solution in solving this issue rather than seeing the elephant in the room and trying to ignore it.

havanera on July 14, 2013 at 1:48 pm
    • I like that saying. could you post it in Spanish? (I'm glad you gave us the translation first) I find that those kind of sayings have a beautiful, musical cadence to them, that is sometimes lost in translation. Thanks.

      Eugenia27 on July 14, 2013 at 6:43 pm
    • "Cover the sun with one finger" Tapar el sol con un dedo.
I tried looking for old sayings and Chinese proverbs to see if there was a different way to say it in English, as it often happens, but I couldn't find anything. There is so much wisdom in old sayings; I'm so sad that is disappearing with the new generation.

havanera on July 14, 2013 at 8:34 pm
    • You're right Havanera! So many great sayings disappearing… Kind of like the old American one that's nearly forgotten, "can't see the forest for the trees." More than the sayings, though, we need to see better action and not just word-service. Too many hurting people….:|<3<3<3 Kitty

The Special Designers, Mr Eastman and Diy Team, Contractors and Crew that lavished their talents upon this great build..They did an outstanding job and the build was A1 Quality workmanship and great Performance from the Andrew Roby group…They all were outstanding!!
Here We are in the middle of July with No "H's"((shudder)) and thank the Good Lord above for that! I hope we can get through the end of November without any…I just hope Our Little Cottage won't be tested this first year with anymore bad storms and or a big "H"…:)^_^:pB)<3<3

I recognized your passion at once and told you so, a couple of times. • Thank you WCG, I have enjoyed your comments and your sense of humor. You too have a good heart. We are so glad you have joined us this year. I was watching the weather this evening and thought of you and wondered if your area in Texas is flooding….Extreme weather in Texas with the Heat and droughts, now with all the torrential rains and floods..Usually when so much rain comes at once it just runs off and doesn't have time to soak in….I hope You and Your family are safe..I do hope You are getting some much needed rain…Take care and let us know your weather situation!!

WCG, It won't be long now, I can't wait to see inside the Cottage and I'm anxiously waiting to see all the People's Choice that we voted on, plus I'm looking forward to seeing all the Antiques they saved to display in "Our Little Cottage" I loved all those Antiques the Robinson's had collected over the years. The history in the home was totally amazing to me and I love the way they had the rooms decorated it to start with ^_^:):p B)<3.
I wonder how many Bloggers will be able to sleep tonight o.0 o.0 I'm not so sure I will get much sleep….Exciting day tomorrow.B)<3

I'll have to catch up on all the new videos and pics over the next few days. My ISP is satellite and slow.
I couldn't stay up long enough last night to catch the first, but I'm glad so many of you did. It shows the continued passion of all the lovers of BC. I loved the giddiness of us all last night, it was such fun!

    • Jennie, I know how concerned you were about DIY using much of the original cabin and reclaiming much of the history, but after viewing the videos I'm sure your concerns are put at rest as with many of us. DIY did excellent as everywhere you look, there is something there to remind you, I know I love it.

    • Awwwww, Havanera! Yes, I slept like a peaceful baby–after I saw the dreamy Blog Cabin videos!!! It was so funny, though– I could tell several Bloggies were up and "talking to each other on the Blog," talking about food and partying till tomorrow (today) and I was like, "WHAT?" It is 12:10 a.m. Eastern time and I have seen my Dream and NOBODY is looking at the VIDEO link or "getting it" on my posts and I'm saying to myself, "how do I get these Bloggies to stop jabbering and dreaming, TOMORROW, when TODAY has happened ALREADY?????o.0:p<3<3 Kitty
