Wouldn’t You Like These House Keys?

Blog Cabin 2012 House Keys

Time is running out. The Blog Cabin 2012 Giveaway entry period ends tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET. Have you been entering twice online daily? Gosh, I hope so!

Let’s do a little daydreaming today. If the phone happens to ring, you answer it and the voice on the other end of the line says, “You are the new owner of Blog Cabin 2012,” what will you do first? When you are handed the keys (yes, those are the actual house keys shown above) and proceed to unlock the door to your new home, what room will you explore first?

  1. I absolutely have no idea what I would do, but I pray that I will find out. :*

  2. This is an awesome cabin. I love, love, love it. I would thank God, and DIY. Then I would want to touch every little repopused detail in the enire house. Needless to say, I'll be there for awhile.

  3. First Total disbelief. Hmmm are you sure you have the right person? Hang up the phone. Must be a crank call! Well Ashtabulannie is a big ol'e woman and won't be doing any jumping around for sure. No screaming, Simply faint. Fainting yep, that would probably happen. Perhaps some sputtering, and speaking without making much sense.Lots of blubbering. After I'm helped from the floor I would have to find the potty as I would be so excited.. Sorry I won't have the presence of mind to think to thank anyone. Totally dumbstruck. Oh no!!!! you filmed all that? Geeze! How embarrassing. Oh well I'll get over it. Hand me the keys please. I 'll send out thank you notes to Scripps President / HGTV/Diy Ceo's and execs in the morning.

    • Hokie, you are so funny ! Luckily this has been one giveaway where you just send in a photo of yourself and they do NOT film the winner, unlike the other Scripps contests. ;)

    • Phew! No Film crew! Wow I was loosing sleep over that! Right! LOLOLO LL-Best of luck to ya! It's all about the blogging! Really! Don't give a hoot about winning. Blogging is the best. And THIS site has really evolved and become positive seeing where it started out all those many months ago. It's NICE! Off to the next Notre Dame Football game in Chicago-go irish!

  4. If I was to win it would surely be a wonder for sure; for I only entered once, so I would have to thank the good Lord for his Blessings. Then keep trusting him for the money to paid the taxes too, if we were able to keep it. Be sure to thanks all the DIY folks and tell them they are welcome back any time to visit.
But if they did call, I hope they will leave a message, for I wouldn't be able to answer the phone. I would be in too much of a shock, to say anything at all. Then my husband could either talk or call them back to see if it was for real.

Then I would want to see inside of the barn; to see all the treasures they left behind for me to make all kinds of things out of it all. Then see where the best place is to put the swing for the kids to swing on. Make sure there plenty of space for a big family (and any bloggers in the area at the time) harvest party of thanks, to celebrate the big win. (House wouldn't be big enough if my whole family showed up). Then go check out my nice big sewing/laundry room to see if it's big enough for everything I would need. Then up those nice stairs to see the guest room (that my daughter said was hers), so I can check out the closets in there. They never show the inside of the bedrooms closets in the home
I all ready seen the back yard and love it, kitchen also. Then I think I would like to see the basement to see what can be done down there.
But then only one can win, and I hope the best to the winner, and thanks for the dream DIY …. If for nothing else, it was fun talking, dreaming and helping to fix this old farm house up together, with my fellow bloggers.

I know he conspired with my Money Tree as well :D Here's wishing you the best of luck in the sweepstakes and may God richly bless you and yours in every way! love, Kitty xD<3

  5. The house is beautiful. And who ever wins the house, I hope they appreciate the surroundings of nature and that beautiful barn that is to die for too. Everyone has done a great job.

  7. I would be speechless. I would then thank everyone from DIY to God. The first room I would check out would be the kitchen then the barn and then search every nook and cranny of that beautiful house. good luck to everyone.

  8. First I have to say that if the phone rings and I answer it, the person calling will immediately ask me what that terrible howling is in the background. Well, that's Terri's one bad habit — she howls uncontrollably every time the phone rings. Until she settles down, I'll probably hear something like "your new blue car's down the block crashin' into two out of twelve."

"What was that again?" I'll ask, totally perplexed. "I'm afraid I don't have a blue car. Just a beige and a red one."

"No," will come the exasperated reply. "I'm calling to tell you you're the new owner of DIY's Blog Cabin 2012 in Waldoboro, Maine."

At that point, there will be a loud crash, then complete silence from my end of the line, since I will have dropped the phone and fainted flat out. Hopefully Terri will know just what to do — lick my face to bring me to my senses — then, sitting safely on the kitchen floor, I can squeak out a "is this for real?" to the now hopelessly frustrated bearer of good news on the other end of the line.

One last comment: if I win, will I get more than one set of keys, or will I have to print the photo and take it to a locksmith to see if they can be duplicated for all of the guests that will surely be showing up at my new Blog Cabin doorstep?

    • Whew — it just dawned on me that I might be out of the country when DIY tries to ring me up on the phone, so I had to go back and look at the sweepstake rules. As luck would have it, I'll still be in town on the following dates, so feel free to call anytime on or about October 19, DIY.

According to online rules: "The Grand Prize Winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries on approximately October 15, 2012 by Ritway, Inc., an independent judging organization, (“Sweepstakes Administrator”) and will be contacted either in person or by overnight courier and phone on or about October 19, 2012."

  9. Thank everyone involved. Visit and do everything DIY asks me to do. Then, ASAP, contact a realtor and sell it quickly; pay the taxes then tell my kids they are set thru college. It's a grand house but my family's future comes first.

    • Does DIY or someone give any help with tax issues? How much tax would be owed on this house?

HANDYman on September 28, 2012 at 11:26 am
    • I don't think DIY gives tax advice or any other financial advice to the winner. You would owe 35% of the selling price to the IRS plus some state tax. With luck the winner can come away with about $400,000 clear but that depends a lot on the selling price. Even half that would be more than enough for our needs.
