  1. Hi guys! How is everyone doing today? It has been raining all day hear in DC as it has been on and off at the cabin. Even on a rainy day the BC is amazingly beautiful. I can't wait for the next update. Much Love!! <3<3

    • April showers, Bring May flowers. :) Rain is badly needed in most parts of the US. Agriculture needs rain to produce crops for food. Enjoy these rainy days. :)

Builder on April 12, 2013 at 2:17 pm
    • This is what I am singing, April is suppose to bring showers to bring May flowers, not April Snow kills my Fruit trees!.

      vicki_in_Utah on April 12, 2013 at 2:34 pm
    • I do love beautiful flowers and they have already started to bloom. Have a great weekend! Much Love!! <3<3

  2. I still keep getting the panorama view at the BC :S. I hope everyone stays safe and dry. It has been raining like crazy here in DC. Much Love!! <3<3

  3. great choices…I think that the slip-on shoe/deck slipper would be easier & more comfy to wear! And who doesn't need a foot brush to make those tootsies soft?!

woonan on April 12, 2013 at 2:30 pm
    • Hi Woonan! Yes they are very nice choices. I can't wait to see what is next. Have a great weekend. Much Love!! <3<3

  4. I see this huge & deadly Spring storm system has, finally, reached Atlantic. At least the rain is reasonably warm there . :) We've had 5 straight days of torrential rain, snow, thunder storms, thunder snow, two ice storms and persistent high winds with high temps about 37F. All local rivers have burst their banks and finding an unflooded route to work is becoming a considerable challenge. Think I'll work from home next week if this continues. What a horrible Spring so far. Makes me want to be back in NC ASAP.B)

When I could see the BC on the cam it appeared they had put in the roof runoff drain just in time. My guess is that there will be some sort of porous surface such as gravel or porous synthetic stone over the drain when the landscaping's finished. The new topsoil they used to cover the drain in front of the porch is already washing away in places. Grass will not work to hold thie soil together in this location with so much water coming off the roof. Meanwhile it's back to 'bog cabin'. ;)

Have a safe and dry weelkend one and all. I'm growing webbed feet and gills as a precaution. ^_^

Clive on April 12, 2013 at 4:39 pm
    • Batten down and stay safe Clive.

    • Here in the metropolitan portion of MN, we've had quite a bit of snow (the wet, heavy, heart attack kind) over the past few days. It has been a real challenge driving the truck around picking up donations, and yet I have averaged nearly 100 miles per day.

Here's hoping you're on high ground.

DGustaf on April 12, 2013 at 6:46 pm
    • Hi Clive, Can't believe the Weather You're having!! I Hope it gets better for you Soon!! I've never been in Thunder snow or Ice storms before, those has to be eerie!!!
I totally believe in Gutters, Downspouts and Rain Barrels..I wonder why Builders are so against them.
Looks to me they would solve a lot of problems during Heavy Duty Rain storms..I don't think the Cottage on the beach area has that much Snow, so the Gutters would have worked fine, I don't think they look bad either..It is, What it is, so I hope the Drain field will take care of all that water from the roof..
But does that mean with the gravel or the porous stone covering the Trench , nothing will grow in those areas? I noticed the Porch was soaked today from the rain..So that means You won't be able to sit on the Porch when it's raining and enjoy it and the view, plus furniture and all will be soaked during a Rainy Day !!:(:) I'm sure the Winner will Cope with all the Small stuff:p:) Such a Beautiful Place to enjoy Life with Family and Friends…Have A Good Evening!!!:)

      Jennie/Florida on April 12, 2013 at 7:21 pm
    • No matter how good the drainage, there will always be some standing water on a construction site, where there are vehicles driving everywhere. The ground gets compacted, and this cannot be prevented. Folks, just be patient. Things will get better and better as work progresses. Enjoy your day.

Oh, did everyone notice there is NO water standing in the ditch, by the second tree to the left of the dock? Previously, there was always water that stood in that location, even after light rains. Things are looking up. :) Once again, just take a deep breath, relax, and be patient. :)

Builder on April 13, 2013 at 10:38 am
    • Yes! I did notice that the ditch drained out….. I admire your patience with us. We will try to relax. I do recall the standing water when our house was being built…..easy to forget those things.

