Congratulations Jennifer! Good for you! Hope you enjoy your gifts!
Windee
Hi Windee! Haven't caught you at our virtual partee at BC Barn where we also have been celebrating Jennie/Florida's Birthday this entire weekend!!! Ruffy's comes next…. Had loads of fun, great food, alpaca's, doggies, more great food, music, dancing and all–and being as it was virtual, we touched nae'r a blade of BC grass but had a blast. We all wore plaid somewhere, even the pets– and Lilly won the creativity prize by adding fringe that jiggled her dance wiggle and we rocked 24/7. Hope all is well with you and you can squeeze some blog time in whenever you're able—miss ya!;)xDB)<3 Kitty
The virtual summer solstice barn dance at the BC is still going strong—where are you, ruffy ? I am looking up and down the Medomak River for your party barge—did you head south to pick up Jersey girl Maria, and down to MD for Lessie to jump on board ? The party lights you strung up look great !
Hey, Lessie–there is still time to rehearse the Tina Turner Revue…. EdinOregon likes to bring ice cream to these virtual shindigs–if you are there, Ed, could you scout out a good home made ice cream place there ? I know Hokiemom is flying in somehow–maybe parasailing, and holding on with her good wrist. I am providing a truck load of watermelons to beat the heat (and feed the alpacas). and also gallons of fresh mint ice tea. Our friend lilly is getting into the spirit and has organized some games and activities, and Kitty is bringing a great potato-veg salad, fried cauliflower and marble fudge/ cr.cheese brownies… I have some friends renting kayaks from Lisa Lane . Camac, I hope you can come celebrate virtually, too–if you can, please get Lisa to pop in !
It is looking like the virtual party is continuing into Fri. and maybe the weekend ? I hope some blogging veterans/ regulars get wind of this…Mel, Don, Jennie,Windee, Downonthefarm, AnneElise, funfordot, SweetLiz,Summer, too many more to list–I expect Coop to at least cruise by, or jet in on his way to somewhere, too…
Sounds like a rockin' good time at the DIY Blog Cabin inspired online barn dance, LLColeman. Plenty of entertainment and good food — enough to satisfy any hungry party animal!
I'm going to do my best to clear some free time from my day tomorrow, even though I'm currently dog-sitting Terri's brother, and the two are tearin' the place apart! At least I get to break away to spend some time at the historic Annenberg Estate in Rancho Mirage tomorrow. Friends have invited me along, and I'm really looking forward to it. So many stories can be told of famous names who've visited there, and much political intrigue and celebrity gossip to go with them.
Now, trying to think of what to bring to the virtual Waldoboro shindig. Something local from my area. Hmm, maybe a hefty box of deglet noor dates, which the Coachella Valley is very well-known for — they make delicious snacks and especially good date shakes.
YES ! YES– date shakes would really hit the spot with that summer heat ! Bring your terriers along, too ! They can play tag with the alpacas….. Have fun in Rancho Mirage tomorrow.
I'm glad this is a virtual barn dance as the BC is now graced with red and white "No Trespassing "signs. I believe they are the result of bloggers reporting verbally and with pictures of their visits to the BC. From talking with Victoria when she was here, I know such activity is frowned upon by the DIY people. It would be one thing to take a look- it's quite another to blog about it and post pictures before the big reveal. They are also concerned about liability issues. So, party on- just don't do it in person. A drive by, of course, is another matter since all of us here on the Neck do it daily.
Oh, yes Camac, these soirees are always virtual… I started blogging 2 yrs. ago on the BC in Bethel, NY, and that property also had a barn. It was quite near the site of Woodstock and some of the bloggers created some entertaining posts about an imaginary bloggers' party. Many of the same bloggers returned last year for the BC remodel in Susan, VA ( also referred to as Mathews, VA, since that is the name of the county and its main town). We had another couple of virtual parties for the fun of it, last year. One was a virtual baby shower….(don't ask, lol )
I can well understand the liability issues…a couple of bloggers got inside the VA BC last year while it was under construction. It delighted us to see photos they took, but we knew there were trespassing issues, too.
