  1. Wow, it's looking like an enclosed cabin, windows and all. Cabin comforts….just give me a porch swing and a tall glass of iced tea and I'm a happy camper.

  3. Hi Bloggers, DIY team, and construction crew, the open floor plan looks great. I'm glad to see the grade is being raised around the house. Have a nice holiday.

    • Oh Kitty I sure hope you're right about that kitchen wall or at least it will be a half wall! It does look like the portion the photo shows is a little bit past where the kitchen wall would be. :p<3

    • One can hope… they listened to us.

    • Kitty, I think the revised floor plan shows from the kitchen area all the way to the foyer area open with only two ceiling beams doesn't it? Or did I misread it? Sam

      540sam on March 29, 2013 at 1:29 pm
    • Dear 540sam, Looks open to me, with a measure of the upper light coming down the stairs and left of living/dining. Not sure how the divide with kitchen will work–hoping for downdraft stove, so no view obstructions. The thin-looking panel/divider, at this point is a bit befuddling, but I'm sure it will work its way into the layout. I had pictured that part as a longish wave or boomerang-shaped bar/divider, with storage to Kitchen underneath and seating on dining side. We'll see… :) ;)xD<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on March 29, 2013 at 2:01 pm
    • With respect I don't think they changed anything. The part of the house that we can see in the picture looks exactly like they had in the redesigned house drawings. It's shown as open to the South from the kitchen & stairs and just a short wall on the side of the kitchen facing the stairs. Nothing's changed that I can see. What are you seeing that I'm missing? :)

AnniesOwn on March 29, 2013 at 2:14 pm
    • If I recall correctly the original kitchen layout plan, Annie, the kitchen was walled fully on the stair central hall side up to the ceiling. I believe they had positioned the fridge against that wall , then some counter space, a direct 45 degree turn to make the kitchen basically a "U" shape, with the stove at the back wall facing away from the waterfront. I had suggested they use a downdraft stove, open the side of kitchen towards the entrance/foyer/stairs and hallway with cupola half way up, to make the house look more open and flow "larger," and let some of that cupola light down into the kitchen so it wouldn't seem so buried back inward and darkish. Along that suggestion line, I proposed a swap in positions and/or slight moving of some kitchen appliances to better accommodate this change, also elongate the breakfast bar/divider and give it more storage below and perhaps give it a wave-like or "boomerang" form, so the walk-flow around it would work more smoothly…. Make the kitchen sink a corner sink instead of against the wall and bring dishwasher closer to increase counters and workspace–thus, allowing two to work freely together in that space with a better flow. I also suggested making the Washer/dryer system upright, so the area allotted for one of them previously as side by side, could be converted to a storage/pantry/ or linens for swimming, as desired by resident; and, asked if they would please put in a drop ironing board in that laundry mudroom area, due to limited storage and usage area. Obviously, these were just ideas /suggestions i shared and there's no way to know whether any portion were picked up, but I couldn't help but think that, hey, looks like we may just have a more open kitchen–and that, to me, seems good. If what I've just said is redundant, please forgive me. It has been some time since any of this has been mentioned; I got excited when Dylan's new CAD design was presented that seemed to show a half wall between the kitchen an inner hallway–but it appears to be a done deal, based upon the corner of the photo we have been given today. I appreciate your asking, Annie, and You are right in that we can't see a good portion. Take a look at the last interior design video we were given and see if that wall doesn't look like a half one to you. I forget which thread it's under–maybe in the past 2-3 threads, and let me know what you're thinking… thanks! :D xD<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on March 29, 2013 at 6:20 pm
    • You're mostly right. The kitchen wall closest to the stairs extended only as far as the bottom step, it didn't go all the way to the bearing wall. What has changed is that there were two columns shown under the bearing wall – one aligned with that kitchen wall and one aligned with the other side of the hallway leading to the master bedroom. Those columns would be on either side of that pile of lumber which may be the flooring material.

Ishmael on March 30, 2013 at 1:59 am
    • It was mentioned somewhere that tose two columns were just for show (non support ) so they could still be in the plan.

zulumom on March 30, 2013 at 5:10 am
    • I hadn't seen that and don't see the value in "decorative" columns that break up space unless they're thinking it adds to a vintage look of short spans. I'm with SID on leaving thm out.

