  1. Hello again . Question for DIY, please. Looked on the DIY site, found TV shows. Kept going down to a space entered. SHOW: blog cabin KEYWORDS: project managers From: 03-01-2013 to 07-29-2013
Shows did come -up but they were for the 2012 MAINE cabin. the shows were on 3-29-2013 JoshTemple
House Crashers and kept going back with the listings to 3-20-2013 Scialabla Bros. on Dens.
Do we have to wait until next year to see this years cabin? I did see shows before, but do not rember what year the the cabin was. I entered last year but only started blogging this year. Hope to get an answer so that I can see these shows. Thank you DIY. I know you said Q & A will be later. Hope I can get a response. Thanks again. Nan ;)

    • Good question, Nan. Actually, since DIY hasn't filmed any of the special productions with the "PROS" on our 2013 Blog Cabin, they are airing repeats. Current BC is still under construction. Rest assured, the individual specials WILL be available-but only after the big REVEAL and, I think, during part of the time we will be entering the Sweeps to win this NC Beauty! :D I agree with you, it would be helpful if DIY Programming would be more accurate with the display/project promotion presentation dates. It doesn't hurt to say , "Josh Temple is Crashing Blog Cabin 2012, Maine, and you don't want to miss the fun–or whatever…You won't have to wait till next year, but, for this year's BC, we have to get to the projects and then TV Production Crews. After they are (finally viewed on TV, these should also get posted on DIY so we'll be ale to actually view the shows…but I'm getting ahead of myself here. Check the tabs at the top of your Blog Cabin Web Page for thing like, "Videos," "Main," "Full Episode" etc. later and from time to time and watch for announcements and changes. Good Luck to You! Nice having you on the Blog, Nan! :)
P.S. I think I just answered your next question too. Pick and shovel… Gotta do some digging, friend, tee hee!! xD;)<3 Kitty

  2. Happy Easter Everyone! Thanks, DIY, for the second spotlight to the right of the cabin, so we can see it better at night ;=). Here it is eight thirty at night and I could swear I saw a guy standing on the steps… then when I tried to zoom in, he was gone… crazy. So happy that you decided to leave our tree swings and daffodils. Can't wait to see the large steps on the front plus our wonderful screened porch and comfy swing (hope… hope)… it's really a beautiful place and will be spectacular when DIY finishes it!

  3. I hope everyone had a happy and safe Easter however you spent it.

I just want to send a huge shout out to the state troopers and emergency services in the Fancy Gap area on I-77 who did a fantastic job today with the horrific multi car accident. We were just a few minutes behind the crashes and were saved by the state troopers road flares. We went from clear sunny weather and miles of visibility to dense fog and less that 30ft visibility in about 5 seconds. Truly scary. So sorry for the loss of life and many injured.

    • Clive, truly grateful that you and yours are safe! What a sad thing, that pile-up–and yes! SO thankful to our 1st RESPONDERS who helped out your way and everywhere. It's a thankless job and very difficult plus dangerous for them too. God bless them!B)xD:D

Hope Every Bloggie had a very Wonderful Easter Weekend!!!<3<3<3 Kitty

    • Clive, I am so glad to hear that you were safe! I just heard of the terrible accident, and am saddened that there were three people who died and many injured. Prayers go out to all of those touched by this tragedy.

    • Glad you and your family are ok. Praying for those not as lucky. Hope everyone's Easter weekend was a good one!

JudyInMich on April 1, 2013 at 9:13 am
    • Good morning Clive. Yes, I have traveled that stretch of I-77 many times myself, and know it is temperamental, to say the least. I was so heart sad to see the terrible pile up of vehicles and to know that so many good souls were stranded on Easter, and that some even lost their lives in a split second. Our hearts and prayers go out to them and to their families. So sorry.

