A Beautiful Boat Bed; Time is Running Out

September 19, 2008
by Watson in Uncategorized

Salutations Devoted Bloggers,

I hope everyone got the chance to see Jimmy DiResta’s incredible, one-of-a-kind trundle boat bed assembled last night. How cool is this? I loved how the Twins put together the space-saving Tulip Poplar bookshelf as well. The guys just make it look so easy.

Anyway, it was a great show and has me really looking forward to the finale that airs next Thursday, Sept. 25 @ 9pm ET. I also wanted to remind you that time is running out on your chance to enter to win Blog Cabin! You’ve got until 5pm Monday, Sept. 29. Enter every day!

Warm wishes for a wonderful weekend,

Watson, DIYnetwork.com Manager

  1. Yes Watson we enjoyed the shows last night! I am saddened though that next week is the finale, went by way to fast for me. I do look forward to seeing who wins!

  2. Thanks for the new thread, Watson. I’ve always maintained that Jimmy DiResta’s boat bed is a work of art. Hope that the winner of the cabin truly appreciates it. If not, there are plenty of us out here willing to take it off the winner’s hands! lol.
    Best to Helen!

  3. Watson
Will they be doing a show that actually shows the winner of this years home and an update on last years winner?

Carrie Miracle on Sep 19th 2008 at 1:52 pm

  4. Thanks for the update Watson. Will you (DIY) be doing something for CabinCraver? Did you have a computer slueth try to find her?
OMG…I am going to be on a train trip. Trains do not have TV. I am going to miss that episode!!! No e-mail, no tv, who can I call? (and don’t anybody say ghostbusters I am about to match Carrie’s freakout. LLL

  5. Hi Carrie: Wondering how when the viewers will learn who wins, too. Below is the information found in another area of this website as to How Winner will be Determined. October 8th, October 10th are important dates, as well as five days after the winner is notified (or is attempted to be notified) so, I would surmize that the actual winner will not be known to us until mid-October at the earliest. WATSON: Is that the case?

The Grand Prize Winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries on approximately October 8, 2008 by Ritway, Inc., an independent judging organization, (”Sweepstakes Administrator”) and will be contacted either in person or by overnight courier and phone on or about October 10, 2008. Limit one (1) prize per person per household. Sweepstakes Administrator’s decisions with respect to Grand Prize Winner and other matters pertaining to the Sweepstakes shall be final. The Grand Prize Winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and release of liability and publicity (where permitted), and return same, properly executed, within five (5) days of issuance of prize notification. If Main Sponsor is unable to contact a potential prize winner within five (5) days of the initial attempt to contact, if a potential prize winner fails to complete and return all requested forms by the specified date or if a potential prize winner fails to comply with any of Main Sponsor’s requirements or decisions, his/her prize will be forfeited, and an alternate prize winner shall be selected. By entering into the Sweepstakes, all entrants consent to the use of their name, photograph, likeness, biography, voice and/or video for advertising and promotional purposes, including online announcements, worldwide and without limitation and without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. The odds of winning the Grand Prize depends upon the number of eligible entries received for the applicable drawing.

  6. I have always read this…but what does it mean….consent to use the “likeness” ? Like what? Would they get someone who looks “LIKE” the winner? LOL I’ve always wondered????

    Trish212 on Sep 19th 2008 at 2:54 pm

  7. Heading South: Welcome Back … sounds like you have been keeping really busy but took the opportunity to check in with us so we would not worry about you (and, you know how we are about each other - we would have just kept pestering you until you posted again! wink) Thanks for your kind words towards me … my comment (last area) about getting through things TOGETHER most certainly applies to all those that meet along life’s path — one more sure sign that we were all drawn to this area for a reason, and not just the cabin build.

Keight: Thanks for the dates. So… Even when the last day to enter arrives, the deal is still not done. If I read the information correctly, there could even be the need to draw another name from the entries. Wouldn’t that be sad…to have your entry chosen and you somehow aren’t home when Ahmed (or someone from Ritway) comes to your door, or you miss the call or mail delivery. Yikes! Now that would be a story to tell…a very sad tale, indeed!

BlognBob: Great news about getting the word out even farther! About that drink: Have your local Mom and Pop places started putting it in a less user friendly area?

Clive: Really liked your word choice: Genuine. Smoke and Mirror Experts may well be appropriate, too, but only time will tell.

Helen: Keeping good thoughts going your way!

Misty & Rich, BlognBob, Cathy,…. excellent updates and reporting on our friend Helen. THANKS

Carrie: Let us know if Watson sends you any inside informtion as to when the episode showing the winner will air … He may just surprise you with a little advance warning. I know you will Share the wealth with all if it comes your way! You are so good at keeping us in the loop!

  8. I am thrilled to see this home. Its absolutely the most beautiful and majestic home I have seen in a
long time. You all did a fabulous job and the location is perfect for this home. It would be a blessing in disguise to win this home. I wish it could be me and my family because I have always wanted to be in paradise and this is definitely just that..”Paradise”. Out of all the recent dream homes built by far, this is my favorite.
I live in a hurricane stricken area (Gulfport,MS) and hope one day to be able to move to such a place.
The area and the construction of this home is incredible …its perfect! My grandchildren would love this home especially the oldest who is 9 yrs old, Nicolas. He would see this as an adventure! My littlest grandson who lives with me and my son, his name is Connor (4 yrs old) would love the childs bedroom. He is fascinated with boats and would love that special boat bed.(that what he calls it. His dad is my son,who absolutely would love living on the water, to fish and raise his son in a great environment.

Thank you DYI for sharing the excitement and joy in seeing such a beautiful “natural” home being
constructed. I’ll keep watching, registering, and hoping that DYI would choose us to live in “Paradise.

  9. Trish 212: Just read your comment….yes, that likeness clause conjures up lots of silly ideas and unique possibilities! If you have some free time, you should check out a website called ReasonablyClever.com It allows a visitor to make a “likeness” of themselves in a most entertaining and amazing way. I would not be doing the website justice with my attempt at a description …. just go and check it out….you won’t be disappointed. There are many things to see and do there, and you can even buy the likeness you create. I was thinking about Ahmed’s comment about Baseball cards of all the on-site building team. The little figures at ReasonablyClever.com would be even better. Just imagine —- Ahmed, and the twins and everyone else, including our own mysterious Watson in little figures that DIY could offer for sale. We could even make likenesses of each other, or what we imagine each of us looks like (!)… the possibilities for fun are always around if you just know where to look!

  10. Show last night was great as usual. Does anyone else think some railing on hot-tub steps would be apropos[sp?]? looks like an accident waiting to happen! Still would like to see entry 1/2 bath and laundry room-besides the shelves. And will we get to see Ramp to side porch? By the by, thanks to Barb T. for answer to last questions. Have a great weekend ya’ll.

  11. Hi Watson,
Can’t believe the last episode is next week. This has been great! Will ALL the episodes be shown after the 25th? You know, like the mini-blog cabin-a-thon of previously televised blog cabin episodes for Labor Day. Sounds like a great idea to me. What about you?

Lessie on Sep 19th 2008 at 4:09 pm

  12. Keight: Maybe the DIY crew can have some bobble-heads made as souveniers of the Blog Cabin. LOL

  13. Oh my god this house is breath taking it made my eyes well up with tears when I just took the tour. Cause I know I will never get to live in a house of this beauty. But it will be cool to see somebody get the chance of a life time winnig it! My husband is a carpenter by trade, he is amazed at the house too. We both love the woodwork and the natural beauty of the wood through out the house. I wish we would have started watching this when it first started. DIY and HGTV are great channels!@!

  14. Clive …. One could only imagine an entire new line of Barbie-esque figures for the discriminating/demanding public…. Or, better yet, SuperBlogger Heros … Ahmed — Man of “Never Stops Talking When he Nails his Fingers Together” OR Watson — By day a mild manner Network Manager…By Night a mild manner Network Manager (…OR IS HE?)