Ishmael on March 30, 2013 at 11:56 am
    • I agree, Ishmael, about the columns. I like them in some settings, but here, we have limited space and, as SID stated, we get more flexibility with furnishings and just moving around the room. If they aren't support columns in this case, then, perhaps, we don't need them at all, like you said.:)^_^ Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on March 31, 2013 at 11:48 pm
    • I'm really hoping they rethink those purely decorative columns and decide not to install them. Without adding those obstructions there would be more options for arranging living room furniture.JMO:S

    • It is nice to see you sooooo happy Kitty,I love the space too.

Angelways on March 31, 2013 at 6:24 am
    • Oh, Angelways, you are so sweet! Thank you!! This Blog Cabin has a very HAPPY FEEL, I think. Do you think, if you won you'd try to move there as your home, wait, or use it as vacation home? I'm falling in love with it, I'm afraid. Initially, My thought was, if for some far-fetched reason I were to win, I'd sell it, since I already live in Coastal Virginia–so similar in some ways, though my area nears about 1.7 MM people! But my heart decided on its own and we're sort a' stuck together for life and my heart says the place is 'darling, precious, cute as a button, and so homey and family-like' and I could fish everyday in my own backyard and, and, and…. So now I'm smitten, like the rest of us–alas! All I can say; a BLOGGIE must win! Don't you think that's reasonable, Angelways? <3<3<3

DwnSoDwnEaster on April 1, 2013 at 12:06 am

    • Happy Easter to you Kitty and bloggies:)
Just checking in quick-WOW! they are really coming along. I love the detail you go into with your explainations and changes in the designs. They are so well thought out. I really enjoy hearing the suggestions and observations-we have a very educated and talented crew of bloggers that offer their thoughts. I learn so much. I really like it when DIY takes up our suggestions. They are listening:) Can't wait to vote and most of all enter to win:) Hope all is well kitty:)<3

    • Kitty,I can tell how much you LOVE this one & I would be very happy if you won it. However. it sounds like you are torn about what to do when you win it .What about keeping it as a vacation home at frist, renting it out when you are not there?(with plans to move there later.)

Angelways on April 1, 2013 at 7:14 pm
    • You're so figuring it out for me–yes, I fess up–I love the place!!! :D <3 Angelways, It's a tough one for us, because from a retirement standpoint, it wouldn't be much of a weather change. What's going for it is its charm and beauty. On the other hand, if there are complicated medical treatment issues, one needs to live relatively close to a more advanced care-type facility. I would have to think about that. I'm guessing the BC is about 8+ hrs drive from here, roughly speaking, insofar as visiting or periodic oversight…. Unfortunately for now, I'm unable to sit upright for longer than a couple hours give/take and there aren't other travel options that I'm aware of, so I'm letting logic rule here. In an ideal world, I could do just exactly as you suggest–and if the winner cannot live there, hopefully they can chose that alternative. But, alas, for me, Angelways–this BC lover couldn't keep this wonderful dream, even if she awakened to it. You're right that I'm torn and you are an very good judge of character, I think–but my reality is my heart loves this BC but I'm pulling for another Bloggie to win it–perhaps it will be you–and that would give me such joy and pleasure, that for once–I wouldn't know what to say! LOL!;):p^_^<3 Kitty

    • Kitty,I 'm sorry to here that you could not travel by car for 8hr.s to enjoy the B.C..(Is there a airport near by?)But I'm sure if you win it & sell it,the money from it would help change your life ! Thank you for pulling for Me & other Bloggies to win that is so sweet of you.Have a good night!

    • Hi Ruffy! I haven't been on the blog for any long stretches of time and am just getting back to you–sorry! Hope you had a great Easter weekend, restful, full of hope of Spring and Blessings! This Blog Cabin is really a fun project and, the fact that we've had regular DIY and Builder participation has been a real treat! I'm loving how it is turning out. Wishing only that it had 3-4 bedrooms, as my family is larger, but, other than that–I'm smitten! Tried hard not to be, but this BC oozes charm and welcome! Anyone who wins It will be sooooooooooo blessed—and My prayer would be that the winner could actually keep the place. My hubby and I have been immersed, lately, in doing genealogy on just for the fun of it–I've always been interested–my Grandmother got me started when i was but a girl. But it hasn't been 2 weeks for Gary–and he LOVES it!!!:pB) But the interesting thing that prompted me to get back to it was the surname, ROBINSON. I'm descended from colonizers with that name who settled Cape Cod, MA. Now I'm wondering if our families' are connected? (with the Blog Cabin Robinsons') Wouldn't that be a HOOT??? I'm getting over the bronchitis, thanks for inquiring, Ruffy! Thanks for your comments! Hope you and your expanded pet Family are having a grand time together! I think Zuri thinks she is Top Cat here. She's taken to herding Gary and me around, stopping to see that we are just behind her, all the while meowing a certain call, ears pitched backwards to ear our footsteps. Is that what kids do when their parents get gray hair??? Start treating them like kids and say "stay right behind me, and go where I tell you, from now on!" Have I transitioned to my golden years already? Oh my! I think Zuri thinks so!;)xD<3 Kitty