RLD on April 13, 2013 at 11:36 am
    • I kept checking the ditch and nope! no water! I think the drainage will be not an issue when things settle down…now the screen porch…………that could be an issue ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 12:06 pm
    • Yes I know Builder and I do have "Some" patience when it comes to the Blog Cabin lol, but I'm just bringing those things up as the Progress continues!! ;) I know at the end of this Journey the BC Cottage and Landscape will surely be a Showcase and a well built one…But if We don't bring up things in conversation and share our thoughts, What would we talk about?? LOL, I love to read other's comments because no one thinks alike and it's interesting to read what bloggers are thinking. Some have really good ideas that could be used!
That's why Diy calls it the "Blog" CabinI A few of us on the BC Blog have been Fans and Blogging Since 2007 First Blog Cabin in Tennessee..At that time Some suggestions were made by Bloggers during the Build and DIY read Our Comments and Diy changed the floor plans and used those ideas the Blogger had suggested..This is a Fun concept and We enjoy conversing back and forth with one another and I learn so much. I have made Blogging friends overs the years and value our friendship. I'm so glad You have joined us to give your Expertise Opinions and Explaining to Us what is going on so it makes sense..You truly have a gift, Thank you again Builder! :pB)

    • Overcast and misty, it's still a beautiful sunset at the blog cabin!!!! I'd take it if I won!!! :)
      Safe weekend everyone!

      Lia_M on April 12, 2013 at 7:34 pm
    • Wow Clive, guess I will stop complaining about the little snow we have gotten. We got just enough to kill off the blossoms on our fruit trees. Good luck.

      vicki_in_Utah on April 13, 2013 at 8:42 am
    • You have a great weekend too Clive! Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on April 13, 2013 at 9:15 am
    • Clive, sometimes I tell people I miss having real weather in Sacramento…….I take it back…..I don't want to have to deal with your weather! Webbed feet and gills sound like a good precaution to take '-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 12:08 pm
    • Oh, had to think about the webbed feet and gills for a minute. Oh —- Have never been to your part of the country. Gets real hot at times ,doesn't it ? So interesting to hear from all over the USA. ;) <3 Have a great evening everyone. Sorry to be a day late. Not always able to get on here.Best to all ;) <3

  5. Oh no rain, only a few hours, it should be out of here by 7pm . They called that one right on the money.xD
I have some very exciting news, they made the arrest in my bosses sons deadly hit n run today. It makes life a little better. Now getting back to the cabin, Clive you noticed a drain system, it surely puzzles me. Why don't they install a gutter system, they never did, to any of the the BC hmmmmmmm.Oh well they build them and we just sit on the sideline and cheer. Maybe a french drainage system will be used. ^_^

MaryPA on April 12, 2013 at 9:27 pm
    • I am glad they have found the person they believe was involved in the hit and run. If anything maybe it will give them some peace in knowing that justice will be done. Have a great weekend Mary. Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on April 13, 2013 at 9:13 am
  6. Good evening, Everyone!! I have been looking in on the BC, and it still looks wonderful. I have been voting on the Smart Home, but to be honest, I love the Cabin much more….I have lived in NC and Fl, and I love both states, but if I had to choose one, it would be North Carolina.

The rain we've been having has finally slowed and is almost completely gone away, on the bright side, my hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips are really coming up strong. My granddaughter wanted to plant some seeds for my flower garden, so we got the stuff we needed to start them inside, and the seeds, and wow, I've already had to put some of these into bigger pots. Hopefully, the weather will co operate, so that I can get these acclimated and put into the ground…which reminds me, I need to see if my lilacs are coming…

Have a wonderful and blessed evening…will chat more tomorrow. Good night, All!!

TishaStanley on April 12, 2013 at 11:53 pm

  7. Good morning all! Coffee's on, and two guys are there starting to work. And earlier there was a truck full of wrappings, etc…must have done a cleanup from inside. Much better weather today ;-) Hopefully they'll be working outside so we can see ;-)

    karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 8:46 am
    • Morning Karen! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on April 13, 2013 at 9:08 am
    • Thank you Rebecca, you have a wonderful weekend too. ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 11:30 am
    • Good Morn. Karen, I'm Ready for some Coffee and I will share my Fresh Apple Crumble with You and Everyone!!
I took a early walk around my property this morning and I was surprised to see my Wisteria has a few Spring leaves and had a small cluster bloom on it…a nice surprise and a Bee was already there having his nectar. That was a nice Spring Surprise ^_^ I'm ready for more activity outside. The only thing they would be doing at this time, I think would be to finish up the detail work on the Dock…After all the dirt they dumped in the yard, I still saw puddles everywhere, the water just isn't draining… I hope after Jason D/L and Matt Blashaw finishes the Landscaping, the standing water problem will be resolved;)
But did you see how wet the front porch was after the rain?? I don't think that was a good sign. The porch will get wet every time it rains and so will all the furniture including the Owner who is sitting out there on a rainy day to enjoy it…I wish they had put up gutters but that's not going to happen :( The only thing to help that situation is to put up a Screened Porch to somewhat prevent all the rain from coming in.:) Have a Good Day!:pB)

