Love it Loveit It has history and location. It's perfect just the way it is; almost.
Think I know where this is. Is it suppossed to be a secret? I am from the area. The lady who owned it was my 5th grade teacher, the best I ever had. It is a beautiful area. Ever heard of "Downeast," NC? The original downeast, NC. People in this area have lived there for many, many generations, since the beginning of the settling of NC and before. Most everyone who lives there can find a link to another in their family tree. I hope the up grade maintains a lot of the history and most of the charm of the area.
Bobbye, thank you for posting and welcome to the blog! This must have been a wonderful place to grow up. Do you still live in the area? I hope hurricane Sandy doesn't cause too much damage, and everyone stays safe.
Atlantic is such a beautiful village, and The Core Banks is my favorite place in the world. Spectacular beaches and fishing, and the shelling is grand! I can't wait to watch the transformation of the cottage.
Thanks for the info, Bobbye.
Love this home and the beautiful area. This will be the best DYI Home ever!!!
Whoa…I'm dreaming again. This home is going to be a real beauty – just look the natural surroundings. I'm in love. Thank You DIY, you did it again. Although this will probably be your best yet. One thing, can you please leave the fireplace. I'm not fond of pot belly stoves. B)
Sand and Surf, welcome to the world of HGTV/DIY home lovers. It's amazing how they force us to fall in love with one home after another.
Just hope it is still standing after Sandy went through the area.
You indicate it is located in Atlantic NC on the coast. Live clos to there and can't find the house. More information plese. Also I would like to see all the programs pertaining to this house. Please advise
This is a beautiful area; looking forward to the 'makeover'.Marje
LOVE THAT IS ON THE BEACH AND THAT IT IS NOT A NEWER ABIN:p
Just started following the blog cabin. The location is beautiful! I'm a lover of old homes and quiet locations on the beach. The old cabin was charming. I can see those seven kids running around in the big yard, climbing the trees and swimming in the ocean. What a wonderful life that would have been. This is a lovely, calm and welcoming location. Someone is going to be very lucky!
definately by the ocean is ideal. it is a dream of mine and always has been to retire by the beach and rock and just enjoy the views and sounds of the area. perfect views with a perfect place. my home dream has always been to live in a cabin. it is nice to dream, all should do it!…..Susie from Nebraska with no beach!
I love the location and I know it will be beautiful when finished. Love to win. Amy Avant, Walterboro, S.C.
YAHOEY! At last, a real cabin reno. Thanks for listening to the bloggers DIY. Maybe this will attract some of the original bloggers back to the show.
:DxD
Yippy yahoo to your Yahoey, Clive!!! I'm practically dancing around the computer. I love the Carolina
beaches!!!

Thanks for the link Deerspring.
Does this location mean you'll be hanging around on the DIY blog more this year?
You are one heck of a sleuth, so I hope your answer is YES
Melll ! Crystal Coast ! It sounds wonderful !! You must be extremely excited to have the BC project in your home state ! This is so fantastic with the HGTV Dream Home on Kiawah Island and now this one in NC.
LOL LLColeman it was a NICE surprise!
I have always wanted a Scripps giveaway home near the Outer Banks, but never dreamed it would happen. I can still remember my first trip to the Outer Banks, and being so excited by the ferry rides. I was around six, and would not remain seated. The gulls were everywhere, and we spotted a seal. ( My poor mom) I found the area magical then, and I still do. Someone is going to be SO blessed when they win this sea side cabin. Good Luck LL !
Mel, I've enjoyed reading the blog and watching the building of the last two Blog Cabins.
I feel like this has been a good opportunity to "listen and learn" from all of you and DIY.
I loved the other two homes but this one may be extra special this time around!
Good Luck DeerSpring ! This location is so special !! Calming and romantic! It inspired some great novels by this gifted writer :
"To all the ships at sea, and all the ports of call. To my family and to all friends and strangers. This is a message, and a prayer. The message is that my travels taught me a great truth. I already had what everyone is searching for and few ever find. The one person in the world who I was born to love forever. A person, like me, of the outer banks, and blue Atlantic mystery. A person rich in simple treasures. Self-made. Self-taught. A harbour where I am forever home. And no wind, or trouble or even a little death can knock down this house. The prayer is that everyone in the world can know this kind of love and be healed by it. If my prayer is heard, there will be an erasing of all guilt and all regret and an end to all anger. Please, God. Amen"
—–Nicholas Sparks, Message in a Bottle
Mel, there's definitely a magical quality to the Outer Banks!
Thanks DeerSpring! The article was much more informative than DIY!
Loved the link, Deerspring ! Did you catch the mention of a "viewer-controlled camera" at the construction site ? We shall see….
LL, yes, I found the live cam tab at the top of this page. I couldn't get the 360 degree feature to work, but it does pan about 180 degrees. They've already raised the cabin to what looks to be about 8 foot.
TY, I'll check it out!
