        4. Just voted. VERY CONTEMPORARY! Least modern-looking are the rugs—oh noooooo… Rain showers are nice, but take forever to clean soap from long hair–YIKES! NOT a good selection. No shower massage offered after sloughing through the mudflats for clams! That's hard work, folks!. See for yourselves. Boo hoo hoooo! :'(:'(:S Kitty

          • Outside shower following clamming, for sure.

          • Its really going to take us 2 weeks for these choices- I'd give it 2 days and move on.

Nebraska on January 31, 2012 at 4:59 pm
          • Ditto–and I'm voted out. Ready for next–I think they're forgetting the historic and the handicap needs too—had to remind them moments ago, just below. Hand held necessary for wheel chair bound, I think. You? :) Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on January 31, 2012 at 5:06 pm
          • At least it shouldn't be terribly expensive to convert to a hand held shower head? :D Sure do wish the fix from a gas stove to a wood burning fireplace would be that easy.:(

SID on January 31, 2012 at 6:26 pm
          • Sid you are correct–IF the regular wall shower fitting wins the vote… then it will be a piece of cake to add a hand held shower–no problem. But THE SELECTION, as I'm reading it, is either the RAIN/ceiling shower OR the vertical WALL shower—not both. If Rain wins, we have a major retrofit plumbing expense to install handicap or hand-held shower or any other type that requires a vertical installation. I think, at this stage, Rain is ahead.

I sure hope they are holding us a surprise wood fireplace somewhere in that place! It's the least they can do since they haven't been incorporating most of our requests, though they are crediting us with us designing it in their promos…. Verrrry Interrrestrrrringggg!;):p<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on January 31, 2012 at 6:53 pm
          • The only wood burning fire will probably be a back yard fire pit unless they forego that or make it propane. ;)
OH well, it's their house so they can do as they please. Just wish the advertising and media releases would change to reflect that and not state the online voters & bloggers will make all the important design decisions.

Clive on January 31, 2012 at 7:16 pm
          • Just hoping we will find some planned alternative energy use sources within the house for winter and power outages' use. what can I say. I like to be proactive and plan ahead, don't you?

          • I bet there will be a auxillary generator like at the BC 2011.

DwnSoDwnEaster on February 1, 2012 at 12:01 pm
          • Agreed! We are only making what could be called accessory choices and then we are really limited.

          • It is. And I'm wondering if they will be changing format or anything else? We have been treated differently this season–no doubt about it. Well, I can reference last, only from lurking the blog, for I didn't post, but read (too chicky), and this year, but many have been around a long time and have mentioned or sensed the change,o.0:S^_^<3

Hope you are feeling better every day! :*<3 Kitty

          • LOL. I believe you're being much too generous. I give it 2 hrs max. The result's already done & dusted. Now what do we have left to blog about for the next two weeks? ^_^

P.S. Outdoor shower to wash off mud from clamming? Where to store the kayaks and dinghy and fishing equipment conveniently? Do we like the house turning decisively modern? What else can we talk about? Ideas?

DwnSoDwnEaster on January 31, 2012 at 6:59 pm
          • The kayaks and "stuff" can go in the walkout basement. Ta da! Other stuff to talk about…I got nothing…very busy at work. See you later.

SweetLiz on February 1, 2012 at 9:53 am
          • Good idea, Liz! Had forgotten that, in my efforts to "finish off the basement." LOL! Have a great day! xD:pB)<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on February 1, 2012 at 10:05 am
          • That would be a very long haul for a canoe or kayak. The house is at least 1/3 mile from the Medomak River shore and it's all uphill. ^_^

Maybe we can persuade DIY to include an ATV to haul canoes and buckets of clams up from the river or wood from the other half of the BC plot for the fire pit. There are good, wide ATV trails and a nature trail in the wooded section going down to Gross Pond as well as a track down to the river front over the little bridge. :D

Clive on February 1, 2012 at 11:44 am
          • Actually, I agree with you! Also, I have my eye on building an office area in the basement. I have long been a proponent of having a golf cart to haul things around, including myself, for I cannot always walk far anymore with recurrent severe neuropathy. I had wanted an attached garage for the purpose of keeping the golf cart, of course. We had one old used one at our previous home, which was on acreage and it was such a great help! I think a golf cart uses less fuel and costs less than an ATV? xDB) Kitty

          • Kitty, Love that Golf Cart idea!<3

SID on February 1, 2012 at 6:41 pm
          • We had more FUN with that golf cart! When we had cook-outs, our guests liked to ride and would load up like sardines in a can… It was handy for hauling plants to their destinations, garbage for pickup (won't work in Waldoboro, because refuse is separated ad taken to the transfer station where a good part of it is recycled); but the golf cart would be great to ride over to Gross/Peter's Pond to fish or ice skate, whichever the season calls for, or to haul kayaks or dinghy to water–all types of uses, including the search and rescue of golf balls from pitching and practice shots. :) :D:pB)<3 Kitty