      Jennie/Florida on April 13, 2013 at 9:40 am
    • Good morning Jennie, and Karen and All–I had a late start this morning…Hope the coffee is still on, and the Fresh Apple Crumble sounds delicious!! I looked at the cam this morning, I also saw two guys working I noticed, too, that there is some water on the ground, but it didn't look like a lot, so maybe it's just slow to getting into the ground? I wish they had installed gutters, for obvious reasons, but also for maybe a rain barrel…still hoping for the screened in porch…

It has stopped raining, finally, here. I need to go out onto my sundeck and look through some of the things that were stored on it, see what can be thrown out and what I want to keep. I actually need to take my sun porch down, it's starting to rot by the windows and the stairs have now got a hole in the floor and I'm so afraid that someone will get hurt, so it's gotta go…in it's place my husband and I will put up a deck, so that I still can go out there and enjoy the sunshine.

      Have a wonderful day Everyone!!!

TishaStanley on April 13, 2013 at 10:58 am
    • Good morning Tisha, I like the rain barrel…way good idea! Sounds like you're going to have fun with the sun porch and new deck . It's going to be nice here today, I need to get out and do a lot of yard cleanup and maybe let Carl in on the idea of raised garden…let him get used to the idea ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 11:52 am
    • I will be doing a garden–vegetable–this year, too. I haven't started on the sunroom yet, still kind of chilly here…but I should get it started–just don't like working in the cold…..

TishaStanley on April 13, 2013 at 12:59 pm
    • Hi Tisha I mentioned to Clive a few days ago, That I wish they had used rain gutters and downspouts with rain barrels. The rain barrels are good for watering the potted plants in the yard and plants on the Patio…They probably would worked better than the water running off the roof down into the yard in a trench…Too much run off at one time seems to me, with a hard rain and I picture it splattering under the porch and everywhere as well…Not familiar with this system they are using. Guess I will have to wait and see!!;)
Sounds like you and Hubby have a big project ahead of you, let us know how it's going! We will cheer you on :p;):)^_^<3

      Jennie/Florida on April 13, 2013 at 7:31 pm
    • Good morning, Jennie, I'm ready for Fresh Apple Crumble! My wisteria is blooming too..I got the wrong kind, it puts out leaves first…..and after about 15 years and 3 moves, it finally bloomed well last year…not so much yet this year but I still have hope ;-) I missed seeing anything yesterday afternoon, when I looked the new dirt was holding up, although behind ( front, side, whatever) there were some standing puddles. About the porch, I'm thinking that maybe the sea breeze is going to blow rain onto the porch no matter what is done, but I personally like gutters to keep water from the roof from dumping wherever it wants. And there are, I think they're called rain chains, that channel the water to the ground Rather than a plain ole downspout, these are large chains, elaborate as you want, and they look really cool…..
I still want the screens too! And rain barrels could be a really cool thing to have too! ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 11:49 am
    • The Apple Crumble sounds really good! We're actually getting some snow here in SW Michigan this morning….don't expect it to accumulate, but it still detracts from what April is supposed to look like. Kinda wish we were back in Hawaii. Thanks everyone for holding down the fort while we were "away".

I suspect that the two guys we see working this morning are it for today….it being a Saturday. I'm hoping that they will be finishing the shingles along the sides of the second floor balcony and associated trim.

As for the Smart Home….as nice as that place is, I agree with the fellow bloggers who would take the cash option so they could pay the costs of winning the BC! If someone is lucky enough to win the Smart Home, they may have some luck left over to also win the BC…..

RLD on April 13, 2013 at 11:32 am
    • I imagine you are right about it only being the two guys today. I want to see them finish that 2nd floor balcony too, and I still think that is just plywood on the porch and at some point they'll be putting the decking down….Screened porch will probably not happen till almost the last, but hopefully it will too at some point ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 11:58 am
    • Count me in on the list to sell the smart home to afford the BC! No contest! ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 12:14 pm
    • Wow! Am I every wrong….this time big time! I just looked at the BC Cam and there are lots of people on-site, including a truck buried in plants.

RLD on April 13, 2013 at 12:49 pm
    • Ok….just zoomed in on the truck "buried in plants". Looks more like branches that have been trimmed from trees or bushes.

RLD on April 13, 2013 at 12:54 pm
    • The Smart Home has nothing on this beautiful Cabin!! Just a lot more stuff that during a power outage, could be rendered useless…I know there is backup power, but still I would take the cash option over that home. Besides, when I watched the t.v. show last night about the S/H, I didn't hear anything mentioned about hurricane strength windows…it probably has them but no one would know if it isn't mentioned. RLD–if you go back to Hawaii, PLEASE smuggle me into your suitcase–it's where I'm from originally…..LOL

TishaStanley on April 13, 2013 at 1:06 pm
    • I'll try to find room for you, Tisha! We had a great time…..1 week on Maui (Ka'anapali), 4 days on the Big Island (Kailua Kona), and 5 days on Oahu (Waikiki & N. Shore). I got some fantastic whale photos while on Maui (amen for telephoto lenses) and more fantastic photos of surfing at Sunset Beach on the N. Shore of Oahu. The surf was up! I'm already ready to go back!