  15. Blognbob: It is the Mother, the surgeon. If not right let me know.

Carrie: I enjoy your review of the shows. I see them but enjoy reading your review. It is kind of like seeing a movie and reading the book.

I like the safe and that was a great idea but I am concerned where it was placed. It is bad enough it is at floor level and then covered with a vent but then placed the shelves on the same wall. I hope the winner is young and can get down on the floor and even may have to lay down to take the vent cover off and then punch in the code and turn the key. I have a safe in a closet and it is hard to find and also have to get low or on the floor to open. The next one I get, I will install at just under 5 feet high. As I get older my knees and hip don’t make that an easy task. It would be interesting to see someone take the cover off and open it when the pantry shelves are full. I would say it will be hard enough without items on the shelves. It maybe a little dark down there once the shelves have goods on them.

I hope Helen’s husband saved the shows for her. She would like them.

I do agree some kind of hand rail on one side of the steps to the hot tub would be needed. That is another thing as I get older I use when going up or down stairs. Also glasses make things move or look strange when you look through the very bottom of the lens. If going more than a few steps I take my glasses off. I like the job the twins did on the steps and the tulip shelf. Does anyone know why it is called tulip?

I have to go. I need to call my mother-in-law and see if she wants me to pick her up for dinner. This has been a Friday date for more than 35 years. There are a few times we don’t get together but it happens most Friday nights. We will be eating here tonight. It smells good.

If any one talks with Helen give her my best and I have the others having surgery in my prayers.

  17. A. muse. I hope Watson or other diy workers would let us know about that! I sure would try to let you know if I find out! I suspect it will be just a quick video vlog like last year annoucing the winner! But you know me I want more! I would love to see the family who wins at the cabin and have their story told of where they come from and what they want to do with the cabin keep or sell. Or even see a real life blog cabin surprise giveaway given to someone live & unsuspectingly and them just be so excited they can’t hide it. That is if Diy could sneak a surprise over on the winner! Hgtv dreamhome hasn’t had alot of enthusiastic winners, it seems they know most of the time. Just let us know operation giveaway if you could show up at our house. So we can have those cluttered corners cleaned and dust the cobwebs from the corners. Don’t want our dirt to show on camera. LOL I also would love to hear about the last years winner, how things worked out for them with blogcabin or at least see some happy memory photos of the families at blogcabin 07 all in the last show ” a winners show” and a tease for the next blogcabin. Please!!!!!!

  18. Yep Frances, You guessed it. Good Job!
Clive, Bobbleheads would be fun. And maybe one with Ahmed . Nail gun in one hand.
Oh, this is sad. Only a few more days left. I will have to ask : Watson, with your well defined wisdom can you please tell us when the next cabin series will start? Or are you sworn to secrecy?
Did they show the finished driveway yet? I am still out of the loop with regards to that.
I will be excited to know where this new blog home might be this time. And even more excited in hopes one of our blogging family will win this one.
Dinah, you are also still in our prayers.
Helen, You will have to catch up now. But we can help.

  20. Hi …..

When we went for a boat ride last night you can see that they are still working at the Cabin to finish it up as they were putting brick on the back side of the retaining wall by the garage. Looks good…. We will walk over tomarrow and let you know what else we see.

  21. Hi, I normally try to get everything in on one entry but I just called Helen to see if she would indeed be back either Saturday or Sunday. NOPE!
She won’t be “home” until Monday now. And they will be bringing her home in an ambulance because they do not want her bending her body anymore than she has to. I am not sure , or should I say she is not sure she will be able to blog at all. The computer is in the living room and she is supposed to stay completely off her leg for the next 3 to 4 months. I think she will find a way but she does not have a laptop. And can’t afford one with the deck they are building. Helen is still in great spirits aside from it all.

BlognBob on Sep 19th 2008 at 6:03 pm

  22. BlognBob,
I know the answer to your riddle. Unfortunately, I’ve heard it before.
    Carrie,
Thanks for the info about the program. I don’t get to see them until they come onto the website either. Was it you or Sally who gave us the initials, way back when, about a secret? I think I now know it was the hot tub.
Cathy, Misty & Rich and BlognBob,
Thanks for the updates on Helen. Tell her that I miss her and she is still in my prayers.
Any info on Dinah from anyone? Good to get a short report from Heading South. I like Candice Olson and Joan Steffend as well. Joan was a much better host to greet the Dream Home winners for HGTV than the last one.

  23. Hey bob I hate that for Helen she’ll go stir crazy but it sounds like she has plenty of neighbors who are willing to keep her busy and help out. And maybe Katie or hubby Mike can print off the blogs for her to read and then type what she wants blogged. Nancy bee your welcome. No I believe it was both Sally and Helen who informed us of the Hot tub when they were walking through. I’m glad they included one it’ll be alot of fun for the winners. You know what though I sure would love the honors of having an all access pass to the blogcabins and reporting all the surprises that have been done along the way. It would be alot of fun watching the build and seeing it all firsthand and telling the bloggers firsthand through a fans eyes. I really enjoyed my visit and all the blogs, videos, pictures and shows. I love the story the blogcabin has told us and all the people it took to build it! It’s a beautiful journey!

  24. This is just amazing the boat bed….wow. Think of the memories some kid would have of sleeping there.
I wanted to say just like everyone else how fun it is to think about winning this gem. However, I have taken some really great ideas away from this cabin. I keep a folder of all the things I see in cabins and add them as we go alone. So without winning the home I really have won. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas. It has been really a nice adventure. Hope you do it again soon.
    Cheer to the boat bed!
    Peace out- Tracy

  25. OMG~ I would read stories to my children if they were small again. I spent to many nites hanging off the edge of the cotttage bed reading, praying they would fall asleep, but, it’s a trundle bed. I would enjoy that now, if I had grandchildren, no need to leave.

  26. Hi all and thanks so much for all your prayers. Trish I meant to tell you when I put TOM. I meant tomorrow not his name was Tom sorry! I see you realized it though and Jerry says thanks to all of you he said it’s so nice to know other people care! He doesn’t have a very caring family well what’s left of them! I know that sounds bad but I tell the truth in fact that is my nickname truthgiver. I have been going by that for years (truthgiver) then one day I googled my nickname and they’re are others oh no! Well anyway I’m the female one and a Christian just thought I’d tell u because some of them have nasty mouths!
Anyway you can tell I’m add the way I jump around but anyway Tuesday Jerry has to go back and take another test and he is really dreading it they said they are going to put some medicine in his vain he had this before and had a bad experience. The nurse told him if he couldn’t stand it she would stop the test and when he ask her to she didn’t so he is talking himself out of going and I’m wanting him to do it because we need to know how bad his condition is I don’t want to lose my best friend! So please pray he goes!
I missed last night’s show Jerry wanted to go to Wal Mart to buy Aaron a sponge bob hoodie since I went yesterday while he was at work and bought the granddaughters some things on sale. I am a thrifty shopper always have been I squeeze a penny until it screams, yells, and falls out before I let it go. You have too especially these days RIGHT!
I have a question I was looking at the 360 again and I guess I’ve missed it somehow but how do you enter the upstairs loft, etc from the down stairs? I looked in every room and didn’t see any stairs! I know it’s there but Aaron who’s putting on my tennis shoes right now and I can’t find it! That could be why Aaron but he is so sweet and cute! Someone please tell me where they are the stairs that is.
Dang it I read Carrie’s blog so I would have seen the stairs Ahmed went up if I had gotten to watch last night! ps thanks for your prayers Carrie!
Ingrid we went to Pigeon Forge right before Christmas a couple of times several years ago. I love it it is so beautiful there! All the lights we took so many pictures but it was when they had to be developed and a lot didn’t come out blah!
Sally how far do you and Helen live from the cabin? And thanks Misty for all the updates on Helen I’m glad she has her happy pump to elevate the pain! I have to take a happy pill everyday thank God for happy pills!I just read about Helen Bless her heart! I hope she recovers soon!
Aaron leave Nana’s shoes alone he has the strings pulled so tight I’ll never be able to wear them again! Oh my gosh now he has my crocs if his mom knew this she would just die! He loves to put on my shoes and get a pocket book and puts it on his arm and goes to the door and wave by, kids do this but his mom can’t stand it! She thinks it will make him less than a boy or something stupid like that. I guess she doesn’t remember playing with cars and trucks in the back yard when she was his age oh and bugs! Now she’s all female so it didn’t affect her any! PS does anyone know anything about a band called “Last November” they emailed her and want her for their new video on Sunday in GA. And naturally she wants us to take her! Road Trip lol that I really don’t want to take even when they turn 20 they still need the parents does it ever end! Never mind I know already the answer the 24 year old still needs us too!
And Bob me and Benadryl are best friends sleep, sleep, sleep, peaceful sleep. I’m allergic to mold and mildew and I have the hardest time with shower curtains dad blame it.
Well by for now y’all have a great night! Lynn & Jerry in Gaffney, SC