It is hard for a lot of us to understand the 'guarded sentiment' about the reveal–it is just as exciting, whether or not we have seen advance photos or not… I think a relatively small core of people follow the blogs, compared to the huge numbers of people who look at this site for the virtual tour and/ or the tv viewers who watch the special unveiling the project. <3
LL, I think I tend to be too practical or something to be a good party animal- although I do enjoy meeting and getting to know people- so you'll probably have to have this barn party without much input from me. Before moving up here full time I lived in Newport News VA and had some friends over in Mathews. I even did some house/ pet sitting over there for about a week (lovely place on the water).
The "No trespassing signs" have been on the BC from time to time long before the bloggers started posting pictures or filling in bloggers on what's going on there. I think it was there when people and/or the local would stop by to check on the house when they first started. I seen them in pictures when Mary posted them here. Apr. 30th post show one, you can see it in picture with Victoria on barn door. I thought they were posted to keep people out when they had the doors open and while they was working.
I believe it more for the concerned about liability issues. This is the season for people to be on vacation and they will be stopping by to visit the place and this way they can say it was posted if anything happens. I am sure they put them on all the BC in the pass too.
The 2 times I visited they didn't have any posted, I looked and I am sure I would of seen them. The local people there been posting what they seen of what's been going on there from visits they made for a long time now, to keep blogger updated on things when Mary didn't. So nothing have changed in that matter. So I don't think it because of that, but it might be, bloggers have been going by every since they found out where the BC was located.
I'm sure that posting those signs are due to liability issues, as you say. My family's home is built sort of towering over some big boulders in Bristol/New Harbor. People don't realize that my family owns the land out to the water, including those huge rocks, and they often walk across family land, without asking, to get to the rocks, to climb and take pictures. Even a movie company filmed, without permission from that land–I'll not mention the popular movie. Family left it alone. The danger is if someone is injured on one's property and sues… I understand. Now I am glad we have Dutch Neck Road and, a walkable pristine land next to the BC Barn that belongs to Medomak Valley Land Trust! How convenient!
^_^B)<3 Kitty
-home_girl, be sure to stop by the virtual barn dance, ok ?
thanks sound like fun… Why don't we all hook up the tractor to a wagon and fill it with hay and go for a good old fun hay ride to Peter lake and then back though the fields to the water front and back. We can enjoy the view along the way.
Then maybe we could end back up at the fireplace to roast a few marshmallow and make some S'mores. Then we can watch the firefly and check out the night sky from the back deck. We can all share some of those yummy whoppie pie that Maine is getting famous for. I'll bring a few gluten free ones for those that can't have gluten ones, like me… Don't for get the bug dope to keep the bugs away.
I actually have to eat gluten free food myself, but the virtual menus are fun– to pretend we can eat whatever we want, including those forbidden in our diets —love the hayride idea and marshmallows/ smores ! I am trying to make some adult smores with gluten free biscotti dipped into melted dark chocolate, topped with homemade mallows..
Oh, good! I'm glad you could join us! ^_^<3 Kitty
Instead of a tractor, how about using the team of Belgium horses that are there to pull the wagon, we could probably make the whole Dutch Neck loop in an hour and a half or so.
Fun ! love those horses !
Whoa LLC, I'm late but I'm here! It was a long drive. Love the food, love the game, love the kayaks, LOVE THE BLOG CABIN! Party on! Such a wonderful idea…this place cries out for a BIG BLOGGER PARTY! So fun to "see" everyone.
Glad you could make it !! I know–I had to come in from the west coast, but the summer solstice (and looong wait before we enter the BC contest) got me thinking we may need a blogger party…nobody is EVER late to these parties, by the way…I miss a lot of the people who used to blog with us but am glad that folks like you are still here.
This barn dance may go into the weekend, methinks-especially if we go charter that Pirate boat they have down the Maine coast….
Great time for a party LL, when did it start?? I hope I'm not too late…count me in. I'm bringing my Vanilla Wafer Cake, 7 layered salad, a fresh fruit Compote and Florida Hurricane Punch… Also it will be a wonderful way to celebrate my Birthday tomorrow with all my good blogging buddies..I hope Lisa Lane can break away for a few hours to join us…Camac please join us…..Would Love to meet Everyone..
