The Blog Cabin 2012 Winner Drawing

Yes, indeed, fans. We randomly selected the winner of the Blog Cabin 2012 Giveaway! For those curious about the drawing process, please watch the following video. Just a note: Lottery balls numbered one through five designate mail-in entries and lottery balls numbered six through 542 designate online entries. When the representative selects the ball, she reads its batch number to know whether to head to a specific bin, dump its contents on the floor and pull out one mail-in entry or head to the computer to type in the batch number and let the computer randomly select one online entry. It’s all pretty serious business! We will announce the name of the winner in late October. Keep checking back here for details!

  2. I want to thank DIY for acquainting me with Maine. Congratulations to the winner I hope it is everything that you hoped.
I agree with Jennie/Florida in thanking DIY for letting us know that a winner has been contacted.
Also, DIY please listen to Karen. I have to agree with her about making future Blog Cabins a little more user friendly. A guest bathroom or a powder room on the main level would have made a big difference.
Once again Congratulations to the winner.

    • Eugenia, just want to say that I love your bunny all posed, paying homage to your Mom! I took care of my Mom in my home for almost 20 years, till she passed away 2 years ago, in July. That is a very endearing way to honor your Mother! It made me smile! Thank you! ^_^<3 Kitty

    • Thank you. There are several of us that know the honor of being able to be caregivers to our parents.
It has only been 6 months since Mom passed. She was such a kick. It was a joy having her in our home, those last 6 years. She just missed her 100th birthday by less than 3 months. Mom’s secret to long life was never get old. She posed the bunny every day. It actually helped me; I could tell the days that she was not feeling well because the bunny didn’t look happy. On occasion I change the bunny’s pose. It’s one of those happy/sad moments. I’m looking forward to the time when it is just a happy moment. Does it get better?

    • Oh, Eugenia, You have my heartfelt sympathy! I still get very wistful at different times about my Mom and it's been over 2 years. The hardest for me to get over is the image of her death here at home. We all must go through this journey in one way or another and, over time, I think it gets easier. The sadness lingers, but one can cope better, as one focuses on the more joyful memories. I think of times when Mom and I got the giggles and couldn't stop laughing. For the life of me, I can't even recall what we were laughing about–but we laughed side splitting laughter, sharing one of those aha moments I'll never forget. The more, I think, that you can recall those times, Eugenia, the closer you will approach the better moments. Redoing the Bunny, because You shared that with your Mom, is a good starting point–really. Think of a funny pose that your Mother would probably perceive as hilarious–could even be related to a private, family joke you shared. She must have been an amazing Lady. I love her expressive creative spirit! I used to stuff my clothes on the bed and shape them into a rag doll sort of figure, with head to toe clothes! Don't recall why I did it, but i did it for several years daily as a girl, and of course, while it was creative, it sure wrinkled everything I wore! Anyhow, I guess what I am saying is, Your dear Mom had a reason for being so full of ways to describe life and feelings so inventively. I bet it would please her if she saw you being both kind and creatively good to yourself by finding light-hearted ways to enrich your days' activities and to dig for all the warm fuzzy memories of growing up, or of being the grown up and having that privileged time with her till God called her Home to Him. It does get easier, especially as you think on these things, when you are able. Just be patient with yourself. I still cry. That's why God gave us tear ducts…. (((HUGS)))<3 Kitty

    • Kity, you are a wonderful person. I have followed you posts this year on BC.
I’m not that great at the written word so I’ll leave it at THANK YOU!

  3. I'd thank God and then probably have a heart attack.

  4. All the dates for various announcements are 'approximate' (DIY's wording) because of the many factors involved in selecting and revealing the winner. Even after selection the winner must be 'vetted' to ensure they comply with the rules and that they want to accept the prize. We've had recent bloggers saying they wouldn't or couldn't accept the prize and others may be excluded for many other reasons.

What we do know is that someone has been selected and that they've either been contacted or will be very soon. Hopefully, DIY will announce the winner within the next few days. However, I suspect the winner already knows who they are. Good luck to them. ^_^ I hope their lives are enriched by this gift and people have respect for their privacy and decisions about the house.