  30. Good Morning DIY Blogging Family! :-) It’s 6:28 AM and I am off to the races again today! :-) This DIY Blog Cabin is now on its final turn on the track for this year and before we know it we will be starting up the New Cabin Blog of 2009 off site team. That will be so much fun! :-) again! :-) I wanted to thank all my blogging family for the welcome back thoughts. Carrie, BlognBob, AMuse, Mary from Texas, Linda L, Debbie, Trish212 and all the others. I did enter today, but have not read all the posts. There are so many! :-) I feel Iike I have missed reading a good book. Just reading Linda L (I feel a sisterhood with you) , Mary from Texas (my good friend), BlognBob, Carrie (our basket of Joy!), A Muse (my kingling spirit) gives me a warm feeling inside, and a smile to start the day. The leaves are starting to turn beautiful colors here, orange, and yellows.
Misty or BlognBob, please tell Helen that even though she is going to be held up at the hospital longer and have a walker for a longer time, that she will just have to take that rest time and think of writing new dessert recipes! :-) Tell her my prayers are with her.
BlognBob, I miss you too my friend! :-) God Bless……well, off I go, and tomorrow is of course my favorite day…The Lord’s Day!!!!, going to church to hear the word of God, give Him praise, hymns and worship. Gather with church family for fellowship, eat dinner, and evening service (my favorite) for a wonderful joyous time of more Praise and Worship and of course being in the word of God. There is nothing better than that! :-) I pray that you all have a wonderful Sunday in the Lord. Isn’t God good!…..all the time! :-)

  31. Good morning all, happy weekend,

Trish212, I don’t think I saw anyone else respond to your question about the word “likeness,” so here goes. A “likeness” of someone is a photo or drawing, etc. of someone’s face so that others know what they look like. Not everyone would want the public to recognize them, so DIY has to state in the contest rules that their “likeness” might be used in advertising, etc. Hope that helps you.

It will be a beautiful weekend here in Upstate SC - hope you all can get out and enjoy the pre-Fall weather if its good in your area, too. I bet the leaves are starting to change near our beloved Serenity Shores!

  32. Hi …..

It is about a two and a half miles walk round trip to the Cabin from our house as the road goes around the two bays and up and down the hills. If you look at “Lakefront Estates” map, we live just beyond the boat slips. It takes us about an hour to make the walk if we don’t stop and talk to any one.

THAT’S NORMAL FOR A LOT OF US. MANY PREVIOUS WINNERS THOUGHT THE SAME THING UNTIL THAT PHONE CALL. DON’T BE CAUGHT OFF GUARD. BE PREPARED BY SECURING YOUR WINNINGS WITH MYUNCLESTAN.COM. 34. I’m so excited. I’ve seen (via the website) this cabin being built by these talented and gifted people for days…months. I know whoever wins will truly enjoy a gift so awesome that words can’t describe there joy. Or maybe after having “the win” settled in their heart for a few minutes- that words won’t be enough to describe this gracious gift.
East Tennessee is such a glorious place to vacation to. Been there several times. People are so nice and the mountainous views are amazing. Great churches there too! I know a great God has a great blessing in store for one great person! Can’t wait to see who it is!!!

  35. Hi …..

We went for our morning walk and it turned out to be two hours.

When we got to the Cabin it was “OPEN”. There was a gentleman from “BARNA LOG HOMES” who said that they would have the Cabin Open on Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. - - - so we took a walk through to see what all have been finished. There is still work to be done, but I am sure that it will all be completed in time.

Come for a visit and see what it really looks like. Who knows you just may be the winner!!

  37. Lynn the stairs up to the secondy story are located to the left of the front door. I hope your jerry gets to feeling better soon and that’s exciting that your daughter may be in a video! I hope it’s a nice family trip for you! Sounded like she wants you to go with her! I enjoyed hearing of your grandson wearing your shoes and purses too cute. I had a little boy I used to babysit that loved my daughters beads and bracelets. I thought he was too cute & funny and when his daddy came for pickup. He would say son you look pretty but you’re too manly for those. Leave them here till next time. We always got a big laugh out of him. And Heading south thanks for the compliment. You are definitely one of joyces good eggs in her basket of blessings too! Mary E. I agree so much that someone is gonna have a really big blessing soon with the winner coming soon! I pray it’ll go to the right person who really needs it in one way or another. Mary Tx I’m not sure if I’m scared or not of a ghost since I have never completely seen one yet. I think of things that spook me into thinking of the possibility of them but Yes I think I would be scared a little. Well scared alot!!!!!! I would def. try to pray it away or tell it how to get saved so that maybe it would understand why it’s lost! I see ghosthunters prove they exist by electronics and such and then well there are wicked spirits mentioned & well I’d hope if I met one that it’s just a ghost wondering around and not a mean spirited one if I ever do personally come into contact with them. That gave me the weirdies just thinking about it. AHHHHH!
Sally thanks for always taking the time to keep us up to date on the bc. I just think of it and I know I would get up and walk that far to get a peep at it too!

  38. Sally that is awesome about the tours on Fridays and Saturdays. I hope I can talk Chris into going to see it before the tours are over. Will it be just until the winner takes ownership? That gave me an idea! I wonder if Barna would make a deal with the new winner to help somehow with expenses if they would agree to showing the cabin as part of their Barna homes tours.

Sandy Chamberlain on Sep 20th 2008 at 12:36 pm

  41. Sandy: Go to the 5th entry on this blog. Keight answered one of your questions or go to the Rules and get both questions answered.
Nancy Bee: I am with you. Joan Steffen was definitely a better host for the dream show, but the 2007 winner was such a “mmmmmmm” maybe the host couldn’t adjust to that. I wouldn’t mind if Joan or Amy M. knocked on my door to tell me I won. And definatly I want Candace Olson to design and furnish my new home.
Carrie: you do have a talent for descriptive writing.
Misty, Bob and Cathy: thanks for the updates on Helen.
Sally: Thanks for the updates on the cabin. Wish I could walk through before it goes to the winner.
I’ll be thinking of all of you while I am gone. Leaving Tuesday and gone until the 7th. LLL

  48. Hi. We drove my mom back home today. We stopped at an orchard and bought a couple bags of apples. It appears MANY people had the same idea. There were many craft days in several towns that we passed. It was a beautiful drive.
Can’t tell you how many boats I kept noticing were for sale along the way! I even noticed a red canoe at one little pond. Guess what that made me think of? You get 1 guess. lol ;)
Tingoat, thank you for the response. I kinda had fun with the bobble head idea, too. But knew it was humorous fun.
Can you imagine how many of the BC personalities have to remain incognito nowadays with the chance it can make someone think they are coming to their door. I’ve been chuckling at the thought of that happening to them. LOL
I saw how people have responded to Ahmed at the gardening shops as he offers to come home to help with their landscape. OH MY GOSH! There are other people besides me who did NOT have DIY and didn’t know what they were saying to him. The lady who asked for his (business) card…..I really laughed at that one!
I’m catching up on a lot of missed DIY shows. Wonder if I can convince my hubby I need the tv for just a half hour? Well…better go and try.

