Kitchen Impossible Cleans Up

Hi bloggers,
Happy Friday! I hope you are entering daily for the chance to win a trip to Blog Cabin 2010 in Bethel, New York. And don’t forget to vote up to ten times per day for the trip itinerary.
John DeSilvia just finished work with the the crew from Kitchen Impossible, and I hope to post his blog entry in the next few days. I received word that he injured his foot in some form or fashion … more details to come!

The kitchen looks much nicer with the lighting and a closer view. Is the stove gas or electric? I also particularly like the three hanging lights. And the shelves do appear to be very heavy duty.
The stove burners kinda look electric to me, but the camera angle is such that it's almost impossible to tell for sure, isn't it? And yes, I, too, am glad they put pendant lamps over the eat-in peninsula.
The shelves aren't growing on me at all. I think it was a missed opportunity for great storage in upper cabinets, a few of which could have attractive glass or frosted glass fronts for decorative display pieces.
I can't figure it even with a magnifier. I can only guess it is an electric range. There is no lower knob for the oven so perhaps that is the clue. Also there appears to be another shelf above the door to the stairwell. The flower arrangement would be a prime target for our cats. I really do like that stock pot and the sink and faucets too.
Could be a Bosch Sealed Gas Range HGS728 from Sears. From what I can see matching knobs and the shape of the panel, that is the closest match. There is an electric one HES728 but the burner don't sit up enough to give the shadow that can be seen in the blog kitchen picture.
Wow Ladybyrd , you know your ranges ! I trust in your observations completely with such a detailed reply.
This kitchen ROCKS!!! After Marc and his talented team got their hands on the BC kitchen it is "Kitchen Impossible" no more. The new kitchen looks amazing, I love every single detail. Thanks for such a crisp and "showy" picture. The new kitchen looks like a sparkling jewel…..just lovely. Once again I will say I am anxiously looking forward to the BC specials and seeing how all of this was accomplished.
Mary, thanks for a new thread! After more than 700 blogs, the old one was getting rather, well, "bloggy".
Mary, thank you so much for the new thread. It is greatly appreciated.
John, I hope your foot gets better soon! Word is on the street that Dancing With The Stars has their eye on you!
I can see you doing the Fast Step now! Thanks for all the hard work you and the crew did on the BC. Can't wait to see more.
John, sure hope your foot's not hurt too badly. Please tell us none of the dishes fell off the kitchen shelves onto it! Be sure to let Mary know how you're doing, so she can tell us. Rest up and get well soon.
I think I can make out 2 door handles on the fridge in the pic at the top of this page! Yay!!
Still hoping Marc or John (or one of the hosts) makes some spectcular bar stools for the living room side of the pennisula! Host-made would be so much better than store bought.
JeanieM, I agree that would be super nice to have the bar stools custom made. If they were custom built, they could have more of a "cabin " charm. The beautiful new kitchen has a nice " modern" feel, with the open shelves being more "cabin". I think your idea adds a chance to have a little more balance between the two design elements. Don't get me wrong, I think the two elements already work beautifully together, but I also think four "cabin looking" stools woud enhance their theme.
As Carrie Miracle would say, that does indeed sound more "cabinistic". And I'm all for anything that adds the truly rustic touches this home needs to make it cabin-like. Host-made bar stools sound like a terrific idea to me.
I agree with both of you. I love the counterspace. I have very little in my home. I hope John's foot is okay. Can't wait to hear from them.
OMG the kitchen is awesome. I love the colors and everythin, but I still wish it was little more rustic.
Me, too! But then, I'm pretty much "the extreme rustic kid", always at the extreme-rustic-preference end of the blogger spectrum. There are lots of us that emphatically prefer the rustic look right along with you!
Agreed. I even like cooking over an open fire in those old fashioned fire places that have an oven in the wall for baking bread. I grew up the old fashioned way. My mother was old country and we cooked everything from scratch. We grew our own fruit trees, had our vegetable and flower gardens. We canned our fruits and vegetables for the witner. I miss those days.
MaryMead, that's how I was brought up too. I am nostalgic for those times as well..those time could be tough…but not so tough as times seem now, even with all of our modern conviences…
That's because living was much lower-keyed back then. A more peaceful time.
The completed kitchen looks awesome! What a nice space… I really love the stainless steel appliances, the backsplash, counters, floor & cabinets…..Warming up to the shelving above the counters, it's a different look. I hope John's foot is o.k.. Let us know how he's doing……. Thanks for another great job!
Hi everybloggie,
The kitchen looks fabulous, I especially like what they've done with the black rad.
John de Silvia… Well, looking on the bright side about your foot injury …perhaps one of the bedrooms could be " Pirate Themed" in your honor, and we could send you a parrot and a peg leg :O) Seriously, tho' ~ hope you didn't break your instep or lateral maleolus, or you'll be on crutches for a long time.
All the best!
Being a 'Southerner' all my life, I feel left out or just plain dumb, but what is a black rad? Thanks GoldieLocksBear
She's talking about the black radiator (rad for short) that's in the kitchen. The camera man is kind of blocking it's view in this picture. It's next to the door that leads into the laundry/mud room. Hope this helps.
Does that mean we clamored to get that door moved in order to gain kitchen space ….. only to gain a radiator instead of kitchen space? Where would they have put it if we hadn't begged for them to move the door?
That's a good question.
Yep, looks like you summed it up LilB . How funny. well…yes and no.
I have always thought it was silly to have heat in the kitchen, especially since there is a fire place and a rad very close by. I live were it gets very cold and we have never had a heater of any kind in the kitchen and never needed one. I would rather of had the space instead of a rad.
