  1. Good morning fellow bloggers!!! I hope all is well with you!! I am keeping Boston and Texas in my prayers!! Also, if you would kindly, send some prayers to a couple friends of mine, here in NY…one is on life support because his son beat him with a baseball bat, and the other is looking at serious prison time, she is definitely guilty, she just needs prayers to help her get through what she's done…Thank you.

  2. Hello Every Bloggie! This has been an up and down week for us all, no doubt! Sadness and tragedy in Boston and in Texas! We have Bloggies hurting too…. I'm posting something to try to brighten our view a bit… The "Virginian Pilot" Local News has a story today about the Outer Banks, Bodie Island Lighthouse, which has been refurbished and is going to be opened to the public. If you want to see a REAL FRESNEL –and find out what they cost, here you go!

    • I think DIY is glad that bloggers didn’t choose the Fresnel lamp.

      Eugenia27 on April 19, 2013 at 6:59 pm
    • Thank you for sharing!! It was beautiful, all the pictures, the land, Very nice!

    • Thank you for the pleasant news.

    • Kitty, when they had the voting for the coupla light, when you clicked on the "more information" tab it gave the name of the supplier, something litehouse antiques or whatever, I cant remember(no surprise there) I searched it and found the light(I think) and it was like $1200. Why that fresnel light wasn't picked is beyond me as all the other lighting fixture picked carried a nautical theme and the one chosen would have looked better over a pool table IMO.

  3. Kitty, it looks like you may be getting your top rail on the balcony! ;-)

    • YAY! Thanks for the heads up!xD^_^<3 Kitty

  4. I really hope they paint the railings on the balcony white, it just doesn't match the Coastal Beach Cottage look.

    rsl73 on April 19, 2013 at 3:39 pm
    • I think if they were going to paint the railing white, they would of done it before they put on the cables, imo, I was hoping they would be white also.

      vicki_in_Utah on April 19, 2013 at 4:10 pm
    • I agree with Vicki. The railing and the tension cables are taking shape, and starting to look pretty darn nice. If the railing was painted white, fingerprints would be so noticeable, because everyone would be holding it, or leaning on it. Pretty hard to paint those posts, with the tension cables intact. Have a spectacular day.

    • Builder I find the exterior architectural design of the BC Really Beautiful! The symmetry of the end gables, the french doors, several of the windows, even the placement of the cupola peak in relation to the upper balcony gable peak…Beautifully Symmetrical and pleasing to my eyes!
The wrap around front porch has a striking farmhouse charm and is in perfect harmony with the look of the original home. The upper balcony offers a wonderful raised view to the tranquil Core sound…What an Amazing space the architect provided with that balcony for the winner to enjoy!! I do appreciate that the wire cables leave the beautiful view unobstructed and probably do so at a reasonable cost. Being honest though, I do find the wire cables & brown railings out of sync with the rest of the exterior design that I LOVE so much! Bloggers have offered suggestions on how to add a bit of farmhouse charm back to the balcony surround. It should be an easy DIY project if the winner wants to soften or change the look.

    • rs173 I don't like those brown railings either, or the wire cables. I really believe the two porches will end up matching…that means we'll see those brown railings on the front porch too. White railings on both porches would look better.

Blogger 540Sam suggested on the last thread wrapping those posts in nautical rope. I really like that idea! Maybe that would work if the winner doesn't like the look of the current railings.

  5. It might just be my eyes, but it looks like fog is coming in at the BC. I am surprised that it hasn't been more foggy so far this spring.

  6. Hi to all my bloggie friends! My prayers go out to everyone who has been impacted by the events in MA and TX this week. It is almost like the 6 degrees of separation concept, since both have touched so many of us in one way or another. I lost heart in reading the blog, even.

I still think that TX ordeal could have been something more than an accident, including the threat in the mail to our President.

Here at home, my husband had two teeth surgically pulled, and is dealing with that this week and will have two more pulled next week. My dentist told me a few years ago that I was going to outlive my teeth. I remember saying, "I sure hope so!" But the reality is not so much fun! Also my dear 14-year-old Samoyed has laryngeal paralysis, and the veterinarian said he needs surgery. I checked online, and am trying Benadryl. He seems to have gotten some comfort from it.

It's hard to believe that so many are still getting snow or hail storms, living here in northeastern Florida, where it was 89 degrees today while I was working in the flower beds (still pulling weeds). I have tons of spider lily bulbs that had to be thinned out and now I have to plant. They are beautiful but very prolific!

I loved the choices today for the Cabin comforts, and I think the winner will be happy with any of them, though I really loved the garnet color of the throw. I chose the short round bee stool, for it looked wider and my feet are big ;=). I also chose the wooden chests, just because my grandchildren might keep toys in them (you could remove the wheels if they don't have a lock to hold them in place). As for the candle, I would be happy with any one of them! Until later, dear bloggers, hang on tight and take care, keep the dream!