RLD on April 13, 2013 at 5:23 pm
  8. Good morning everyone. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I did my voting and have been looking at the cam. Wow the house is just amazing. I love the pillars. It just looks so nice and peaceful there. Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on April 13, 2013 at 9:08 am
    • Hello, Rebecca, Hope your weekend is going well! There isn't anything wrong with the aesthetics of this home!!! I, like you, LOVE this home!! I can't wait to start voting to win–as well as everyone else–but the lucky winner just may have to put all of us others up for a while, cause we want to be there too…LOL

TishaStanley on April 13, 2013 at 1:09 pm
    • Hi Rebecca! Got back from camp on tuesday afternoon, had a great time! I saw that someone is working today at the cabin. I've been blogging this morning about trees that were cut down. Hope everything is well with you, much love WE-Z!;)<3

  9. Good morning Rebecca, Jennie, Kitty, Gremol, Clive and all my other dear bloggie buddies! Spring is in full swing here in AR, which means this old gal is spending all day in the yard rediscovering forgotten muscles and creaky joints. You gardeners all know exactly what I mean!;):S I can hardly wait to see what they do with the landscaping and dock, although they will probably turn off the live camera to save the surprise! I haven't had much time to spend here lately, but checked back at least once every day just to read all your posts. Thank you for keeping me up to date with progress at the beautiful cabin. :*<3<3<3

SID on April 13, 2013 at 10:38 am
    • Good Morning Sid, so glad You're OK! I was thinking of You when I saw those last Storms and Tornados go though Arkansas and Nebraska..I hope You missed the worst of it!
I know what you mean about forgotten Muscles and Creaky joints :p "I have those" lol, but they are not forgotten because I work in my yard All Year Round, so I deal with the "old creaky joints" all through the year!! Ouch! LOL o.0
Like you, I can't wait to see them finish the Dock. I'm sure Jason has some great plans for the Dock and the Landscaping. It will be Lovely, I'm sure!:):pB) Oh yes I agree with you, I think the Panorama Cam will be going like Crazy when Jason and D/L works on the yard and dock!! So Sad:( We want to see toooo! B)
      Take Care:p<3

      Jennie/Florida on April 13, 2013 at 11:40 am
    • Good morning SID, know what you mean about forgotten muscles and creaky joints, don't even want to think about knees. ;-) Where are you in AR? I was born in Batesville, still have lots of relatives there, and Mom has a cabin up by Concord. I miss seeing the redbud and dogwood this time of year there.

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 12:03 pm
    • Hi Karen, Batesville is a bit northeast of us. We live southwest of Little Rock, about 20 miles north of Hot Springs. It is indeed very pretty here now, the redbuds are at full bloom, the dogwood blossoms just starting to open. Have a great weekend!:D

SID on April 13, 2013 at 5:31 pm
    • Hi SID and ALL! I've been off the blog a lot lately, too much to do and going on. The sudden death of the Husband of a Couple of dear friends was a shock and we were at Memorial svc and dinner w/ family yesterday. AC's been out at home, right when temps began rising in VA and we reluctantly must replace the downstairs system. It's a big hit at $7 K –grrrrrr… but area covered is large so unit must accommodate and we're upping the SEER to highest available. I've just not been in the mood for blogging, sorry guys! Have checked in daily to vote, look at Cabin Cam and scan Blogs, plus get my entry into Smart Home. HARD WORK! :) Yard is aglow with color, Daffodills, Forsythias, purple hyacynths, encore azaleas in a sunset red almost ready to pop, Camelias still in full bloom, even as ground is covered with fallen petals! I have lots of planting to do in flower/window boxes, plus small garden plot. Hope I can get an energy boost for that and soon! :) Hope You and Every Bloggie are well! I'll check in when I can. Happy thoughts everyone!!!B)xD^_^<3 Kitty

  10. Well, there's all kind of activity going on now. Looks like someone's been doing a little yard work.

    • Boy! you weren't kidding! Where did they get all the brush?

      karenlin91 on April 13, 2013 at 12:32 pm
    • I guess so…and I predicted earlier this morning that the two guys on-site earlier would be the only ones there today! I have demonstrated my total lack of predictive power.

RLD on April 13, 2013 at 12:50 pm
    • There certainly is a lot of brush!! It kind of looks like the guys cleaned up the brush from where the daffodils were… I'm getting really excited about watching the outdoor work…hope we don't start panning…feels like we're getting ready for filming…Don't worry RLD, I have no predictive powers either…LOL