    Trish212 on Sep 20th 2008 at 6:10 pm

  49. Awwwwww…..shoot! I forget the time is set for Eastern and NOT central. I missed the show. I’ll have to watch it on the episodes set up on this site.

  50. Thank You Mary , you are just twice as sweet. I messed up twice though . Mis-spelled truth and have the words “or come” twice in the same phrase, when it should be only once. And that was taking my time and trying to be careful. Oh well. Life is too short not to at least not try. Thank You again!

  54. ARE /DOES all the furniture and accessories included / stay for the winner? The value states that it’s not including furniture; but does that mean you get an empty Log Cabin or the value is before furniture is incl?
Can’t imagine “Serenity Shores” without all the internals that make it so wonderfully special for its new owner? Does anyone know if it stays or goes?

Sandy Chamberlain on Sep 20th 2008 at 10:03 pm

  55. Sandy: Most of the furnishing dont come with the house. Here is part of a post from an earlier topic from Grace. Most are kinda glad they the furnishing dont go since that will up the value as well as the taxes the winner will have to pay.

“I am the Blog Cabin show runner and thought I would clear up a few things. Boyles furnishings will not come with the home. They were kind enough to help us prop out the house to make it look even more gorgeous and homey on camera. However, all items built by guest hosts will stay. For example: boat bed, canoe wine rack, pizza oven, mancave bar and barn doors, mudroom storage trunk, waterski chair, canoe swing and porch swing all stay. Also staying: hot tub, pondless water feature, hall tree, porch furniture, picnic table and benches. So, the winner of this cabin not only gets a 2800 square foot lake-front home, but some pretty cool architectural and custom built amenities. Not sure anyone could or should complain about that, huh?”

  56. BlognBob what a beautiful poem. And don’t worry about the spelling. God didn’t make any of us perfect and it shows through in all ways. Misty- Once again thanks for all the updates on Helen. She will continue in my prayers. On another note as I mentioned a few weeks ago my husband fractured his left shoulder but is doing fine. He should start rehab next week, but in the mean time my Mother decided to get tripped up with a dog on her morning walk and fell and broke her left arm at the elbow. She will be undergoing surgery on Monday afternoon. She is 75 years old and can run circles around me but please keep her in your prayers as she goes through surgery. Of course she thinks she will only be at the hospital an hour or two. We’ll see. Prayers continue for all the bloggers, I’m sure everyone has something they need prayer for and this has become such a wonderful family that all must be included. Talk to ya’ll later.

  57. Helen Update - Had a great chat with Helen tonight, at first she was down about having a longer recovery but she got right back to her funny, lovable self.
First she wanted everyone to know about her dear friend Cathy (our newest blogging family member). When it came time to turn off all the machines helping Helen’s son, Brandon, Cathy and her Hubby moved in with Helen, Matt & Katie so they could have 2 weeks to spend every minute holding and loving Brandon before he left to be in Heaven. Cathy cleaned the house, did the laundry, and everything else needed while her Hubby did all the cooking which allowed Helen & Matt this extra special time with Brandon. Helen and her family will always love Cathy and her Hubby for giving up their lives to spend this special 2 weeks with Helen’s family. Thank you Cathy, you really are a very special lady and Helen knew you’d never mention it on the blog so she asked me to tell everyone how special you are.
Sally - Helen said ptttth to you for finishing your deck in under 3 days, she’s jealous but thinks it’s great considering all she went through. I told her you wanted to visit her at home and she can’t wait, she said to let you know she’s really looking forward to it and can’t wait to meet ya.
A.Muse - once again I heard about her beautiful dishcloth with the beautiful orange butterfly. Awhile back Helen was told that butterflies are Angels in your garden and this person also said that her special Angel is orange so your cloth is extra special to her.
Helen is upset that her therapy and recovery will be longer then expected but they are trying to get her a hospital bed to put in the living room so she can watch TV (Blog Cabin of course), see everyone and, most of all, be closer to her computer so she can blog again, she really misses everyone. She can’t believe how sweet all her neighbors are, they got together and are making a schedule so when Matt is away at work someone will be able to stay with Helen so there’s no time she will be alone. She can’t believe the kindness of everyone since she’s only lived there 1 1/2 years, we all need to move there.
Then Helen was talking about another friend with an outdoor pizza oven that had Matt & Katie over for pizza dinner and the funny things that happened, I’ll let her tell ya all about it. Oh yeah, then there’s the story about Katie taking care of their cat (Halloween) and the litter pan at home was so funny we couldn’t stop laughing. Let me say, poor Katie, but what a lesson she learned and I can bet she’ll keep the litter pan spotless from now on.
Helen sends her love to everyone and I told her about all the wonderful posts about her which really helped cheer her up, she thanks everyone. I know she’ll enjoy reading every one of them as soon as she gets back on the computer.
Well, that’s it for this update and, hopefully, she will have a safe unbumpy ride home in the ambulance on Monday.
Prayers to Helen & ALL !!

Misty & Rich on Sep 20th 2008 at 11:26 pm

  58. Elizabeth B sent me an email saying she misses everyone and says ‘hi”. She’s back to work and hasn’t had the time to post but will try to soon.
Heading South - see, I told ya everyone missed ya, so glad you checked in but take it easy, will ya?
BlognBob - another talented blogger, great poem! Give Jerri and the kids a big hug and tell her she better behave and rest from that surgery, I worry about her, she really is a sweetheart. Oh yeah, one more show to go then Rich will send you a new video tape to watch, I know your wearing out the last one, ha, ha.
Mary Texas - great job on the new addition page, it looks terrific on your site, glad to help ya out.
Trish 212 - enjoyed your tales of Mom’s visit, sounds like you had fun and enjoyed the road trip too.
Dinah - we’re still waiting to see how your doing, please let us know. Prayers are with ya.
Sandra Perez - good luck to Hubby with his shoulder rehab and your Mom’s surgery too. I’m sure they’ll both get lots of prayers from this wonderful blogging family.
AHMED - glad your hands doing better, you sure scared the bloggers. Tell Grandma I’m still waiting on a favorite recipe.
WATSON - our dear sweet mystery man - great job on keeping the blogs renewed when they get too long, sure do appreciate it.
Good Luck & Great Health To ALL.

  59. The Blog Cabin is absolutely gorgeous! Great craftsmanship by all! Thank you to everyone involved for making this cabin stand out among the rest!
The themed bedroom with the boat…it’s awesome! What a great idea! What a great place for a child to retreat, to play, and use his/her imagination! I think my two favorite things would be the double sided fireplace and the fire pit. My husband and I enjoy being outside as much as possible. We love to sit around a campfire and relax, talk about our day, or simply do nothing…just stare at the fire…it can be mesmerizing. For all of you outdoormen…you know what I’m talking about.
Tennessee is truly beautiful. It is the perfect setting for this cabin. Tn is an outdoorsman’s paradise. The surrounding area has so much to offer. To the winner of this incredible cabin… enjoy it! Take advantage of the wonderful outdoors!
Thanks again to everyone involved in creating this beautiful cabin! It will definitely be someone’s dream come true!! Who knows? It could be my dream come true.

It has been fun entering every day and hoping that it might be me…….though I know my chances are remote! Can’t help touring the house every day! It’s been a blast! I have taped every episode on DIY and it’s fun to watch! Thanks!

  61. Wonderful home. I’d like to see the tile in back of the stove extended on both sides. Looks too incomplete now. So many doors to the deck, I would have loved to see a large window instead of a door closest to the kitchen (with screens). Also, instead of a snack bar, I would have loved a moveable island so there would have been more room for a table/chairs.

  65. SIGHTS ON THE RIVER ….

Since Thursday we have watched as Sail Boats came North through Watts Bar Dam and headed toward Spring City. There were a total of eleven of them.

