  7. How I love to hear about your drinks and maybe fishing, reading a book or maybe wathching sunrize/sunset. May I join you. I am a unsweetened iced tea drinker and I would love to do any thing. Today first day of summer and I love it because of the longest daylight today. other than little hot where I see Atlantic getting some thundershowers for next few days. Odd as it seems when I check our weather here I check Atlantic n.c. weather. Makes me fiel close and again how many days to Christmas? 25 days to go-counting down and can't wait. Good Luck to everyone when sweepstakes begins- Oh happy dayxDxD

  9. There are things in life we know for certain, things we experience as families, generationally as life marches on. I have to say visiting the coast of NC is one of those things for me. Having made annual trips while growing up, and marrying into a NC coastal family 19 years ago, I've seen the way our coast has changed, and in deeply personally appreciated ways how it remains the same.
It's been a pleasure to watch DIY focus this blogs attention on the Crystal Coast. With the big reveal on July 19, and the BC shows beginning on July 29th I look forward to this blog really coming to life! Folks the reveal is going to be Awesome, and the setting for beach fun and historical activities couldn't be better!
Two points of Historical interest regarding the OBX
    1. Kill Devil Hills received it's name from the foul tasting rum that washed ashore after shipwrecks. Locals after sampling the rum, are said to have exclaimed, "this rum would Kill The Devil"
    2. Nags Head received it's name after the practice of tying a lantern to a horse (nag) and walking the beach in order to lure ships onto the shore for plundering. Blackbeard the Pirate must have been behind this scallywag practice.
Happy Weekend everybloggie. Hopefully we will get an update from Mary soon.

    • Mel, you are the Sherlock of this blog, thank you for another gem of information! The area indeed does have a fascinating history. I can only imagine the fun the lucky winner will have exploring.:DB)<3

    • Thanks Sandy.
On another note there was some big excitement on Thursday June 20th less than two miles off shore of Fort Macon, NC. Two canons were raised from Blackbeard the Pirate's sunken ship Queen Anne's Revenge.

Shiver me timbers, me love Pirate lore! Smartly waters of Carteret County ever tell thar tales of ole Blackbeard the Pirate

Mel on June 23, 2013 at 8:42 am
    • Wow, great article, thanks Mel! That is amazing that they are still salvaging wreckage from the Revenge. Have you happened to hear if any of the wreckage was ever recovered from the HMS Bounty replica ship that sank off the coast of NC during hurricane Sandy? My DH and I boarded that beautiful ship when she was briefly docked in Kenosha WI.

SID on June 23, 2013 at 10:56 am
    • Sandy I haven't heard anything about wreckage from the HMS Bounty replica being recovered, perhaps another blogger has. I recall seeing footage of the dramatic and brave rescue attempts for all aboard that ship, the captain though sadly being lost with the ship.
One never knows if the Ocean will be the final resting place for a ship and it's contents. The QAR having sunk in 1718, with two more of it's cannons being recovered in June 2013….historical treasures that will live on for generations to see. So perhaps there is hope for recovery for parts of the HMS Bounty replica too.

  10. Good Morning Everyone, I am Very sad and my Heart is broken. In the past week My kitty got sick and I lost My "Whiskers" last Monday. She developed a blood clot in her spine that caused paralysis in her back legs then everything shut down within 2 days and the Dr's couldn't save her. She was always so healthy and all of a sudden My baby was gone…I am so heart broken and lost without her!
I got her from the SPCA when she was a year old..She stole my heart when I first saw her sweet little face and when she stuck her paw out of the cage to touch me…She became my child and best buddy. For 13 yrs we had a wonderful time together…I loved her so very much and now my Heart is broken and my Home is so empty without her!
My Whiskers was a black and white long haired Tuxedo Beautiful, Very Smart and my Best Friend.<3
She would have been 14 yrs old this November!!!<3

    Jennie/Florida on June 22, 2013 at 10:02 am
    • Dear Jennie, I am so sorry. I know how much you loved and will miss your sweet friend and companion. Whiskers was a very lucky cat to have found such a good home and you gave her a wonderful life and even more importantly you gave your love. I know you already know it will take some time for your heart to heal. Our precious companion animals give so much love and add so much fun and laughter to our daily lives. When you are ready perhaps you will find another 'fur person' who needs you and will also blossom under your tender care. I'll be thinking of you today my friend, only wish I could dry your tears! Hugs,Sandy<3<3<3

