  4. Good morning bloggers, I was up watching the sunrise this morning and while panning the camera i noticed something rather amusing. If you look halfway between the dock and cabin towards the tree line, zoom in and you will see the sky track burried in the mud. Cant imagine what he was doing over there.:D

    540sam on March 17, 2013 at 7:17 am
    • Hi 540sam. I just mentioned this above–if you zoom in on that mess, you'll see it seems to be hiding something behind it? I saw someone standing by the fence, looking across at it. Also saw someone working on the dock, alone. What do you think the sky track is hiding?

BrookwoodCarolina on March 17, 2013 at 9:41 am
    • The person at the dock was just moving all the old dock deck pieces away from the left side of the new dock.

Builder on March 17, 2013 at 11:06 am
    • Hi Brook, where did you see a fence…I haven't spotted a fence over in that direction..I saw something
over by the property line but couldn't tell what it was…It looked kind of odd sitting way over there where
No other activity is going on..Mmmmmmmm we must investigate!!!.:pB)

    • Didn't type it like that !!! o.0:p

      Jennie/Florida on March 17, 2013 at 12:13 pm
    • Hi Sam, It looks as though they are taking out bushes and small trees over there in that area when that
"sky track" got buried in the mud…Why would they do that? Pretty soon the Privacy between the two Properties will be gone…So sad in my way of thinking because the Natural Landscaping is being invaded..Don't understand why they are doing that!!! What do you think Sam???:(:(

      Jennie/Florida on March 17, 2013 at 12:04 pm
    • Jennie, I really dont know, you wouldnt use it to clear anything its meant to lift, you wold use the other piece of equipment called a back hoe sitting by the cabin for minor clearing. But the sky track is definatly stuck, you can see its sitting on the frame. I cant imagine why its over there, but there is where it will stay until something gets it out.

      540sam on March 17, 2013 at 12:49 pm
    • Gosh Jennie, let's hope they are not destroying the privacy barrier! But, maybe they are clearing that little path through the trees that we talked about. Maybe they are making a place to put your benches.:D:D Or could they be installing a post for the pet park transmitter? I am just guessing "in the dark" here, because I was at work all day, and by the time I got to my computer, the cabin cam was dark. They really do need to be careful about taking down too much foliage because the privacy that this home provides is one of the things that makes it special. Good night to all. I will be back tomorrow evening. Boo

  5. Well, I voted through to see the choices. I only hope that the metal address does not win; I hate those things. As a person who drives a truck and must look or addresses, the lack of contrast in these signs and their size make them hard to read at any speed. I've been to too many developments using cast metal address signs and it always adds time to the stop for just locating the correct address.

On the flip side, I'm loving the idea of horseshoe pits; we've asked for them in previous years at length.

DGustaf on March 17, 2013 at 7:23 am
    • And here I've been voting for the metal because I was thinking it would be easier to see, and possibly last longer. Rethinking that choice!

      karenlin91 on March 17, 2013 at 8:25 am
    • If I win I will take down whichever one wins. I dont want anyone to find me.LOLB)

  6. Congratulations to Carole Simpson of Tennessee for winning the HGTV home in SC.

Builder on March 17, 2013 at 8:16 am
    • Yes! Congratulations to her! I entered that one every single day, but then I found this blog cabin and was lost. To my mind there is no comparison! This is a place I want to live in ;-)

      karenlin91 on March 17, 2013 at 8:20 am
    • Congratulations to her! I actually watched it. I entered everyday, and this one too. I'm not a lucky person so I did both. But, I agree with KarenLin, this house is much better.

I looked at the BC this morning, and there is someone at the dock…Busy, busy, busy..

Although I would like to win, it really doesn't matter. Whoever wins this will be lucky and happy.

Have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day, everyone!!

    • I was wondering who the Lucky Winner would be–I've entered for the Dream Home every season since the beginning. And I loved the look of this one. It was almost as if I'd drawn the plans up myself. Hope she'll be able to use and enjoy it for many long years :=).