It was a beautiful day yesterday, in the 80’s … so we decided, just before dinner, to take the ride on the lake and to see where they had traveling to. What a view, as we came around the bend toward Spring City and saw all eleven of them anchored in a small bay.

There were red, white and blue sail boats, with single and double masts, and from small to very large in size. When we looked closer we realized that all of them had been decorated with small white flags up their masts. As we got even closer we realized that they had all come for a wedding that had been held on the bank of the lake.

This morning as we were having breakfast we realized that they were again on the move. The lake is so smooth, not a ripple in the water and not a sound to be heard from these beautiful boats that are again move South on Watts Bar through the dam. You could hear the horn blow as the closed the locks to lower them onto the next section of the river.

This is part of life on the Tennessee River and Watts Bar …………………..

  66. Helen, Great to hear you are through your surgery and doing O.K. and hope your recovery goes well! I played hooky from church today, watched replay of Tennessee game(w/Gators) and catching up on the blog. Re: comments on sweepstakes ending; I mentioned being in your area end of Oct. without thinking of game over! I may get to visit MY new home while I’m there, but maybe not, chances are like the Florida Lottery; about a chance in 14,000,000!! BUT stil a chance. It would be a great B-Day(Sept 24) @ 61 yrs. What a great place to spend retirement.
Sally — You should have been able to see boats on the River this week going to the game in Knoxville. On CBS yesterday they showed shots of boats leaving after the game headed home! I understand there is a flotilla of boats for most home games?? Should be activity on river?? Hope everybody has a great last week! and the blog keeps on going!

  68. Hi …..

Yes we see all the boats going up to Knoxville for the Footballs games all season …… but Sail Boats are not the norm in this number. This was really something, they are quite and all of a sudden you look out and their they are quietly moving across the water.

It was so nice and peaceful…..

  70. Sally, you sure make it tempting to move to TN. One lucky family will soon be able to call it home.
As we read of how nice the neighbors are there, one almost feels at home without even being there. So glad Helen’s neighbors are being so kind to her. But then, why not? She’s always giving to others.
Cathy, the story Helen shared about your helping them in their time of need shows that you are a true friend indeed. When someone is so willing to go the second and third mile for us when we are hurting, we never forget it. God bless you! We’re so glad to get to know you and be a blog friend with you.
Mary, I liked your new page on your website.
To the entire Blog Cabin crew: Great job! Sure we would all change a few things or colors if we got it. That’s natural! But it is a beautiful cabin! I am already looking forward to helping make decisions on next year’s cabin.
We just got back from church, had a Western Roundup today. Had a great time. After services we had big potluck, pony rides for children and other activities for them, horseshoes and other games for adults. So happy the weather turned out nice.
    Dinah, how are you doing?

  71. Blogging has helped keep my sanity this past week. First, our kitchen faucet was leaking. We replaced it with one of those pull out things. Just as we were going to turn the water back on, my husband noticed that the reverse osmosis filtering system was leaking all over the bottom of the cupboard. He had to fix that. Of course, it was too late to buy a new filter as the stores were already closed. Had to wait one more day. Hurrah, it was fixed and the water was on again and I could start some dishes. Sunday night, I was half way through my shower and it turned ICE cold. Yep, you guessed it. The hot water heater was broken and leaking in the hall. Now I had no hot water to do the dishes and yes, it was 9pm and too late to get a new one. Had to wait 1 more day. Everything is working now and I am getting caught up with chores. I am looking forward to the start of a new week. Everyday, I had to say ” For this is a day the Lord has made. Let us be glad and rejoice in it!!!”

  72. Hello all, yes I’m one of the “background lurkers” these days. Please, any of you in contact with her, send my “Well Wishes” to Helen. She will be so happy to be home tomorrow.

I have had an overly stressed-out week with concerns about my son. :( He is in a rough place in all aspects of his life. Job change, financially strapped with too much debt. This week, his fiancee, (who was homeless and had to move to a half-way house, decided to move on with someone else who could support her) broke off the relationship. He went from broke, but very much in love, to broke and crushed. My son is stubborn and has always learned the hard way. Age doesn’t seem to improve this condition. They were together for over three years off and on. She was like a daughter to me in many ways. My heart breaks for my son and I only hope he learns from the past.

On a brighter note, my husband continues to do very well and his back surgery has given him back his life. :) We have had company and been busy with that too. Nice distraction from our emotional upheaval with our son.

Well, gotta go again. Need to catch the second showing of last weeks shows tonight. Have managed to enter a few times lately. Take care all. Hopefully this week is calmer for us all.

    Cathy P. on Sep 21st 2008 at 4:22 pm

  73. Cathy, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your son. Glad to hear your husband is doing well. We’ll pray it continues.
Jan, WOW what a day (or two). Doesn’t it always seem like when it rains it pours! It’s hard to do without our running water and especially hot water! Glad you have it fixed. Hard on the ole pocketbook though.

  74. Mary in Texas and Misty,
Loved your surprise page. Really cute.
    BlognBob,
Your poem is very special. Typos are easily overlooked. Otherwise we would all be in trouble.
Glad to hear that Helen will finally be able to come home on Monday. Coming by ambulance should be a lot mor comfortable than by car. I know my trip home from the hospital was interesting and that was only about 5 miles.
Well the Steelers are losing to the Eagles and it has been a terrible game for us.
    Prayers for all.

Looking forward to next weeks show, but it will be sad to see this come to an end. As far as everyone who has worked on the Blog Cabin all I have to say is that it has been really neat seeing all of your talents and heart put into this beautiful one of a kind home. I watch all of your shows everyday and look forward to learning more. Husband says he needs a break Im finding too many projects for us to do…lol Thanks Lisa

  76. Cathy P, I will say a prayer for your son that he will find someone to even better complete his life. Jobs come and go. Another will present itself. I am glad your husbands back surgery was a success. It is important to get those done asap and get back on with life. A LOT of walking helps improve things a lot of things. I will send regards to Helen tonight. She might need help printing out the blog for her and responding though. You are indeed a very special soul.

She said they are arranging a space in the living room so she can have access to the TV , the computer, and be able to have a view .And she has folks coming to help her out as well. I know it would make her world if someone from Diy could come over to visit before this all ends. hint hint. My wife Jerri and her had a nice conversation. Girl talk. Helen is so happy to be getting home. Not sure what time tomorrow though. But You have been missed Helen!
Dinah you are also missed. We hope you can give us an update.

Tonight….I had the time right for the show…and then, NO SHOW. It said it was temporarily OFF the air. Wonder how you guys & gals got to see it? Oh well….I’ll wait for the episode clips.

Prayers for the needs I read this evening…and I through in some others such as a beautiful day tomorrow. By the way Jan, I just turned on the main water pipe. We’re having some of those problems, too. We will call tomorrow and NOT on weekends. I’m thankful the problem didn’t occur while we had Mom visiting. The Lord is Good.

  85. The whole house is amazing - but the boat bed was something else. Having porches on either side of the house is a great thought too. What a great job in detail and overall construction.

  86. Dinah, so glad to hear you are back and able to blog again. Take care of yourself! When I face all the restrictions after surgery, I remind myself “This too shall pass!”
Helen, have a good trip home today!