          • Kitty,
May be DIY will have one of each??? An ATV for people that gotta get there and a Golf Cart so one can sight see along the way. :)

Windee on February 1, 2012 at 8:39 pm
          • I think I' one to sit back and enjoy the view–more like the tortoise and not the hare with his ATV. :)

DwnSoDwnEaster on February 1, 2012 at 9:17 pm
          • Kitty Great idea!:p I have a friend who has a home alot of acreage and farms part of it. She goes whizzing around the place on a golf cart and loves it! She too cannot always get around easliy and the gold cart solves that problem.
I personally would keep my kayak/canoe in the barn. I would keep the basement for finishing off if they do not.:po.0

ruffybc on February 3, 2012 at 9:25 am
          • Now, of course, if they built my dream Pavilion down by the waterfront, with the bathroom/shower and kitchen and mosquito netting and hammocks and picnic table and storage and all the bells and whistles described many moons and threads ago, we could store the kayaks et al right handy to the water!. Just handy for high tides, which, of course must be monitored going out and coming back! :) But, yes, in the alternative, that barn is going to be a great storage bin! And the basement–I really want to have an office there and a space for business materials, fax, secure files, etc. This storage and workroom would be built for my hubby, so he can commute a lot and have a satellite office to commute to. :)

I have gone to different sports events and much to my suprise liked seeing the games in person. I don't like sports on TV unless it's the Harlem Globe Trotters but that is it.

          • I won the use of the wedding venue where we had our wedding. That's definitely the most valuable. Won about $50.00 in the lottery once. Won a Japanese maple at a garden event, a cookbook at Weight Watchers, various $20.00 gift cards over the years….guess I'm pretty lucky!

          • Yeah, my husband claims the wedding venue win was rigged, but I like to think not.
I also won a prize in grad school for a paper that I wrote. That one was a Godsend because it was near the end of my last semester, and I was outta $$$. I had quit my little part time job, and was really down to almost nothing, and that whopping $50.00 came in handy!

          • Windee, I've won a beautiful hand made quilt, an all expense paid trip to see the Super Bowl (for me and hubby), and a trip for two to Ireland. I'm not sure if all these wonderful prizes over the years mean I'm lucky or just OLD! LOL<3

You keep winning those trips and don't worry about age… I would say "lucky" but if you find your older,.I would suggest you go on the trips if given the chance, even if you have to crawl…lol Can always get a scooter if need be :) ….Good Luck :) ……Windee ;)

          • Have to reply to self so I can get in the conversation….Hope I don't wind up below…Well anyway….I won a gift certificate to a man's clothing store back in the days of the dinosaur. They didn't have anything I could wear, so boyfriend went shopping :) I won a nice basket, nice souvenir of the event I was at. Next and latest win, was a new toilet bowl! Yes folks I really won a toilet bowl. Gave it to friends of mine who were redoing their bathroom. If it was a tub might have kept it and turned it in to a planter but the toilet bowl had to go since I already have a throne….and not the Queeny kind…LOL

LOL…Actually some friends of mine werre going to a plumbe'rs expo and invited me to go.It was interesting, as Moen and Kohler had items on display, loved that! Got tickets for raffle and the rest is history. Don't know much about toilet bowls except how to clean one, but all the plumbers were saying, Wow that's the newest toilet, and top of the line too, your got a really NICE one…..LOL so that's how I got the flush…..Windee :) LOL

          • The only thing I ever won was a ham…but it was a godsend for my roommate and me…we were just moving in to a duplex, had barely any ( hand me down) furnishings, spent all our funds on the rent and deposits and utility costs…not even much $ for groceries. We were the grocery store's 500th customers, and the prize was a small ham–you'd think we had won a pot of gold—college student days, LOL.

          • LoL……See, ya get what you need when you need it!! It was God sent!!! The 500th customer! Would you ever have guessed you would win something by being the 500th customer? God knew who needed it and that both of you would be grateful and made sure the two of you took it home! That's a great story. What a nice memory from your college days! Thanks for sharing!….Windee :)

I have the same luck. I am forever laughing when I have a simple 50/50 chance at something to turn my way and of course, it never does:S Why I play the lottery?-You just never know? But, like they say if you don't play, you can't win? I guess I feel the same about entering for these homes-always hold out hope:p You just never know:po.0 God knows and I say my prayers;)

          • Ruffybc,
Always remember, you have just as much of a chance to win as anybody else! Don't count the losses. There is always the chance the winner will be you!
I tell myself the same thing about the lottery, can't win if you don't play. So If I want a chance to win have to play! I'm saving my tickets and might use them to wall paper the bsthroom .LOL Windee :)

          • You are right on..in fantasy it seems so wonderful, but in actuality..well you need to shower not be rained upon.

