Last Day To Enter

The day has finally come. You have until today at 5 p.m. EST to enter the sweepstakes to win a new home: Blog Cabin 2010, located in the picturesque town of Bethel, New York, right within earshot of the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The location of Woodstock!

Just imagine what life would be like if you won: Lazy days, sitting on that amazing front porch, listening to roosters crowing in the distance and enjoying the view of the horse farm. Or relaxing on the back deck, taking in the breathtaking views of the rolling hills and valleys, or cozying up to that amazing fire pit! And don’t even get me started on interior spaces — the master bathroom is my favorite room.

Let’s muse today about winning the home. What would you do? How would you live? What would you do first?

  2. Well, after today it's all over but the waiting, and hoping. can't wait to see who wins!

  3. Someone is about to be very happy! Anyone know how and when DIY announces the winner?

Jenny on October 4, 2010 at 11:38 am
    • According to the sweepstakes "rules"
The Grand Prize Winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries on approximately October 22, 2010 by Ritway, Inc., an independent judging organization, ("Sweepstakes Administrator") and will be contacted either in person or by overnight courier and phone on or about October 27, 2010.
      Good luck everyone!

MollMick on October 4, 2010 at 2:45 pm
    • Thanks for the clarification, I am glad that we now know the process as it was put forth. So the winner will be notified before Halloween.

      rosieGirl2 on October 4, 2010 at 7:52 pm
    • And the Urban Oasis drawing is supposed to be the 28th with the winner notified by 11/15. Big next few weeks.

OmahaLady on October 5, 2010 at 2:06 pm
    • With the winner being notified on or about the 27th October, we've got about three weeks to plan out our daily activities at Blog Cabin 2010 from Day One of the winning visit until we have to pry ourselves away, back to reality, and begin sorting the details of the move…or the road to your very own vision of the dream.

    • I know a lot of work will have to be done for this elegant old home to reach its full potential, but I surely hope that as much of its history as possible can be integrated into the final design. This house needs to have big, airy rooms and lots and lots of light pouring into it to smell the air and hear the sounds of the bay. What a blessed person the winner will be. The Chesapeake is a special place, and this house has lasted from a special time.

  4. Hi Jenny, I think, if I understood what I read correctly someone should know the results around October 23rd. Can't recall exactly where I read this perhaps it was on the rules.

I too, entered for my last time just a few moments ago; however, just before I did – I took a moment to look around the interior a little and then moved on to the exterior front and examine the landscape efforts. This home is a real act of love and tenderness. Wow, what an amazing team from desperate landscapes. I love the home more than any home I've entered for. Best wishes everyone.

  5. Mary BC 2010 has been so beautifully renovated I would imagine whoever wins will be extremely thrilled, and the rest extremely jealous! I do appreciate the anticipation of BC 2011 and knowing another great year of BC is planned to help soften the loss. I think the first thing I would do is explore the home, and then play some basketball. I would feel so lucky…I don't think I would miss a single shot. Good luck everyone!

    • Mary, how could I forget Johnny D hands over the key to the lucky winner? Let me back up and say I'd give Johnny D a big smooch and hug for being a wonderful host, blogging with us, and making the shows so much fun to watch.

  6. Good Luck to all…… its a beautiful home an some one will be very lucky …..

  7. My entry's in and fingers are crossed, now it's just the waiting. Can't get DIY (without serious upgrade to my cable) so if I win it will be a true surprise. Here's hopin', good luck all.

Would definitly visit the house and stay for a short time but we would not be able to retain the property due to job status and the economy. My wife works, and her job is not transferable; I'm looking for a job and wouldn't try to move without something already secured.

DGustaf on October 4, 2010 at 1:04 pm
    • Hi Don! While NYC is a bit too far to commute to each day without a two-hour+ travel time each way, there is Binghamton, NY, which is a pretty sizable city, just up Rte 17. It would still be a commute but more doable. There is also Port Jervis. I'm not sure what you are looking for ,but these two cities may be able to offer employment so that if you were blessed to win, you may just be able to keep it. Best of luck to you in the sweeps and in the job search.

DianaJDL on October 5, 2010 at 9:08 am
    • Binghelltown is a pretty sizeable city???? Maybe if you are an ant. Binghamton is a hellish third world town with no jobs. Try Bosnia first, then maybe Estonia….your odds are waaaay better.

I have been to BHT and lived to tell about it and it wasn't very pretty….disturbing and impoverished and all the things you don't want to even think about much less experience.

Buttwhistler on October 28, 2010 at 10:49 pm
    • Buttwhistler, how long ago were you in "Binghelltown"? Regarding Binghamton being a "pretty sizeable city", it is, in relation to the surrounding areas. And while I may be 5'2" and 103 lbs., I am hardly an "ant". Lol! True, Binghamton has declined, but it seems to be embarking on a renaissance of sorts in that its present mayor is working to take on restoring the blighted neighborhoods. Other cities have done so successfully. Also, upon checking out employment opportunities, there are some sizeable employers with branches in the area: AT&T, Verizon, AXA Advisors, ENSCO, Inc. BAE Systems and civilian jobs with the US Navy, in addition to healthcare and retail jobs. Perhaps, it was a hellhole in the past, but it could be enjoying a new beginning.

  8. October 4th…the last day to enter for the 2010 Blog Cabin. I can't help thinking of Dusty Springfield's words of wisdom for some reason:

If you're thinkin' this is what true love is, then
Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreaming each night of its charm
This last entry may get you the farm!

And were I to win this Blog Cabin, one of the first things I might do is sit myself out on that back deck, take in the awesome view like MARY suggests, and just drink in the wonder of it all. Maybe some of the original music from the Woodstock Festival playing in the background to remind me how the party started here years ago on Max Yasgur's dairy farm, right on through to 2010 in the DIY Bethel, New York Blog Cabin.

    • I love it, D.B. this was a great song, and your rendition even better…

      rosieGirl2 on October 4, 2010 at 7:54 pm
    • Thank you, rosieGirl2. I don't know about better, but I think my rendition is certainly more appropriate for the Blog Cabin sweeps!

    • Loved the song DB.

NancyBee on October 5, 2010 at 7:47 am
    • Very creative, DBCoop! You just reminded me of a movie my husband and I saw not too long ago: "Taking Woodstock". Great movie! Its loosely based on how Woodstock came to be in Bethel and is told from the perspective of a young man whose parents own a rundown old motel. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend it!

DianaJDL on October 5, 2010 at 9:38 am
    • I saw that too! Fun movie! Think I need to watch it again while I'm waiting to win! Lol!

Cabin Crazy on October 5, 2010 at 5:54 pm
    • I did see it, and enjoyed it. Aside from the historical aspect, it was well done—much better than I'd expected. The crusty old mother was such a kick.

DBCoop on October 5, 2010 at 6:00 pm
    • I agree with all of you. This home is the best from all the others I have seen. I haven't been back on for awhile as i had to pull myself back to the reality of this home is anyones. This home is the perfect home for me and I do truly love it. As I have previously said that I would sell my home in a heartbeat and move there. The person who wins this home will truly be blessed. Even though we all have had our different opinions from the beginning on how we wanted it reno'd, it truly came out beautifully. I stated early on to everyone to try and see the movie "Taking Woodstock", as it would give everyone a perspective on what went on back in the 60's. I grew up during this time. They were my teen years. The music brought everyone together but there was so much history going on at that time and the turmoil in our country for people to learn and read about, if you weren't born during that time. Again, thank you everyone for your friendship on this site. Good luck to everyone who has entered. Thank you DIY for this opportunity for someone to win this great home. See you on BC 2011.