BrookwoodCarolina on March 17, 2013 at 9:31 am
    • Carole seems like a nice and deserving person. I wish her the best

      540sam on March 17, 2013 at 12:56 pm
    • Hi Builder ! I second that! So happy for her. I also entered. I believe it was over 77 million ,WOW ! We still have our Blog cabin to dream about each day. Dreaming is what I need when things rough. What a happy place to think of and ,with ALL the special things DIY does for us! It looks better each day. The voting is fun. No matter what is chosen it will be special. <3 ;) Wish the best to all you bloggers <3 <3 <3 <3

  7. The ol' home place is shaping up to be one fine shore property. The outdoor choices are wonderful, and offer so much outdoor fun and enjoyment. Can't wait to see the landscaping job take shape in the upcoming months. My only concern, is that the property will be valued so high in the end, that the winner will be hard pressed to pay the real estate taxes on it. That being said, good luck to everyone!

JJmck on March 17, 2013 at 11:17 am
    • Hi JJmck, I love all of the choices the designers have selected. I am sure whatever is chosen will be just beautiful! Much Love!! <3<3

  9. You ever have one of those days where everything just seems to be going wrong and you wish you could just go somewhere to get away from all your pains and troubles? I am having one of those days right now. Sometimes life just seems a bit over whelming. I decided to come online and look at more pictures of this beautiful home and nature. What a wonderful and peaceful looking place! Looks a bit fogging today but would love to be a there right now just sitting, enjoying the beauty and sipping on some tea. Ahh just to relax and be able to forget your pain and everything or at least retrack your mind and enjoy the beauty of the land if just for a bit. Just panning around with the cam and seeing nature at it's best has given me a warm feeling and has taken my bad day and made it just a little better. Thank you DIY!!! Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on March 17, 2013 at 12:09 pm
    • Rebecca, it's really a special place to be able to relax you like that! We are all lucky that we can go there. Glad it's made your day better, and hopefully it will carry over.

    • Rebecca, May you have more good days as we all get closer to spring. It is amazing how much the weather affects how we feel! I agree that looking at the pictures of the plans for the blog cabin and the gorgeous surroundings makes me feel a little better. Its nice that the "scenery" changes as the DIY Team progresses in their work on the blog cabin. Have a good evening! Becky:)<

    • Dearest Rebecca, My heart goes out to you and i hope and pray that tomorrow will be a better day for you! So glad that the internet lets us escape to beautiful dreams such as Blog Cabin, where imagination can carry our thoughts away from pain and frustration…. Friday, the 15th was my 62nd birthday and all I could think of, even though my back and neuropathy were really acting up, i was, again, marveling that I am alive–for however long God wants me to be. Please, everybody, forgive me, if this seems repetitious, but i experienced something so fantastic early this year–if it will encourage just ONE of you in whatever LIFE STORM you may be in, then I share it for your sake! Much LOVE, Rebecca! <3 Kitty am posting this again~~ when I posted this last Winter, I was facing metastasized pancreatic, liver, duodenal and stomach cancer, yes, one of the most huge storms in my life! I've had many. On January 4th, it was proven medically that God had/has totally healed me! I cannot, nor can my medical team explain. Why am I still here, when I prepared for the worst? I just know that the words of this song mean so much, they DID carry me through what My Family and I went through. The Bible says , "… the Lord inhabits the praises of His people." If this is so, and any of you are going through a storm, let Him INHABIT your PRAISES! In doing so~~HE will be ever present, as you go through your storm, be your Comfort, your Strength, your Healer, whether inside or out. ♥ Love, Kitty

      karenlin91 on March 17, 2013 at 6:46 pm
    • Karenlin, I haven't any idea as to why, God did it in a very quiet, sweet way, surprising me with the news at the doctor's office, when Gary and i went to go over all the re-tests and to schedule the surgery that we already knew was so major, I might not survive IT! My Doc, was just sitting there, shaking his head in awe! Nothing could be explained! The difference was totally visible in multiple tests and nuclear scans from different department sources…. God is good.<3 Kitty

    • DwnSoDwnEaster , Miracles do happen. Keep singing His praises. I had just posted how dreaming helps me when it gets rough. Faith is a great healer. Stay well. Enjoy each day. How nice to share with this great group. ;) Best to all. <3

    • Nan, YOU are so right! It seems my heart overflows with song, if not out loud–definitely in my mind's ear.:) I imagine I would drive my husband crazy singing 24/7–but then he also, rejoices with me!! Thank you for your kind and encouraging words…I had nothing, no strength or faith of my own to merit God's Grace. Oh, He is so full of mercy! Love to you and all Bloggies!!! ^_^<3<3<3 Kitty

    • How wonderful! Many more of God's blessings, kitty. His mercy is forever!