Let the fun begin!!!
Happy Birthday Jennie! Enjoy!
I have a Birthday coming up too July 1st. So we can all dance and party under the stars and in the barn. All of the food sounds sooooo great!
Thank you Ruffy, it's your turn next..Maybe another big Party at the Red Barn. Good food, fun games and dance the night away!!!
Woo hoo–we HAVE to go down the coast and charter that Pirate boat !! Isn't an eye patch so much better than wearing a cardboard party hat on your birthday ?? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jennie/FLA !!
That food sounds yummmy !
Thank you LL and Ruffy for the wishes…I'm ready for the Pirate's boat and it would be more fun wearing a pirate's eye patch than having an old cardboard dunce hat!! How cool is a pirate?
Arrrgghhh http://www.flickr.com/photos/orangebarn/594776264… avast ! we need some rum soaked cakes in honor of pirate lore !
I could not arrange for the cannon firings on such short notice, but the neighbors will be glad they were spared the commotion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GX-OlIYLgQ&fe… xD
LL
Party Barge is ready to go:)! Have not heard from Jersey Girl but glad to pick her up-we can practice our dance moves:)!
Be careful to not get the spiked watermelons mixed up with the one for the alpacas!!:S nothing worse than a drunk alpaca! But I bet they would be good at the spitting contest if you are using the seeds!o.0
Where are Camac and Lisa?? I am sure they are busy with tourist season starting? Please do not miss the party:$
Everything sounds so great!
you are cracking me up, ruffy !! ME state police may get after us if we have drunken alpacas on the loose!Yes, they would no doubt win any spitting contest–had not thought of that.
Ooh, we love virtual parties. Get the pit ready for the steamers, corn, and lobster, throw on a few Maine potatoes too. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats for meat lovers. Strawberry shortcake, blueberry pie with ice cream. Lot's of Sam Adams on ice, and some wine from the winery in Winterport.
We'll listen to some tunes, and do a few line dances. Maybe even the chicken dance. I'll bring along my (dare I say it) plaid flannel shirt in case it gets cool when the sun goes down.
First one to see a Moose wins the door prize. (No, pink elephants don't count.)
Great one, AnneEliseSouth! LOL!!! I'll bring my p-l-a-i-d LL Bean flannel shirt too…:p<3
Too funny, AnneElise !! Maybe Maggie can come along, and pull little kids around in a cart–or does she prefer going out in a canoe for a fishing trip on Peter's Lake ? I think we MUST do a chicken dance….and the dance (?) lilly mentioned, "Cotton Eye Joe"….wow…
You brought up some tasty menu items, they all sound great !
Moose are not invited, since they might fall in love with one of the alpacas–which would be a disaster…but we could try some antlers and a p-l-a;i;d shirt on one of the alpacas to see if we can fool somebody. :p
We can saddle Maggie up, she loves kids, and I don't mean as an appetizer! We will NOT allow her in a canoe, as she doesn't know the meaning of the word dainty, or ladylike. She is great with food spills though.
What would happen if the Moose fell in love with the alpaca? Would you call the offspring a malpaca, or a alpoose? The moose is an odd looking creature indeed, and I'm thinking their offspring might be rather unattractive. Best ban the moose, as you mentioned.
As for the p-l-a-i-d shirts, I say let's come out of the closet, and wear it proud, it's an American and Canadian tradition we should not be ashamed of. Bloggers show us you p-l-a-i-d, winter flannel or summer cotton, flaunt it proudly!
LOL!!! Wear your PLAIDS with PRIDE!!! If you're Scottish, wear your Kilts! xD^_^:*<3 Kitty
Anne, we brought along our family pet, "Rythmn" too. She was so excited over her chance to see the dog barn up close! Her tail has barely stopped wagging since she saw it
She is sporting a Bedazzled pink plaid bandana tied loosely around her neck, it brings out her Lab blonde hair and soft brown eyes. She is sweet as pie, and would never sit in a canoe either, oh no diving in the water after a large stick is more her style.