    • I am so sorry Jennie, I know our pets become part of the family. I know how hard it is, But their memories are always with us…

      vicki_in_Utah on June 22, 2013 at 12:22 pm
    • Jennie, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I have two of my own and they are tearing up the house, and running me ragged, but, I wouldn't want to lose them. They aren't even a year old yet, so maybe they will calm down. Like Sandy said, give yourself some time and then head for the nearest shelter and pick yourself up a new furry critter. There are plenty out there who would love for you to be their new "mommy". I think Whiskers would like that too. He wouldn't want you to be lonesome. <3<3Boo

Boo on June 22, 2013 at 2:33 pm
    • Hi Boo! I'm glad you decided to adopt two, and while they may be double trouble right now I think your two clowns will settle down quite a bit in another year or so. DH and I adopted Max and Molly about a year ago. They used to chase each other across the back of the furniture and dive under everything they could jam themselves into-so funny! They still do that once or twice a day, but most of the time they just curl up together and wash each others faces. Often they both try to fit in my lap at the same time. They are wonderful company for each other and we don't feel so guilty when we have to go away for a day or two.:D<3

SID on June 23, 2013 at 10:35 am
    • Hi to you, Sandy, Yes, that's why I took two. I wanted them to have companionship while I was at work. Like your Max and Molly, my "baby boys" are hysterical to watch. They engage in a morning wrestling match after breakfast. First they try a number of holds, and then they try to eat each others face off. After that, they race around the living room, running into doors, hiding behind drapes, and generally arching their backs and looking indignant at one another. Sometimes you wonder how they keep from knocking themselves out! Then five minutes later, they are embracing each other in a mid-morning nap. Sure makes one understand how Jennie is missing her Whiskers. Have a great Sunday, Sandy. :D ^_^<3Boo

    • Oh, Jennie!! I am so sorry for the loss of Whiskers!!! 2 years ago, we lost our little kitty–she was 15, we buried her under my yellow rose bush because she loved to lie under it. At night, she would sleep on my head…we still miss her!!! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Tisha on June 22, 2013 at 3:51 pm
    • I'm so sorry for your loss of Whiskers. We lost our kitty-son "Buddy" last September. We buried him at his favorite spot. He had adopted us and always appreciated that we gave him a home. He was right there during any DIY project we did. He wasn't like a "Cat" He was our kitty-son. I have faith that God created Buddy just like he created us and one day we will be reunited.

    • Jennie I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pet Whiskers.
You shared some nice "Whiskers" stories in the past with the blog, I felt like I knew her just a bit myself, and could tell by what you wrote she was much loved by you. Hold on to those precious memories of your dear friend and know us bloggers who love our own pets dearly understand how you are feeling.

Mel on June 23, 2013 at 8:55 am
    • Jennie, Correction – I meant SHE wouldn't want you to be lonesome! <3Boo

Boo on June 23, 2013 at 11:01 am
    • So sorry for your loss, Jennie. Our loving pets are a part of the family. I miss my doggie so much. She was never a lap dog but, if I was feeling down, she would come and comfort me. I never felt alone when she was with me. She would listen and put up with me even when I was having a bad day. One time after a trip to the hospital, I got the best welcome home anyone could ever imagine. I fussed over her as if she was another one of my children. Try think of the good days Jennie. Just as with humans, love is a two way street.. perhaps in time you may have another companion. We are fortunate to be able to come on here and get away for a happy event for someone. It is nice to have the bloggers to share our sad times as well as our good times. May you find peace . my best to you .

Nan on June 23, 2013 at 8:40 pm
    • Jennie, I'm so sad for you and for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose our furry babies.
As others have advised, and I agree, do your grieving – then go out and adopt a new baby or 2.
I'm crying, now, remembering the ones I've had in my life. It's funny, there are no bad memories, only good ones. There's a lot of people you can't say that about . . .
I'll hug my two kitties a little harder tonight and we'll say a prayer for you and your Whiskers.