    • Trish that's so true!!!:) You can know in your head and even heart of the Power of God, but He is often seen as remote and not so interested in our teeny little affairs~~ when, it seems, out of the Big Blue Sky, He surprises You with Something like What He Did for me! I CAN BELIEVE NOW~~HE WILL DO FOR OTHERS, LIKE ON THIS BLOG, WHO ARE HURTING, ILL, UNEMPLOYED, UNDEREMPLOYED, GRIEVING! Oh that I could spread it around for others to experience this very Joy and Peace!!! Thank you, Trish! xD^_^<3 Kitty

    • Hi Kitty, what a beautiful song. I hope your health continues to keep getting better. How are you doing? I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on March 18, 2013 at 9:46 am
    • I hoped the song would help you feel encouraged. YOU, dear Friend, are such a love to this Blog! Have you any idea what joy your upbeat heart brings to us??? Sweet Girlfriend, I believe God wants to Bless and strengthen you. He knows the pain and suffering that you live with. Because I am often bedridden due to my severe neuropathy and degenerative bone disease, I use my laptop a lot nowadays and thank God for the explosion of knowledge which invented the hardware and software that we can enjoy wit computers! Isn't it great? I have downloaded free Spotify APP and play beautiful music all day! Fill my life with positives…. I believe that God chose Life to heal me of that massive cancer! I also believe He has reserved from healing the other part, because I was truly an on-the-go"super woman be all do all perfectionist" who had all my irons in the fire and never slowed down. I no longer believe that way–Life is so precious and we all have our reason for being. I think God wanted to slow me down to look upon life differently–to be available. So here I am. Very imperfect vessel, but available. Sing, Rebecca, or fill your world with good music you love, that uplifts you and helps take your mind away from the pain! You are so Special! <3<3<3:* Kitty

    • Rebecca, Much love back to you!!! I'm sorry I have not had much time to blog lately, but I do hope you are having a much better day today!!! You are right, simply logging on and looking at this beautiful home and watching it transform before our very eyes from the contractors' work to the winning people's choice votes, can quickly melt away the layers of stress in our lives! I hope everything gets better for you as Spring emerges to refresh and renew the earth and our spirits! ^_^:)<3

  10. HELP!! Great selection of Outdoor Living Features! I've voted for most of the rustic ones, except for the bench, where I chose the Adirondack Chairs.

However, as for the pet park, I NEED SOME GUIDANCE, and quick!! I'm terribly conflicted. Terri is lobbying for the square one. (Hmm, do dogs really know best?) Still, I've placed one vote for the trapezium(?), but before I continue voting, here's the problem: a trapezium is a quadrilateral (4 sided) shape with NO parallel sides and a trapezoid is a quadrilateral with 2 sides parallel of uneven length — but here we seem to be faced with 5 sides! So technically we have a pentagon, which has 5 linear sides. If all angles are equal and all sides are equal length, it is a regular pentagon, otherwise it is an irregular pentagon, which is what we appear to be voting on in our Blog Cabin pet park. (A convex rather than a concave irregular pentagon for that matter since there is no internal angle greater than 180 degrees.)

So my intense confusion is over whether we're actually voting for a trapezoid, a trapezium, or an irregular pentagon. Please reply ASAP, folks at DIY, to put my mind at ease so I may continue with my voting….

Until then, I remain… confused and conflicted! ;)

DBCoop on March 17, 2013 at 12:25 pm
    • Since this is a wireless containment system, I really dont think it matters which one is picked because the winner could reconfigure it to their or their pets whims by simply moving around transmitter posts.