Oh, Mel, be sure to welcome Rhythm with lots of loving virtual scruffles from me! I bet she'll be belle of the ball in that plaid scarf! :*xD<3 Kitty
More rythm than we can shake a stick at…I loveit ! Rhythm Nation……….B)
AES, if an alpaca even survives courtship with a moose, it would have to be called a malpaca. The word 'mal' having Latin roots to signify 'bad', it would indeed be poor version of an alpaca. :p
Gettin' into too much watermelon, LL?:pB) Kitty
lol, kitty…
What about a Sasquatch?
You are now the resident Blog Cabin 'Squatch expert, Yankee ! xD
LLColeman count me in, I'm attending your virtual barn ParTee right across the street from our beloved, and newly bedazzled Sweet Pea Cottage. I can now cross off attending such a CraZee soiree off my bucket list !!
The family arrived early this morning by schooner, being amateur sailors, yet still full of passion to see Maine's rocky coast we had to be careful we weren't wind jammed and parrish in our travels…
Enough of being late, I'm ready to eat some lobstaah, and freshly grilled corn and three pepper relish. Be careful all, and on the lookout that me & hubby don't tiptoe across the street and hop in the hot tub! We might try to blame our behavior on LL's spiked watermelon, or the consumption of one two many Bananas Foster made with the ice cream Ed brought?? A multi-layered birthday cake for our blogging friends Jennie & Ruffy in their favorite flavors has been ordered from a local bakery, Many More Good Times await !
Mel
Maybe we can all come in BeDazzeled Plaid and start a new Maine thing! Wild!o.0 This is going to be one crazy fun barn dance:)
Fantastic idea, be proud of your plaid, bedazzled or plain, we proudly applaud plaid.
Anne & Ruffy plaid of any style does seem like the perfect attire for our virtual barn hoedown. I'm wearing mine with a skirt and cowgirl boots. Best be prepared in case I come across any alpaca mud pies
Many a talented DiY Crasher & crew member has been spotted sporting striped P L A I D proudly preened and primping while pimping their know-how on the DiY network.
Think Matt Muenster, Matty Blah Blah, Alison Victoria, and yes, even Josh Temple don't wear their fair share of Plaid? Oh My, but they DO, look for it in each episode of this years shows. Talented Tradespeople, or anyone wanting to look casual and relaxed can embrace and flaunt plaid.
Always remember fellow bloggers, not me but Dean & Derek started this saying, "The Trades Are Sexy".
Greetings to all the Hoedown Honey's with their bedazzled plaid!
Save some watermelon for me!
OH! YOU JUST GOTTA ADD SOME FRINGE!! That way when you are doin' the "Watermelon Crawl" you can REALLY get into the parts of the song — "dipped down, spun around, rocked back on her heels,, wiggled and jiggled – beat all you ever saw" !! A bedazzled, fringed, plaid shirt, pants, shorts, skirt or skort! Anyone wearing this for an outfit will surely take the prize in the dance off contest !!!
lilly, I think you ALREADY have won a prize ! yeee haww. I think I will Bedazzle a pair of boots.
As Mel points out, there may be some alpaca mud pies on the ground….
I'll be in my bib overalls and plaid shirt with barn boots.
Hey, that's the spirit ! Glad you joined in.
I am laughing again, Mel !! Ruffy, I think you should contact LLBean with your Bedazzled plaid idea!
You may become a millionaire by your upcoming birthdate !
Ruffy, if the party gets too large or "wild", we can troop down to your party barge and set off some fireworks in honor of your and Jennie/FLA's birthdays . The fireworks will be so pretty over the river. If we can find Glow in the Dark bedazzling jewels for our shirts (and Boots?), then all the better to navigate in the darkness.
Did you say those watermelon seeds are glow-in- the-dark, LL? NO WONDER!!! Pass me some watermelon, please, Let's light up the–er, sky!! Party barge ahoy!!!
:pxD:p Kitty
LL I cannot stop laughing!