  87. Hi Helen!
You are probably in the process of getting home right now. So glad to hear that you will be settled into your home today to really start your recovery. :-) You are in my thoughts and prayers, as I am sure that everyone in this wonderful blogging family are also praying for you. Your friend Cathy sounds like a real sweetie, like you, and Bob and Misty have been so great with the updates. Before you know it, six months will pass and you will be walking! :-) (Sorry, I meant you will probably running around making your famous brownies) :-) Praise the Lord, for His goodness and Love. :-)

  88. Hi All,
Wow! Everyone remains busy as usual! Can you believe that summer has officially ended? It seems like it should be June 22nd, not September 22nd!
BLOGNBOB:Great poem-very poignant-and how true. Old Glory flies here almost 365 days a year. I know I missed some of the blogs-What is going on with Helen???? What complication has she had?
HELEN: Whatever is going on-keep the faith girl! How is your pain? I hope you get the much deserved TLC when you get home! I’m sure you will. Now will be the time to rejuvenate yourself, heal and get strong.
MARY: The website is great! I really have to get some stuff over to you! Monster toes are so easy and fun! I’m one step closer-I actually wrote down your email address as my Outlook won’t send for some reason!
MISTY: I will find yours as well. I will sneak those recipes and just not tell my kids I gave them to my other family!
SALLY: Thanks for that beautiful description of the wedding flotilla! It does make you want to win the cabin even more! And Serenity Shores being open Fri and Sat? Makes me think-road trip!!
DINAH: Glad to see you are back and doing OK as well.
To EVERYONE: Keep looking forward as we go through our struggles! It is amazing how we all have our trials. What is that saying about being kind to everyone because you never know what pain they are dealing with?
Now I need some IDEAS….I volunteer for a group called Young Hearts For Life, or YH4L. We go into high schools and do EKG screenings for free, to detect the cardiac abnormalities that cause our athletes to die from sudden cardiac arrest on the field. We are having our annual fundraiser next month and we have all been gathering donations from different organizations. Now I know many of you have been involved in fund raising before-you are just that type of people. Does anyone have any ideas for items that do really well at silent auctions or raffles? Like, what is that one item that you thought-OMG!! What a great idea was that!!?? Anything donated that you thought would not be so great, but everyone wanted? Any businesses that you found exceptionally generous? As we are in our last few weeks before the event-Oct 16th, there is not much time left, but as I have not spent as much time as I would have liked on fund raising, I want to give it one more push as I follow up on previous contacts and figured I would pick the brains of my wonderful BC family!
Well, I do have a YH4L meeting today before work so I better get my—self–in gear and officially start my day.
    Have a good one everyone!

Sally those sailboats sound like a glorius sight to behold, what a wonderful wedding party on a sailboat. Jan(Az) sorry about the water problems. But now you got hot water for a while. ;)

  90. Good Morning Everyone!

Carrie, I’m sure the other Lynn will head your warnings. I’m just about as sure her daughter will not, lol. Well maybe she will as she is 20 if I remember correctly.
Sally, The sailboat wedding sounds beautiful indeed. I live about an hour from the nautical mile and it truly is a sight to behold, especially from the water. I’d love to be able to pace the participants running the Mackinac race. For those not around these parts, its a sailboat race. Its actually a privledge to be asked to be a deckhand for this race. I’ll never be asked since I know next to nothing about sailing except that they are beautiful vessels.
I’m so glad to hear that Helen and Dinah are on the mend. May you both be blessed with a speedy and complete recovery. I will keep those that need it in my prayers. Actually I’ll just ask that you all be blessed.
Have a wonderful day today everyone.

  92. Gail: my favorite silent auction item is a gift certificate from a message therapist. That feels so good. Messages run from $60.00 + per hour around here so getting it for less makes it feel even better.

Hope Helen made it home and her husband is reading her all of the blogs. Matt it won’t take long and then you can nap.

I am going through withdrawals and I haven’t left yet. :-) LLL

  94. Hi Watson,
Seeing the full episodes of blog cabin re-runs are like having a second helping of your favorite dessert. It was worth taking a break to feast on This Old House, This New Cabin and Bold Blog Bathrooms. (I love the descriptive names of the episodes.) DIY knows how to treat their guests. Have you decided to have a blog cabin-a-thon after Thursday’s episode?

Lessie on Sep 22nd 2008 at 12:32 pm

  95. Sorry for the length…..

People…“base their worth on their own accomplishments and success - they feel more in control that way “ (an excerpt from Lessons Learned by Tammy Webb Witholt). I know how this feels….AND….I know where my Worthiness comes from now. I truly hope people don’t think you have to be “worthy” to win. I have NOT placed my name on any entries. I HAVE placed my husband’s name. My path….is with my husband. People who have an entry AND people without an entry are worthy of a beautiful home such as this. The talents the craftsman/women have shared with us in DIY are gifts. And…do we do ANYTHING worthy to receive a gift? If you don’t receive THIS home….it does NOT mean you are NOT worthy. It’s just not your gift.
I have two daughters. When they were young I videotaped only ONE Christmas morning. It was a difficult time. Chickenpox was running amok amongst the girls. Talk about cranky! :( Add opening presents and one sister getting what the other one received. AAAAaaaaaaghhhhh! It was the last time videotaping the event. To record the joy AND the obvious disappointment was way too much for this mom. Later I discovered….it was the one time that the youngest actually KNEW the gift was her’s because older sister had claimed all the others for her own. The oldest was willing to share…but the youngest never felt any of the toys were her’s until the video.
To the winner of this beautiful Blog Cabin, congratulations. What an opportunity you have to share with family and friends!:)

  96. We’ve been having trouble GETTING DIY during the Blog Cabin episodes. Our television has Temporarily OFF the Air. Then, I come in here and read how fellow bloggers are seeing it. OK…now, I sound cranky. By the way…I finally took a nap during the show that never appeared. :) Felt much better afterwards. Is anyone else getting these silly messages?

    trish212 on Sep 22nd 2008 at 1:32 pm

  97. Thank you BloginBob for giving my message to Helen. Dinah, glad to hear your surgery went well. A.Muse glad to hear you are doing well with your recovery. I know how those post-op/recovery limits are difficult to heed but remember they are there to give you the best outcome possible. I have been such a nag to my hubby. Yes, BloginBob he is walking a lot! Makes him very happy to be mobile and steady on his feet again.

Also, thanks to all for the words of encouragement and prayers for my son during this distressing time in his life.

Gail, I’m not a fund-raising type but I do love silent auctions. We attend an annual fund raising banquet every year to help the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation protect wildlife habitat. Some of my favorite items in the silent auction have been art work, jewelry, package deals (like hunts and fishing trips for my hubby), combinations of things like home improvement services, gift certificates for gasoline, propane, road paving, ect. Surprise packages are fun to bid on too. There are also games and raffles during the evening. I have been trying to win a very cool wooden basket for 20 years. They are placed in ladies raffle and are filled with all kinds of goodies for the women. The evening ends with a live auction and bingo game. This is our way of having a night out and donating to a good cause. Hope this might give you an idea or two.

Well, gotta check on the latest videos and catch up with shows…

  98. WOW only three days left. I don’t know what I will do with myself. Well, aside from cleaning, cooking, teaching the kids, laundry, car maintenance, yard , house, groceries, pets, etc…LOL. Still, it has been such fun. I truly feel you all here are a part of my life. This has been the most fun for me on this blog. Building !
Friendships and a Big Beautiful Log Home in the progress.
HELEN, we are waiting for your bright and cheery Irish attitude to reflect upon us once again. I trust your trip home was eventful enough. You have been missed.

I wish to Thank Carrie,Gail,Colleen,Heading South,Dinah,Nancy Bee,Misty&Rich and everyone who was so kind to give nice word to me for my poem. I know I will inadverntently miss someone for my poor memory. I praise The Lord for your kindness.
Thank You Watson for cleaning up my poem for me! Watson is such a nice person. I will truly miss you all and him until the next season.
I am not exactly sure when this all will end but I am guessing the 25th. So, I will be posting until then at least.

  99. Misty & Rich ~~ BlognBon ~~~~ Cathy: Thanks for the great updates about Helen. And….Now….Alex and I aren’t sure that what we planned to send is still appropriate and would really welcome your input so that we can make adjustmetns if needed. Thanks. So….Can anyone of you share with us any information about her mobility limitations — Will Helen be permitted to use a walker and/or will she be getting around using a wheelchair or one of those electic scooters any time soon? I know bedrest is indicated now, and she will be restricted in her activities for the next 3 to 4 months since her surgery and hip replacement proved to be more involved than was first anticipated. I am curious if you can tell us just how limited her extra-cirricular activities are going to be for the next bit of time, too. For instance, will someone be coming to her home to do her P/T sessions? Will her diet be restriced in any way? Will she be able to stand or sit long enough for a normal shower or bath? Hope that last one isn’t too personal —- just want to get a clear picture of what she can and cannot do (or should I say Should Not be doing for I am sure she is already trying to figure out ways to do things not specifically on the currently permitted OK-to do list -(WINK) Thanks again for any answers you feel comfortable to share with us all.