    • Hi Kitty!
I am happy to hear you are getting over your bronchitis:) Well spring has not yet arrived here in Central NY:( It was blowing like a blizzard and snowing like crazy here yesterday:( Unbelievabal! Apr 4th and there is snow on the ground! So I am dreaming of winning this place further south:)
Yes, having fun with the critters-Henry the 4.5 mo old puppy is a handful-going to get him and me into some classes-we need some work:) The kitties so like yours do with the corralling behavior. Every morning especially they make sure they get in front of me to make sure I am heading for their food dish! They all keep me busy but I love it:) I cannot imagine having a home without them.
      Think Spring!
      God Bless

    • Oh Kitty, you are always the sweetest to us all. This little cabin has so much grace and love that it spills out into the air around it. You just can't escape it. I live in a similar climate also, but am in a position where I must move. My hope is of course to move closer to my family once more, even though I have been so happy here. Sometimes we have no choice about the changes we face, and I like to think the next home will be the best home, ever! I hope that you can go visit the new owner–I know I keep saying, hope you will come visit, if I win! It would be wonderful to get to take the tour, wouldn't it? After all, we've birthed it ourselves ;=). Smitten is the right word for us all. Like all of you, I fell in love with the first photo–love at first sight. And then the photos of the inside, all the familiar items from my life just sitting there, like they had been left for me… I know that is the way a lot of other people reacted too. I could see my mother's hand, my grandmother's hand, my grandfather's and aunts and uncles and cousins… really jumping on those beds, swinging in those rope swings, playing in the water, fishing, playing in that big yard, and all the tables set for the big Sunday dinners and family reunions… it had all of that. I am sure. And it will have it again. Good luck to you, and to all the bloggers. May we have a winner in the family!

    • Wonderful to have you on our team, Miss Kitty! It is hard to tell from the photo, looks like it is a half-wall, but maybe not… we can keep hoping! DIY listens, but like parents, they choose to do what they can, and what they think is best for us… think of that–We are the children here ;=).

BrookwoodCarolina on April 3, 2013 at 9:58 pm
    • Kitty,
Did you say there were other pictures of the inside? Looked around couldn't find anything else. Nice to see a picture of the inside. Looking good so far. Is that a half wall under stairs going up? Odd. Hope all is well……Thanks,

  5. Thank you Mary for another peak inside..The Living room looks so much bigger than I pictured and I love the staircase where it is located… We are so excited to be part of this Journey…Diy and all involved keeps us frozen to our Computers afraid we will miss something if we walk away. You know We don't want to miss anything. LOL
So glad We will get the Q&A again this BC..I think that way, We all can get on the Same Page in our thought process, So far We are Very Happy with the Cozy Cottage….
Mary I would like to Plea once again for just one Camera Cam in the corner of the kitchen to view the living room and dining area..Just three rooms out of how many other rooms and areas that we won't be able to see. So many other Surprises to see in the Big Reveal…We Bloggers would like to see a little of what is going on inside as We did in the 2010 BC in Bethel, NY…We would appreciate being part of "some" of the Action Inside tooooo! All of the Surprises won't be revealed and the Bloggers would be So Happy to be included in the Process and Not be just a Viewer…
Thank you Mary, We appreciate You and all that You do!!!:p:)<3

I think you said it a lot better than I ever could. ;) Best to all you bloggers ;) and the Great DIY Team !;)

Nan on March 31, 2013 at 3:26 pm
    • All my votes, just like Jennie's! I know we would all love to see each room as it's finished… but being practical, I guess DIY has to keep the shows under wraps until after they air on TV? So, I do understand why we can't see more, but you know, having thousands of pairs of eyes watching over our little place can't be all bad :=).

BrookwoodCarolina on March 31, 2013 at 8:36 pm

    • Chris you & Kitty out did your selves. Yes, the ghosts are there. Maybe you two should come up with the end of the DIY 2013 blog party with all of the blogers (ghosts) sitting or standing on the lawn toasting the winner. Just a fun thought. Everyone wants to go to the winners party but I think it would have to be a virtual party. You could do a toast to the winner. Anyway thanks for the photo updates, yes a job well done