  7. Good Evening to All, I had a very busy day and finally getting a chance to sit and relax…I see the Top rail is on the balcony but it doesn't look very wide, maybe They are adding a wider piece on top for resting elbows and drinks! :) I have to say it does look industrial, but if there is no other option at this point, those posts can be painted white and I thought to add Nautical and Beachy items like Shells, Starfish, Natural Seaweed and other little Nautical/Beachy items randomly hung on the wires… it might take the Eye away from the Glitz. It was just a thought!!…..Did I miss anything Exciting Today??? Any Surprises???
I Checked the weather for Cottage on Filming weekend–Tonight 73 and 90% chance of hard Rain, with Thunderstorms and winds 23 mph—.Saturday 70% chance of showers with winds 15 mph—Sunday–party cloudy w/winds up to 20 mph…So even though it will be raining, the Filming can still go on, but with the rain coming down, the BC Group will stay inside and when leaving will run to their cars and We will have a hard time recognizing them o.0:( Bummer!
I hope that won't be the case!!!;) Maybe Anitra and Guys will have their little Signs ready and after the filming, have Someone to run down and display them on the Grapevines and say Hi to the Bloggers!!! If Mary is there I hope She will Give Us a Wave Toooo!!!:p^_^:)

    Jennie/Florida on April 19, 2013 at 6:28 pm
    • Hi Jennie! I hope we do get to see some interesting things tomorrow and the rain and the cam don't interfere. It sucks when the cam acts up. I am like you, I just can't wait and don't want to miss anything! haha. I will be here with you blogging away. If I have to double dose my meds I am determined to be able to sit up and watch and blog!!! haha How have you been? Are you feeling better? How is the family doing? Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on April 19, 2013 at 6:59 pm
    • Yep,looks like 3 days of rain here.Wonder if they would run me off if I parked on the side of the road and watched the filming between showers.

TonyE on April 19, 2013 at 7:53 pm
    • Hi, Tony! Maybe if you parked as stated and walked up with a giant golf umbrella and volunteered to hold it over any DIY Expert Talent while they work and are filmed?;):p:D Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on April 19, 2013 at 8:24 pm
    • It would be an honor.

  8. Hi guys, how is everyone doing this afternoon? The water looks a little choppy at the BC. It is raining a bit. It is funny that even though it is cloudy and raining I would love to be there. It is just such a beautiful place. It is 76 degrees there now. When I looked earlier it was 81. Today was such a nice day. I wish we could see what was actually going on inside the home but I guess they have to leave some surprises for us. haha I am so waiting for 2 pm tomorrow to come so I can watch DIY filming. I hope we get to see some surprising things and not have the cam locking up. I am just dying to see what they are planning on putting in the house. Honestly they could leave it empty and I would be happy. Who could as for more? I love this beautiful home and property so much. I really hope the new owner can live there and not have to sell it. Until tomorrow guys! Much Love!! <3<3

  9. I wonder if the wood railing on the balcony has an oil based finish on it. How hard would it be to get a primer to stick to it so a person could paint them white? Maybe being an earth tone they are not noticeable when you are inside looking out. I will have to wait and see. For now I want to paint them.

DwnSoDwnEaster on April 19, 2013 at 8:27 pm
    • Kitty, the railings are made from a composite material, the same as the decking. This is made from plastics, sawdust and dye for coloring and put in a mould for casting, Unless it is an inferior grade (which I doubt) it will not do a lot of lightning over the years, same with the decking. You can paint it using the same prep etc. as wood as long as you use a good grade of marine deck paint ie. Interlux, and that ain't cheap. I think I may have 3 qts. in my shed I could sell to the winner.LOL

      540sam on April 20, 2013 at 7:20 am
    • Well, that just shoots me down! I had visions of the weather aging the wood to a soft gray……..and it would look fantastic……..;-)

      karenlin91 on April 20, 2013 at 7:42 am
    • That would help!:p;)<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on April 20, 2013 at 5:13 pm
    • Ditto for Me too Eugenia, that Rusty brown color just doesn't go with the siding or the Roof shingles!!o.0B):)

      Jennie/Florida on April 19, 2013 at 8:50 pm
    • I just had a thought. If the wood on the balcony doesn't have a finish on it, it will naturally go gray, with the weather, just like an old barn. By next year it will be a beautiful soft gray and fit in perfectly! (okay, with any luck that's how it will go…..;-)

      karenlin91 on April 19, 2013 at 10:32 pm
    • I like your idea about the wood turning grey in time then I read what 540sam wrote. :( :|

      Eugenia27 on April 20, 2013 at 4:36 pm
    • Sighhhh, right after I posted that, I read what 540sam wrote……;-(

  10. I hope that I'm home to watch the filming tomorrow, but if not, I will catch up…for now, I'm going to spend some time with my granddaughter, do a lot of praying, and thinking about my blogger friends and "OUR" cabin…Have a wonderful evening…oh, yeah, it's already raining here…