candyloverone on February 4, 2012 at 1:21 am
          • Thanks, candyloverone! :) I mentioned somewhere above that I have a rain shower and its nice at times, but it forces you to soak yourself at once, there's no choice to get your face out while letting the water wash your body–its all or nothing! The shower pulsating massage is important to me, as I have severe back arthritic spinal damage and poly neuropathy. The massage is soothing! Can't do that with the rain shower! I like to have the option of a regular shower and the handheld. The hand held also is good when one cleans the shower stall, for Pete's sakes… Gotta' have the SET! And it is an ADA NECESSITY for anyone with any handicap need such as a wheelchair or walker.:)B)<3 Kitty

DwnSoDwnEaster on February 4, 2012 at 11:55 am
        5. Yeah, new voting selections! So far all of my choices are in the lead – that's a first for this BC. Of course, there are only ~500 votes cast so far:S Love, love, love the rainshower head. I don't have at home, but have experienced them in hotels and they rinse you off so quickly even with my extremely thick hair.

windsmurf on January 31, 2012 at 1:58 pm
          • I have a rain shower (it's action is way too light to rinse shampoo from my long hair) plus a dual shower head with massage selection and a separate hand held, which I need. While the selections are very attractive they don't allow for alternatives. Pus, for an antique cape they are totally modern looking and don't fit a restoration to "historic roots." The rain shower hangs from the ceiling which is fine, but I want to have connectivity in the wall as well. A steam shower would have been fantabulous! I don't object at all to having a rain shower but need the other type too. I do need the action of the massage as I have severe poly neuropathy and the massage is indicated to help alleviate some of my pain. DIY please consider adding a regular shower head too. I can purchase my own massage shower head, if you don't install one, but the option with the rain shower will help solve problems I and many physically challenged folks must deal with. A hand held is necessary, for example, for many handicapped people, especially in a wheelchair. Think of the logistics and plumbing needs that I am describing please. This falls under the "Americans with Disabilities Act." Thanks so much for your kind consideration of this matter!:)<3 Kitty

          • All good points.

windsmurf on February 1, 2012 at 4:05 pm
          • Thanks for your comment, Windsmurf! I don't object to having a rain shower, but I wouldn't prefer one without a regular one on the wall. One Must get head/face wet, with a ceiling mount and cannot do it strategically as with an angled, wall mount shower head or even a hand held one. For all the reasons above, I would have to have both, with separate controls–or only the wall mount. The decor, so far, is missing the boat on the sense of antique style and it troubles me too, but I'm sure the master bath will be beautiful–just not in keeping with the historic nature of the house–AT ALL! :| o.0:) <3 Kitty

        6. love all the options and would not mind seeing any of them incorporated into the home!!! especially loved the tub filler…

nice job, can't wait to see them in the home when its done…

          maria_w_in_nj on January 31, 2012 at 1:59 pm
          • I agree, I like the tub-filler and the rain showerhead. The other otions for those two are fine, but so ordinary. There is nothing in the selections however that I would have any heartburn over, they are all nice.

windsmurf on January 31, 2012 at 2:29 pm
          • I picked the hole in the wall tub filler finally and thinking hard on it. My only problem with it is if there is a leak how hard will it be to get to the piping to repair – while both configs would require inside wall access, there is also the question of low water pressure would the hole in the wall config be more likely to keep the inside wall area wet while the spigot config would still spill into the tub… Just thinkin'…

vemont on February 3, 2012 at 4:23 pm
        7. I'm confused on the color selection . The "creamy" and "white raisin" shown on the voting page are reversed from the "creamy" and "white raisin" on the Sherwin Williams website. Which is which?

Sharmar on January 31, 2012 at 2:03 pm
          • Good question, hopefully, they will go with the color selected and not the name if it has been reversed.

windsmurf on January 31, 2012 at 2:07 pm
          • Good catch. That's why everyone should look at all the info and read about the choices carefully. I hope that DIY and Mary are paying attention to the blog.

          • Yikes. I think I just voted for the wrong color…

            Debra G. on February 1, 2012 at 10:45 pm
          • Last week it started out with the right colors with the right names, then for some reason switched. I think they're gonna need to come up with an alternate color, because there's no way the voting will be right. People look at a color and if they didn't see it before the colors flipped, they won't know what they're voting for.

bluemalak on February 8, 2012 at 12:24 pm
          • Incorrect! For 3 days, until the Webmaster finally altered it, the colors and names were swittched. NOW it's correct. However, I agree that DIY should have started the vote all over again and not assumed that people were voting on the color and not checking. That shows a low regard for the intelligence of the voters and bloggers. IMO. However it follows a pattern of apparent disrespect towards the bloggers and voters from some elements within DIY this year. Apparently, we're a bunch of cyberstalking crazies too.

Sally on February 8, 2012 at 2:33 pm
        8. Hate rainshower heads, since I don't have to wash my hair everyday. It's hard to pick a tub faucet without knowing the style of tub.

MissAlex on January 31, 2012 at 2:19 pm
        9. Intresting. DIY is using the exact same rustic refined color (Sherwin Williams) collection that has already been used in the 2012 HGTV dream home. There are other colors, you know? No need to be a copy cat. o.0 lol