I hope they save a lot of the furniture that belongs in that "cabin". Love the bed with all the fancy spindles! I didn't exactly go wild over the white wicker inside (believe it would fit the screened in porch better) but it looks like they have a great project and also a lot of work! That boat dock should be called a dock want to be! Hope the storms they are starting to forcast in the east doesn't do a lot of damage to the area!
The dock was built just as a place to sit out on the water and enjoy the sunsets. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene destroyed it last year and our family couldn't afford to have it rebuilt again.
Maybe Clive- but a little fishing cabin in MN would better suit me!
The family who just sold it is definitely watching!! And we're kinda nervous! xD
Alicia, if you, as it sounds, had any part in the interior, you and your family are to be thanked if you sold the interior with the property! What a warm and comforting feeling I got seeing the "before" pics. I said to myself it should be left just as it is for the lucky winner. Blessed Be!
I wish I could figure out how to comment on this cabin. I've always followed a log of the HGTV homes, but this is the one I really want to comment on.
I think the inside is so quaint. I love the fireplace (hope it's beauty is not lost with the reno). I also think some of the furniture currently there is so gorgeous. It shows the wonderful history of this home. Hope the old water pump outside stays also. This is one absolutely fabulous beach cabin. I love it's character and charm.
Like you I hope the outdoor water hand pump stays and stays operable. Nice if the power goes out! This morning I am watching our nor'easter form over the sound and ocean. Too soon after Sandy for the Northeast and way too cold with snow for us in the northern "Downeast"! Nice to track what the weather is doing before it gets here with the live webcam!
Looks like there's no chance of keeping the hand pump near the home since they're now doing a total rebuild. Would be nice to see them drive a shallow well and relocate the hand pump closer to the dockand repurpose it for washing off sandy feet!
Thank you Mary, Beautiful location for the 2013 Blog Cabin…I see a lot of potential for this little 1600sq ft Cottage. I love how it nestles under all those nice trees…looks like a much needed Renovation from top to bottom and all in between…Please don't keep us waiting to long to get started! We are so ready for this next adventure….It was hard to let go of the Farmhouse but I think Josephine and family will fit right in and will have great times there…I'm happy for her and family… I'm so glad you are keeping us up to date. We really appreciate that..Thank you again Mary!!! Oh and that feast that Chris was about to tackle, it looked really goood!!!! YUM!
So much fun keeping up W/ the Blog Cabin 2013. Love it and it is less than 2 hrs. drive from where we live. Have always loved the Charleston area . It's our vacation place every year..
Has everything wanted!
1600 sq feet-almost twice the size of my house! Love old buildings-hope the charm stays!…and you're right-dinner looked fantastic!
Great location!!!! Beach front!!!! And what a beautiful bog cabin it is going to be. Can't wait for the reno to begin. Nice job Chris!!!!;)
This could not have been a a better location than this, especially since I just recently attended my 50th High School Reunion and hooked up with the love of my life from Kindergarden and now we are going to be together forever. It only took us 63 years to figur out that we were meant for eah other. This location will definately be the site of my wedding with my true love if I am lucky enough to win this and I really look forward to helping to build this with my choices during construction.
I agree! Looking forward to following the construction to decoration t completion! HGTV really knows how to create a home and make it personalized to its surroundings and complete!
Been there. REALLY BEAUTIFUL location & super people. Just make it structurally safe and sound and repair the dock and I'll take it as is!!!!!! This one will really rock!!
Wow! Mary did not waste any time announcing next years location.
It looks like a wonderful location. I love the beach location.
Iiiiiiim Ready… I'm ready, I'm ready, Iiiiiiiiiii'm Ready!!!!!!xD

I cant wait to see the Blue Prints / full layout!!!
I love this cabin. I think I'm more excited about this than the one in Me,which I really thought was stupendous . I hope Josephine & her family will be able to enjoy that cabin & make lots of memories.
What a Gem to look forward to! Maybe the kitchen will stay white with blue accents because I think it is so crisp and beachy.Thankyou, Mary and DIY for the great news and the fantastic VIEW with the next Blog Cabin. BINGO!!!
LOVE White with blue accents!xD^_^<3 Kitty
I love this cabin and that it is ocean front property. My favorite place to visit. I can't wait for it to begin.
North Carolina Outer banks in a wonderful place, this looks like sound front far from the ocean. I have fished many times in the waters around this house and always said if I had a house there it would be right where this one is. This is my kind of place for a vacation love this place.
Sure enjoyed helping the crew film the promo. Captain Damon
I hope you had fun with Chris Grundy. I believe he's an avid fisherman in his leisure time.
I hope to take him fishing when he comes back.
We may well look you up for a charter when we next visit the NC coast & the Banks.
I'll be glad to hook you up! Pun intended!
Captain Damon you guys did an awesome job on the promo video!!
I can almost feel the ocean spray when I watch, and I can't get enough of watching!!
With the age of the home and it's location, I can't help but wonder if this coastal gem didn't once belong to a captain. Oh the stories it's walls would of heard if it did.
Captain Damon, it's nice that you found the blog. Atlantic, NC looks like a very special spot.