Misty & Rich ~ I just love the newest information about the inportance of seeing an Orange Butterfly for Helen. Knowing the towel some how triggered a sweet memory of Brandon for Helen is great to know. Thanks for sharing the story with me.

Carrie ~ Sorry, this is so late. Thanks for letting us all know you will keep us posted if you see or hear anything from Watson concerning a clip of the winner. I did not know how DIY showed the winner being told they won last year …. I agree that those spur of the moment, no warning, just someone ringing a doorbell to tell someone they’ve won, never really seem all that spontaneous. At least DIY posted that it will be about two days after the drawing (october 8th) before the winner is notified by Riteway (oops! not sure about that spelling for the independent company that will be doing the notifying). And, then it could be five more days, and another name picked if the first winner is not responsive. (Thanks Keight for digging out that part of the info from all the stuff written about the contest) …. So, Carrie, knowing you are going to keep us all in the loop during the long waiting period is good news! Sorry it took me this long to post that comment to you and that this post is so long. I’ll be quiet now again for awhile!

My youngest Daughter has taken sailing lessons. ……… Carrie Miracle, Vollyball Forever. Team is looking good. we will be in Indiana all day Sat. Thank you for keeping everyone informed. God Bless Americia. Did you hear about the school somewhere that sent a kid home for wearing a t-shirt that had a flag on it and said United States of Americia .They said it was against the rules. The next day all the students wore American flag type shirts…Smile

  103. Hi….I heard from my family in Texas. Their house was spared. They were without electricity for seven days. They had a generator after being through the other hurricane. I commented on the prayers….my aunt said…there are so many families that need more prayers due to significant damage. Thank you to those who have kept them in prayer.
Blondsails….that is awful to be sent home for that shirt! Yep….quite a :) moment for the next day though.

  105. Hi guys finally got to have my turn back on the computer been a very busy day with yard work and seeing my beautiful niece and nephew and my own all running wild and screaming and playing in the yard. Really special times. Makes the hard times so much sweeter. My hubby got a new job starts it in a few weeks has to finish up the last of his contracts. Thank you guys for the prayers. Trish 212 I’m happy to hear your family was safe thank God for that all the hurricaners are in my prayers. And Cathy P. your family is in my prayers. I pray your son will find true love soon. Dinah I’m so happy you are ok, you take it easy now! Gail my daughters school has a school fundraiser auction and they have it around dinner time and auction off bbq ribs to the hungry crowd and have a cake auction as well. Local companies and stores donate different types of items. Blondsails I can not believe that a school would punish a child for wearing an american flag on their shirt that is sad. Way to go School for showing that American Spirit. I salute you all! Great job standing up for your rights. Hey vb mom yep volleyball rules our girls lives and we follow them everywhere! Our team is looking good too! Working hard to earn their places! My daughter been dragging in barely moving some nights from the running and the overhand spiking drills. Our season hits full force come Oct. starting with the rallies in Chicago! Looking forward to our games coming! It’s always alot of fun! Amuse I think that diy will keep us all guessing so we better get the front room cleaned up don’t you think? JIC…….. :) My can use the cleaning I’m behind just a little in the dusting dept. …..Ummmm I wonder why! ;) But if I don’t clean them I’ll be decked out for Halloween another good reason not to dust the corners. J/K I dread when the blogging slows down I’ll have to pick me up a new habit. :)

  106. I’M BACK!!!!!!!!
I was flabbergasted to see the outpouring of love from all of you! Words cannot express how very loved I feel from all of you.

Cathy– I’m very happy to see you plan on keeping on. Give Lou a big hug for me too.

It took forever to get home today,as we were waitng for the ambulance from 11:30 this morning, and they didn’t pick me up until 5 pm!!! (Please excuse the typos– I am writing this lying down, with the keyboard on my stomach.) The doctor scared the heck out of me today — he told me AGAIN how important it was not to bear any weight at all on that leg for the next 3 months. Like hearing phrases like bone graph, holes in bones, and threats of body casts & permanant disability didn’t already scare me to death the 1st time he told me. So, my honey figured out a way to put the hospital bed in the living room, right between the computer & telephone, with the remotem nearby as well. I’ll email more tomorrow. I’m really tuckered.

  110. Welcome home Helen. Glad to hear your trip home was safe and sound. Sounds like the perfect setup. Computer, telephone and remote all within your fingertips. Now don’t forget the little bell to ring when you might need something. But watch out if you ring to much it may disappear. hehe
Got home from hospital late this evening. My mother’s surgery was today and she did fine. Her left arm is repaired and now we go through the healing time. She’s just glad they let her come home after the surgery. They did not have to place any pins or plates in the arm, she says this is because of all the prayers that went up for her from friends at her church and of course all of you. Dinah glad to hear your surgery went well. But please listen to the doctors and follow restrictions, you don’t need any setbacks.
    Continued prayers for everyone

  112. Helen, I am so glad to read that you are home. And how wonderful that your neighbors locally and here on the blog are caring and praying for you. I wonder if an adjustable bed tray would add to your comfort ( http://www.breakfasttray.com/store/1100c.html ). I use one when sitting is not an option.

Helen and Everyone Else, now that I am no longer ‘lurking,’ please allow me say that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your many homey, informative and supportive posts. Before the final show, if possible, to include a mailbox and a simple Welcome Home Sign. I am sure who ever the lucky winner is will love the added touch.

This would be a great additional piece to show how to make a mailbox and welcome home sign if your guys are not tired already.

I was thinking of a small log cabin as a mailbox with hooks below to hold a sign saying, “Welcome to our Blog Log”

Thanks again for another master piece

  115. Hey all!
I have been in the hospital the last 6 weeks and they don’t get DIY on their tv’s so I have missed everything. Since I don’t have a laptop, I couldn’t get on here either so I’m way behind on the blogs. This has probably been asked before or I just misunderstood but where are the stairs going from the garage to the greatroom? I done the 360 thing and can’t see stairs anywhere.Hope I’m home when they pick my name as the winner, would hate to miss out on that too.

Tish 212…. I am so glad to hear that your family is safe also…. thanks for letting us know..

And glad that everyone is doing well from their hospital stays..

Dave Dalton…. the stairs are in the back corner of the garage area to the left of the dog wash…
and come up in the great room at the door next to the kitchen bar in the great room.. the stairs from the great room level are to the right of the front door (looking out from the inside of the house) and come out on the 3rd (2nd floor) next to the door to one of the upstair bedrooms in the loft. Hope that explains it.. when you go back to look at the photos and the 360 tour.
Hope when we see the winner it is a name we know from the blog….

  118. Welcome home, Helen! :) What a sweet husband to make sure you had all the necessities at your fingertips: computer keyboard and tv remote.

Thank you for the prayers & warm wishes for my family. And I’m still keeping the hurricane victims (homes, schools, businesses) still in prayer. They are still recovering….kinda like you,Helen. ;)

As I have been cleaning around the house…I wondered…how do people with HIGH ceilings like the BC get the cobwebs? I have a special wand that when I wave it things disappear (ooops, wait…that’s fantasy) We use the wand to stretch out to reach the high windows outside. Maybe that’s how it is done? LOL With blessings comes responsibilities. :) Have to scoot and get to one of mine today. Peace.