BrookwoodCarolina on April 1, 2013 at 9:15 am
    • Wow Clive, That had to be sooo Scary!!! I'm so glad You and Your family are safe and Thank God the State Troopers were there in time to alert drivers..I'm sorry to hear three people didn't make it and others were injuries .I saw it on the news and it looked like a BIG disaster..I've been on that road before and know how the fog can suddenly appear and it is really eerie..I really hope the rest of your trip goes well and You & family can Enjoy that beautiful area..Also Hope you catch a Lot of fish and Enjoy your Grilled Trout at the Inn..
Please be Careful and Have a Good Time!! :)

      Jennie/Florida on April 1, 2013 at 9:38 am
    • Thanks for good wishes everyone. We're fine but the kids are a little shaken as this was the second major accident we've just avoided in two days. We saw a truck flip and burst into flames less than half a mile ahead of us yesterday. Quite the eventful trip. Now for some R&R with family and then to 'annoy' a few trout. ;)

Clive on April 1, 2013 at 10:25 am
    • Have a good vacation Clive. Pray that the rest will be uneventful and safe. It was truly a tragedy for many.

  4. It's hard to believe it's April 1st! In a few short months the "coastal retreat blog cabin" has gone from plan to reality! She is looking good! I love the sunlight that shines in the windows. What a wonderful place this will be to call "Home". The DIY Team is doing a super job. Can't wait to see what they do this week. DIY Team, Please add some secure outdoor storage for tables, chairs, and the grill . Becky:)<3

  5. Clive, whatever caused you to have a few minutes delay be very thankful for it.

    540sam on April 1, 2013 at 3:53 am
    • Pit stop for the rest room was probably what saved us. I'm forever grateful for that large coffee :) . We had to detour via Mt Airy and Pilot Mtn to get back on I-77. The troopers were brave to be in the road stopping traffic in the fog and diverting us. We couldn't even see their red flares until we were nearly upon them. Thoughts go out to all involved, rescuers or rescued. It happened in just about the worst place possible on this stretch of road. Stunningly beautiful in clear weather and very treacherous at other times.

Clive on April 1, 2013 at 10:20 am
    • Glad for you. Well with your luck going like this you should catch plenty of brownies. Someone in New Zeland just caught on that was 41.1#.

  6. Fellow blogers, some have expressed concern over the construction of the dock and commented on it, including myself. The fact is, it is what it is. All docks require upkeep and maintaince constantly, the harsher the enviornment the more has to be done. There is no perfect way to construct a dock or bridge, just look at the shape our bridges are in this country. If you cant do it yourself, hire someone to inspect it and maintain it anually or after a storm. It will extend the life of any dock and give years of enjoyment. Just a thought.

    540sam on April 1, 2013 at 4:11 am
    • Thank you, you're right, DIY has been meticulous (sp) in the construction of everything, and the dock is no exception. Upkeep would be the best way to try and foil Mother Nature. ;-) (Trying not to consider the shape our bridges are in, okay?) ;-)

      karenlin91 on April 1, 2013 at 8:16 am
    • Good morning 540sam! We all want the dream, but the reality is that this dock is a temporary fixture and will need constant upkeep if it is to withstand the elements. I think you're right. If the new owner wants to install another dock, it may be a very expensive undertaking, indeed. I think that is why the bloggers had hoped for composite materials that should hold up for 25 years… but I guess even DIY couldn't swing it. I am just happy to see it being completed. Can just feel the worn wood on my bare feet now… just have to sand it… should be fine ;=).

BrookwoodCarolina on April 1, 2013 at 9:21 am
    • Composite decking would be a little smoother on the feet but the tradeoff would be getting a dock that is not as structurally sound. Splinters will happen but won't be a big factor because walking on the dock, you'll be going across the grain of the wood and don't pick up near as many splinters as when you go with the grain.

Ishmael on April 1, 2013 at 1:01 pm
    • Absolutely correct 540sam. It is what it is. I would have liked to see them use a more environmentally friendly construction method but I guess they didn't have such a concern. Maintenance is the key no matter what construction is used. It looks like they will keep the pier to a really simple design, probably no roof either, which will mean less maintenaance and less to damage in high winds. The winner will be able to enjoy it and, hopefully, it will survive for a number of years.

PeterNC on April 1, 2013 at 10:09 am
  7. Good Morning! I hope I am wrong or confused, but I think we are not getting the composite decking for the dock. I see what appears to be raw lumber already laid on the ramp. Oh well, I quess Jennie, Kitty, Rebecca, Tisha, and all of us will have to wear flip flops so we don't get splinters on our feet. :-) It will still be lovely! :-)

Heading South on April 1, 2013 at 8:14 am
    • Good Morning! Glad to see the work–curious about the pressure treated lumber and the ramp–everything is a work in progress so I guess we have to hide and watch as they say…. I hope the ramp will hold up at least 10 years for the lucky winner. Composite would have been nice, but maybe they couldn't swing it, who knows? What we see mainly in all the state parks and nice hotels is composite near the ocean. I only have porcelain tiles and concrete where I live–no decks–so I am learning as I watch this evolve. Hope you had a Happy Easter;=).