      540sam on March 17, 2013 at 1:01 pm
    • LOL, I'm so confused now, I don't know what it is! Something for dogs, right? ;-)

      karenlin91 on March 17, 2013 at 1:27 pm
    • LOL Coop!! I was horrible at geometry , so I can't help you. :)

Mel on March 17, 2013 at 2:07 pm
    • You know, I don't really think it matters much at all. This system seems to operate on radio waves and will be mostly invisible. I believe that the choice was put in here as part of the agreement between DIY and the system supplier to showcase the product and this just adds a bit more exposure.

Ishmael on March 17, 2013 at 2:24 pm
    • A trapezium is a quadrilateral with 2 parallel sides of unequal lenghts and 2 non parallel sides

zulumom on March 17, 2013 at 3:53 pm
    • Oddly enough, that's true in the British Isles, but Americans, for whatever reason, reverse that definition. Thus, to confuse matters, what we call a trapezoid is called a trapezium by the Brits. But then we drive on the wrong side of the road as well… or not, depending on which side of the pond you might live.

DBCoop on March 17, 2013 at 4:14 pm
    • Except if you look closely at the diagram, the area of coverage actually has six sides…so it's really neither a trapezoid nor a trapezium at all.

Ishmael on March 17, 2013 at 5:51 pm
    • Im confused and conflicted because I have never used shock therapy to train my dog to stay in my yard.=/

      sway65 on March 17, 2013 at 5:01 pm
    • I once used a product called Invisible Fence inside of my house to keep the dog away from areas that allowed the cats to move about safely and have an unmolested litter box; it worked reasonably well.

DGustaf on March 17, 2013 at 9:29 pm
    • Hi Sway65. This is my favorite thing of the peoples choice items. This is a very nice option for your pet and they are easily trained where their boundaries are. Once they learn their boundaries they will stay in the area and not be shocked with the collar at all. I know shocked sounds aweful but it is not harmful for your pet it just lets them know their boundaries and once trained they will not even be shocked again because they will stay away from the boundaries. I am a true animal lover and would not do anything to harm an animal or use something that would harm them. This is completely safe and a wonderful choice than to have them locked up in a cage. Much Love!! <3<3

Rebecca on March 18, 2013 at 9:39 am
    • Rebecca, my spaniel is very stubborn and I am considering some type of restraining like that. I open the front door and he just runs, I'm afraid he'll get hurt anytime; but am also concern that I might hurt him with the shocks. What's your opinion?

havanera on March 23, 2013 at 1:16 am
    • You all are way over-analyzing this thing. I had to go to ref. material to translate. That made my head hurt so I gave up and got myself a glass of wine. You people are a stitch!!

    • Fascinating — I see that some caught the light-hearted humor in my comment, others not so much.

Oh well, I'm continuing to vote for the 'trapezium' pet park (call it what you will) with complete peace of mind simply because I think the shape adds interest. No fuss, no muss and no guilt! Even Terri agrees on that point, and she's a very wise two year old.

Finally, the task before us is clear. For although it's been said a picture is worth a thousand words, sometimes it's what's in our heart that matters more. Thus I promise to choose and to vote, from this day forward, which is better, which is worse, in secret and by stealth, until I've done my part.

Onward joyful voters, pushing up the score, "for you see," quoth the raven, "that's what the People's Choice is for!"

DBCoop on March 18, 2013 at 12:29 am
    • DB – and I now pronounce you . . .

Wind Chime Girl on March 18, 2013 at 7:41 pm
    • LOL! Hopefully, when the time is right, DIY will say to me, "We now announce this your house for life!"

DBCoop on March 18, 2013 at 10:02 pm
    • It was easy. I looked for trees that our four footed friend(s) might enjoy in the area.

Trish on March 18, 2013 at 9:16 am
    • Hi DBCoop! I am personally picking the trapezium design. I am picking this because I am truly thinking of the animals. Dogs love bushes and shrubs and this one seems to have more shrubs and bushes in it. Dogs love to lay under them for shade and some also love to do their business around them which is really good as opposed to in the middle of the yard. I just feel they will be more comfortable with more bushes than laying in the hot sun. That is my only reason for choosing this design. Much Love!! <3<3