Now you have my (of course) BeDazzled invention thinking cap spinning!o.0
Solar powered BeDazzles ?:S One will have to think about their party outfit early in the day? So one would be aglow at the evening party? Now another thought ? Solar powered boots you can wear all day to power the plaid BeDazzled shirt! I will have to give this more thought? LOL!
I did not think of fireworks-good work LL! that is a fantastic idea:p
Well, bellies aglow! IF you swallow those watermelon seeds an' don't spit 'em high in the sky! At least the partee barge will know where to go if we don't…
Who needs electricity–when you got all of us???B);):p<3 Kitty
Solar powered bedazzles, how green, Al Gore would be proud.
He'd also take credit for thinking our bedazzled virtual party all up!!—NOT!;):p Kitty
He would if could get away from his TN house with its glow in the dark energy usage, hypocrite.:@
I hear ya….:x Kitty
Mel, still waiting to hear from Ed…we also hope some folks will check in who have been away from the blog, DonG ,DianaDJL, Clive, Cheryl K (our party menu genius) , Dghawk or Cami–
I have been catching the scent of lobstah in the air and you are just in time for a feast ! <3
I'm waiting for my invite…. I'll bring Chowder
Our partees are always open invitations–come on over, if you dare…! Chowdah sounds perfectomundo!xD;)<3 Kitty
Hi Susan1956 from LLColeman1950–yes, all blogger virtual parties are open to any blogger–and any time ! Even if a party was "last month", it's still going on, in that blog time/space continuum. I mostly was mentioning bloggers who I remembered attending last year's and two years prior soirees on the BC blog. If I have forgotten to mention anyone, I apologize– and bear witness that my memory is not the best…
Hearty congratulations to Jennifer of the longhorn state on winning that great house warming gift package. Enjoy.
Lucky Jennifer!
Nebraska, I am looking for you at the virtual blog party in Waldoboro—the great state of Nebraska needs to be represented too !
Sorry but the College World Series (I got to go to 5 games) and Olympic Swim Trials (friend is letting me "work" so I have a pass) have my attention.
Lucky, lucky lady, must be great seeing those wonderful athletes in action.
Congrats Jennifer. Just think, If you win the cabin…..That's a lot of cheese…..enjoy.
Again Congrats.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I am very excited and cant wait to start enjoying all the wonderful gifts you all chose.
Jennifer Whitworth
Congratulations Jennifer and Enjoy! Thanks so much for blogging a reply — Wicked Cool !!
Congrats Jennifer! So glad you will enjoy your prize.
Hi Vicki..I'm so glad to see you here, I was just looking at all the fires in Utah and was worried that you were effected. I saw where they were evacuating Eagle Mt/ Saratoga Springs residents. I hope you are not in the fire zone. Boy, so many acres have burned already and they haven't got a handle on them so far….Please stay safe and keep us updated on your area!!! Take care Vicki…..
Well I will try it again Jennie/Florida, the adm. deleted my last comment. My daughter in laws sister lives in Eagle Mt and the fire is a half a mile from her house. She was evacuated, but the evacuation center does not allow dogs, and she has 2 so she came down to Cedar city. So we are all hoping for rain. The last fire a few weeks ago was a few miles from our cabin. One of the fire planes crashed and killed the 2 piolets. Thanks for you good thoughts. I hope this one doesn't get zapped…vicki
vicki, good to hear you are safe and hope you, family and friends are not harmed by the fires. Glad your daughter in laws sister had a safe place to go with her dogs. Stay safe!
Hi, Vicki! You, your Family, Friends, First Responders and all in harm's way in the State of Utah are in my heart-felt prayers. May God send plentiful, soaking rain your way, quench the fire and keep you safe!!!<3<3<3 Kitty
vicki, so sorry that you & yours have had to deal with that fear of wildfire. It is the worst…. hoping, as others are, that you will get rain and cooler conditions soon. Hope you can stop by the virtual barn dance…lots of imaginary food, drink and hi- jinks. <3
Thank you, Jennifer, for jumping in and blogging with us! We have a lot of fun here–it just means a lot when we hear from an actual winner–this affirms hope that winning actually happens and that dreams CAN come true… Enjoy your Cabin Comforts! Many blessings to you!!! xD<3 Kitty