BrookwoodCarolina on April 1, 2013 at 9:12 am
    • Good Morning H/S, I don't know much about decking but wouldn't they run that material through a machine to give it a smooth finish…If not, We will just have to put on our footwear to prevent splinters!! o.0o.0:p..
You know what H/S??? We would be Sooo excited to be there, I don't think We would even feel those splinters :p;):DB)…At the end of the dock, I hope they have seating area so all of Us Girls can sit and take in the Beautiful Views and Enjoy Our tall glass of Ice Tea!!!!:*:p<3B) Sounds Good to Me!!!
      Have a Good Day:p<3B)

      Jennie/Florida on April 1, 2013 at 10:18 am
    • Good Morning Jennie! :-) I'm with you and will just wear flip flops and yes we would be so so happy and excited that we would not feel those splinters. :-) . The dock is beautiful! no matter what materials they use. DIY did a great job…..again!!!! ……April 2nd and we just woke up to a layer of white snow! Heard the plow trucks going down the road salting at 4 am. and I knew everything would be white again this morning….. :-) With the sunshine atop the snow ….the glory of God is revealed in the sparkling diamonds across the white fields. :-)

    • Good Morning H/S, I know the Snow is so Beautiful, especially when the Sun is shining on it. B)
I would love to be there to enjoy it for a "day or two" and then I'm over it! LOL..I guess that goes with age! I haven't been in Snow in years, but always love the Freshness it brings and how much energy I feel…My Snow Days were in the Mountains of North Carolina and was a yearly vacation
in the Winter, to enjoy Skiing, Snowmobiling and playing in the snow, but haven't been in a few years…Fall is my favorite time of year in NC, so I have to choose one or the other and Fall Season wins hands down! <3<3
I can't wait to see what they are adding on the Dock!!! I wonder why they aren't finishing the siding on the Second floor and the porch post…Seems like they're in no hurry to get it done…I wonder what they are waiting on!?? Maybe they are ahead of schedule and slowing things down, but that doesn't help us who are so anxiously waiting for anything, crew activity, a water sprinkler, LOL!!
I guess I'm just too eager to see progress being made o.0<3B) Patience, Patience, Jennie..LOL Have a good Day!!!:p

      Jennie/Florida on April 2, 2013 at 11:21 am
    • Jennie I was also wondering about the second floor and the porch post. I think you are right and they are just ahead of themseleves in schdeule. I am sure they are going to eicase the post, but then maybe not. A cam inside would be great, and we would not get in their way :-) hopefully we will see that soon. Have a Great Day! in the sunshine! :-)

    • Good morning Tisha! Hope you had a good weekend. I see they are working on the dock and have brought a new furry friend. Looks like a yellow lab. :D Judy

JudyInMich on April 1, 2013 at 9:16 am
    • Good Morning, to you Judy…I did have a great weekend, it's only today that will be rough for me…I did notice the yellow lab-that's what I thought of him, too-I guess everyone needs a great supervisor!

TishaStanley on April 1, 2013 at 10:17 am
    • Tisha, Do you still have the coffee going? I'm just a little late getting going today. Hope everyone had a safe, nice Easter. Here in southern Maine it is 57 degrees. Spring has sprung! We still have some snow on the ground, but it is patchy. The dock looks marvelous. The carpenter is moving right along! Can't wait to see this beauty completed! Oh the fun a person could have swimming, fishing, boating from the dock! Becky^_^<3

bythebaydreamer on April 1, 2013 at 1:58 pm
    • Becky, I have the coffee on all day, as well as Iced Tea, HOt Tea, and whatever else you may wish to drink…LOL . The snow is pretty much gone but we have had some flurries–thankfully not staying. My flowers are starting to come up…YAY!!!

TishaStanley on April 1, 2013 at 6:25 pm
  9. I, too, am happy to see that work is being done on the dock this morning. H.S. I will wear flip flops to prevent splinters, but maybe the workers will put something on the dock to help us prevent that anyway???