  121. Hello Fellow Bloggers,
Helen so thankful that you are home and that everything has gone so well. Be sure and do what your doctors say, okay? Your hubby is great to set everything up so you can Blog, watch TV, read and most of all rest and give your body time to heal.
Cathy (I think that is the name) welcome to the Blog and you have to be a very special person to take care of everything when Helen needed you
    for those two weeks.
That tells us what a wonderful person you and your husband are. Once again welcome to the Blog and thank you!
Helen I am still praying for you and I know that you are in God’s healing hands.
I myself have been so busy with doctor appointments, Jeannette, church, family and so forth that I have not blogged lately. I miss my Blog Family when I am not able to blog but I have read the Blogs and kept up, recorded and watched Blog Cabin and of course entered each day.
Mary, sorry I missed your phone call. Hope everything is going okay with you and yours.
Prayers to one and all and of course keep blogging!
Got to go another doctors appointment today!

  122. Good morning to all, but especially Helen,

Hope you slept well and are adjusting to your new “accomodations.” Let me add my two cents worth…follow your doctor’s orders, ESPECIALLY as you feel better. This is when it is so easy to follow your own rules instead. We love you and missed your spunk!

  123. Helen,
I’m glad you’re home again and being so well cared for. Don’t over do it though, let the people around you who love and care for you feel useful and needed.
    Blognbob,
It took me awhile but I finally “get” your poem. Very nicely done!
    Trish,
So glad you heard from your family and that they are safe. I’m sure the hurricane folks are still in everyone’s prayers.
    Dinah & Dave,
Same goes to you what I said to Helen. Give yourself time to heal, let the people that love you take care of you. They need it as much as you do.
    Sandra,
I’m glad your Mom is okay and I’m sure you will take loving care of her.
    Blondsails,
That is so cool you got to do the Mac race so many times. We had some friends that did it every year and I always wished I could join them. My hubby and I used to bass fish alot, catch and release only, he even removed the slimy but beautiful creature off my line for me. Can you tell I was mainly there for the company? Those were some good times.
    Carrie,
Dust and cobwebs are great Halloween deco. Why mess with a good thing until say Thanksgiving, when company comes. Tell your VB Gal I said best of luck on her season.
Does the blog shut down after the winner is announced? I hope not, for a while anyways. Everyone have a beautiful day!

  125. Thanks Lynne I’ll tell Christen BoL from you! Yep I got a good authentic look for Halloween going on. The cobwebbs are nonstop in this old house, especially one in various remodeling phases and some on hold. I think I’ll have to get me one of those long poles that trish212 is talking about. Wait a minute! I think I might have one in the back of the washroom must look for it and get up off my behind!!!! Lol or is it boo hoo! I got about 8 loads of clothes with my name on it. So I must go blogging buddies and add that to my to do list.

  127. Hi …..

We took our morning walk this morning to the Cabin - - - - no one was working ……… guess it will be a while before they finish all their work (landscaping on road side, finish interior trim, retaining wall and etc). The program may be finishing up this week but there is still work to be done.

  128. Lakefront Estates has sold another lot and they will start to build in the spring. Also another dock is going up in the subdivision. They now have two houses that are being built there, so we will have a lot of entertainment for the coming months. Fall is starting in the cooler weather that we are now having. It is in the 80’s during the day, but is in the 60’s early in the morning. You can just smell it in the air.

When we walked yesterday we took another route and came through the grave yard at the front gate. One of the grave stones would make a nice rubbing as it was from the late 1800’s. Is fun to explore the places that are so close to home.

  129. Helen,
So glad to hear you are home and with all of the necessities. Let’s see Dec. 16th should be the 3 month time frame. You can be up and around just in time to get ready for Christmas. Just don’t get discouraged. We will all be praying for you and giving what help we can from a distance. Let me know what you need and I’ll work on it. My 3 months is up tomorrow. It feels like it went fast! One lady I talked to at therapy said she had osteoperosis (spelling?) and her operated on leg was 1 1/2 inces shorter than the other. Listen to that Dr. :)

  130. I was wandering through the 360 view, again, and just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to clean amongst the rafters? Those high ceilings are wonderful, but cobwebs do happen! :)

  133. Hi LYNNE, as you know from my poem, Our United States flag is quite literally our welcome sign at our home. In my poem I wanted to share some my personal feelings as to how sacred our flag actually is for my family and myself. Thank You for taking notice and to all others who have noticed as well.
Our hearts true intent for giving our flag and this poem was for a rememberance. In hopes of uniting us in giving Glory and Thanks to God for the freedoms and countless blessings we have in this Great Country. While personal recognition might seem all well and good for some, the greatest compliment any and all could ever give to me and my family would actually be, giving rememberance and Glory to God for these blessings we have received.
I should also point out that my mis-spelling of “In Gods We Trust” should be in fact, in the singular form “God”. Another typo. Just so no-one might think anything to the contrary. The foibles of age. ahhh!

SALLY, I Thank You so much for your updates on The Cabin and local area. It is so nice to know of these things from first hand.

SANDRA, I am so glad your Mom is past her time in surgery and is recovering. Please send her regards from me and my family.

DAVE, There are also floor plans somewhere in this site that show clearly all except the basement area. It has been so long since I have looked them up though.

  134. BlognBob.. Your poems and stories are getting so good that I am thinking about retiring and passing on my bottle of ink and journal to you, the worthiest of bloggers! Kudos!!!!

Heading South …. OK, our dictionary is a hand-me-down —Second College Edition by Houghton Miffin (not even an ol’reliable Webster’s version) and I need your help …. please tell me if being your “kingling spirirt” (Sept. 20 at 5:36) is a good thing or a VERY GOOD THING …. You are much too sweet to mention anyone with anything but a positive energy. So, please tell me, how did I become your kingling spirit? I am very excited about a new title to add to my name, once I know what it means! (smile)

Mary and Misty ….. YOU TWO!!!!!! Thank you so much for working on creating such a cleverly ’spirited’ page for all of us to enjoy …. Really liked all of the contents and I do hope —if it must disappear as you hinted —-that it will remain merely hidden within a magical link that you will offer every Sept/Oct so new and old visitors alike will be able to enjoy the BOOtiful content for years to come! (Mary — did the author send you a copy of the poem about Cabincraver yet?)

Helen: Welcome Home! Take it from someone who has found themselves facing a longer than anticipated recovery time …. Consider the three months time off for good behavior! And milk it for all it’s worth!(wink) I’m attempting to see the world in a brand new way, through a camera lens. I am also trying again to learn a second language (And, no, not cuss words like Alex suggested would be a total learning curve for me(!) No… I’m working on my long ago desire to speak French — which I must now admit, does offer quite a few ‘colorful phrases’ that to the casual observer sound untterly charming when they roll off the tongue!) So, Helen, put on your thinking cap … have you always wanted to learn how to juggle or play chess? How about knitting! Let us know, if something speaks to your soul …. we will see what we can do about setting you up with the necessary supplies! Oh… and just so you know, what with all your ‘off-site building team’ buddies cheering you on, Going stir crazy is not an option — unless you want us to send you an Easy Bake Oven so you can start making Bedside Brownies for everyone who cames to call! You are much loved, Irish!

  135. I just finished rewatching all the episodes on line and was struck with an idea; wouldn’t it be a nice touch to have the ENTIRE CREW (including cameramen, laborers, etc.) in a photo album for the winner to keep as documentation or a souviner of this whole process? Or even better, a video diary (including outtakes that didn’t make it on air)of the building of this amazing home? Can’t you just picture watching it on the big screen in the mancave. It would be kind of like watching a video documenting the differant stages of your kids growing up. This cabin amost feels like part of us now - like one of our own that each of us helped raise to become what it is today. Now tell me you don’t feel like a proud parent when you look at this cabin. LOL Face it WE HAVE ALL ADOPTED HER! Why else would we keep going back to look at the old pics and videos? I know I don’t have the kind of luck that would allow me to be the winner - BUT IT SURE HAS BEEN FUN DREAMING AND IMAGINING IT CRAWLING WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!AND MEETING ALL OF YOU!!