  5. Thank You Mary for such wonderful posts all season long and we all await more details ! The woman who pushed THE SPACEBAR must really feel the excitement of millions of us dreaming the same dream!!!!. Since there can only be one winner of the actual Blog Cabin, the rest of us just came in 2nd . It's the same every year so it is no surprise or let down for those of us comming in 2nd . I do remember the first time I entered and how it feels awfully unfair. To the new people who entered a kzillion times or only once, I want you to continue the hope that next time is just around the corner in HGTV and DIY contest world, and we are all still here to try again….I,m so very happy for the lucky winner….CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  6. Oh, sorrow, disappointment, and I'm commiserating with all of the bloggers, like me, who did not receive a phone call. I wish there could be a Blog Cabin for each of us! Congratulations to the winner of Blog Cabin 2012! I hope you and your family enjoy your new home and make many happy memories with the BC.

    Karen'smovingtoMaine on October 12, 2012 at 5:32 pm
    • No phone call here either. I'm with you in hoping the new winner makes lots of happy memories. I also want to know about their 1st visit to the Blog Cabin… if they can not live in it but take the items they truly love and sell, that's OK. But wouldn't it be nice if they blogged their happiness about the whole experience?

FarmhouseRecipe on October 12, 2012 at 5:51 pm
    • Yes, that would be fun if the winner blogs with us. We could share in their joy and their first visit to BC.

      Karen'smovingtoMaine on October 13, 2012 at 9:50 am
    • That would be like the icing on the cake for all of us who want to celebrate the Winner's good fortune. After all, we Bloggies participated from the get-go, helping with ideas and selections for the Blog Cabin, so we're really invested in this beautiful structure. Sure every Contest entrant really wanted to win–these ARE bittersweet times for us, but we want to celebrate with the Winner–that will make losing a softer experience, for in lifting high the winner, our eyes are off ourselves and focused on another—this is what unselfishness is–and that's what good living is all about!;)xD<3 Kitty

    • DwnSoDwnEaster, I agree. Although it is bittersweet, we do need to let the BC go, and congratulate the BC winner and move on. Who knows maybe the winner will share with us what this experience has been for them. I wish them many wonderful memories, good wishes and blessings as they make the BC their own. Who knows, maybe will ask you to visit and give advice on growing plants in the yard, like money trees. Haha.:)<3

  7. Congrats to winner dream come true for you!! I guess I will have to change my dreams to Miami:)

  8. ~It did say they were going to pick around the 15th and contact on the 19th. If they did already bummers. We serious sweepers know to be home on that day they say they are going to call, make sure the phone is paid and no one, no one is to interrupt us. Aaahh, what are they doing to us? :o I thought I had a few more days to pray a little more. ~

  9. I saw a good friend today, he asked, how are you? I relplied, a little melancholy. He had a puzzled look on his face and asked, why? I told him, I didn't win my dream home. He then said, but you're still a winner. You know what you want in life and you went after your dream. Thank you DIY for giving me the opportunity to dream again, a most precious gift and one that I will cherish. My blessings and good wishes go out to this years winner, where ever they are.. :)

    • I was so hopeful for you, Ken! After the loss of your Father this year, and putting all your hopes and dreams into the BC, I was pulling for you. There were some kind-hearted Bloggies who were pulling for me and I am so grateful to them for it but just the same, it baffles me. But you my friend, belong back home in Maine and I cannot live there year-round, even though my heart longs to, because my place is beside my dear hubby, Gary. The most I could be back home in Maine would be about half a year–that's why, I felt strongly that Blog Cabin should go to a year Round Resident. Be comforted that there's a place for you, somewhere, a place for you…someday…somehow…somewhere….<3 Kitty

    • My smile is back! Thanks Kitty!!!.Yes, the loss of my father has been difficult but I take comfort in knowing he is watching over us and will lead me back home one day. I still believe… Next stop, Union Maine, to look a center chimney Cape with exposed beams, hardwood floors, large mudroom, and inviting deck to take advantage of scenery. Established in a private setting. Maybe this will be my dream home. :)

Day Dreamer on October 13, 2012 at 10:01 pm
    • Dear Ken, That is a very lovely home in Union! It seems to have all the elements except the water nearby–that part is going to be up to you. Also, the sense of town, community activities arts theater, in which you may wish to participate may be things to look at–I'm sure that's on your list! :D I think you could make that house a real home because it has the bones for it! Keep me posted? Stay happy–life=hope! B)xD<3 Kitty
